Located in the heart of Sugar Mountain, this cabin-like home has been update for your comfort. Featuring current technology in almost every room, you'll be able to feel right at home after a day of adventures on the slopes. You can also cozy up to the wood-burning fireplace or stretch out on the wraparound deck. In any season, this home definitely does its best to grow on you. What's nearby: Sugar Mountain Resort is just steps away from this condo, where you'll find an outdoor skating rink, snow tubing, mountain bike tours and a full golf course. There are plenty of restaurants close by, including The Pedalin’ Pig and Elevations Restaurant. Sightseeing is plentiful in this area as well, such as the Foggy Mountain Gem Mine, Mile High Swinging Bridge and Grandfather State Park. Things to know: Free WiFi Dog friendly for a nightly pet fee. No A/C Full Kitchen (dishwasher) 4WD or AWD is highly recommended in the winter months This property is managed by Vacasa North Carolina LLC If you are bringing a dog on your trip, the pet fee is already included in your quote when selecting ‘Yes’ to pets. If you would like to add more dogs, please contact us. The pet fee is per stay and ranges between $150 and $200, depending on the bedroom count, and will apply for each additional dog. Parking notes: There is free parking available for 3 vehicles. Due to local laws or HOA requirements, guests must be at least 25 years of age to book. Master bed slept great.

The location and house are super cute. We enjoyed our stay but we definitely believe there are things that other families should know regarding the safety and accommodations.
The fence / porch around the house is not to code for safety. The gap is super large which a child or pet could easily fall off and down the steep mountain it sits on (considering it’s pet friendly this surprised us).
The driveway is VERY steep and narrow coming downhill into the house. With the rain and leaves our 4wd still slipped quite a bit which we understand but it could be filled to make this safer. Turning in you can barely see down the hill it’s so steep when trying to enter.
The inside wasn’t clean when we arrived. The floodlights didn’t work, nor would the outdoor fire pit stay on.
No lighter for the firewood, no check out instructions on fridge as the book instructed us to look at. Dishwasher was full of dirty dishes upon arrival.
Cobwebs all over the house, comforter had white crust and stains on the top :/ . Wood chips and leaves all over the floor in living room. We understand it won’t be perfect but we expected with a cleaning fee as pricey as they are that it would be a bit nicer.
We also requested to check out an hour late so my baby could have his first nap and they said no. Interesting because 10 am is an early checkout for most places.

Place is absolutely wonderful. Exactly as pictured in the scenic Sugar Mountain Area. Definitely need a 4wd or an all wheel drive car if there is even a chance of inclimate weather. The driveway can be a little daunting at night when coming up from the left entrance.

Great weekend on Sugar Mountain/Banner Elk.
As a facilities manager - Just some maintenance updates required - new flooring, ceiling showed prior water stains, HVAC updates refrigerator was making "popping" noises, screens were bent; a few needed touches needed to keep fresh.

Had a great long weekend at Portabella. Home was cute and very clean. Kitchen well stocked. Sat in the living room and watched leaves fall . Wrap around windows. Nice big deck to sit on and enjoy a glass of wine. Short drive to Banner Elk. Great location.

Nice place, recently redone. Convenient location and dogs friendly. There is not a lot of space to take your dog out as the house is along a road that was quite busy because of a detour. The house could you use a few extra spoons, forks, etc. it would also be nice to know the days/time the recycling place is open as there is no trash pick up.

Portobello house
House was fine but not enough silverware or glasses. Driveway was impossible to get up from the lowest point without AWD. Should let possible renters know this, not just in winter months, but summer as well. Our cousin had to be towed up to get out without AWD.

We had a great time visiting this cozy cottage in the woods. We enjoyed using the wood fireplace and drinking coffee every morning on the porch. This place had everything you could need!

The bad parts were the little things: two garbage bags and three dishwasher pods won't last a family of 6 for 5 days. No firewood. One comfortable sofa, the rest was small and hard to sit on. Stains on the bedding.

Expected more from our stay....but potential is there!
Upon arrival we had to battle snowy driveway on an already steep driveway. Very icy stairs leading down to a very icy deck leading to a pile of trash to the front door. In these times with the pandemic, the trash piled up outside lead us to believe the placed wasn’t properly cleaned and disinfected. So we spent our first 1.5 hours of a mini vacation cleaning this home. Property management company is not local so getting the trash removed was a very lengthy process and when they came to get the trash, they came to get only half. We gave up because the process wasn’t very easy.
Most furnishing are very worn out and fireplace was full of ash. So we didn’t use the fireplace, at one point we had to stop cleaning the place and try to be on vacation. We were plugging in lights so we could see. Batteries were worn out in half the remotes ( alot of remotes to make each electronic work)
We were expected to carry our trash to a trash/recycling site when we checked out. We checked out on a Wednesday and the trash site was closed on Wednesday! So needless to say the trash came all the home with us. It just seems out of all the fees we were charged, one of them could of covered trash removal?
It could be a very unique place to stay if a few hospitality items could get buttoned up....

The Perfect Getaway
Loved our stay at this cute and spacious cabin. Very easy drives to downtown banner elk, boone and blowing rock. Neighborhood is quiet and easy to access.

Beautiful area with many places in close proximity to visit.
There was no information sheet left giving directions for garbage pickup, and no outside pail . There was no electric on kitchen outlets, took awhile to locate the panel. But we were successful in the end.
Driveway is a challenge. Overall, place was enjoyed!

Bring a 4x4!!
Overall this house was adequate, for my family. We were in town for a wedding and weren't there much. I did do some cooking and the kitchen had everything I needed and they have done a few nice updates to the kitchen and baths. However, there were some issues with this property that definitely need to be addressed. It's time to retire that sofa, It has definitely seen better days. Also, I tried multiple times to reach someone (anyone) with questions and never did get a response. There's no A/C so you have to keep the windows open. It rained most of the time we were there, so there was a constant musty smell in the house. Most importantly, the driveway! Fortunately, everyone in our party had a truck. Had I brought my car, I never would have made it. The driveway is treacherous(and we stayed in June)! As stated, it is circular, however, it is so steep on one side that it is nearly impossible to use so you either have to back into the other side or pull straight in and back into the road to get out. The house sits on a curve so you're taking your life into your own hands, every time you pull in or out... it's terrifying! Overall not a horrible stay but don't think we'll be back.

The property was very neat. We had no problems. I would be concerned with small children or small pets. The back deck is very high. The horizontal rails With large spacing don’t seem like they would be very safe
