Vacation with family
It’s a nice place to stay if you have kids over 5! Owner was very lovely and accommodating but neighbours and people around are retired Americans and Canadians :/ Not very nice people! Shouted at my 2 and 4 year old to be quiet! How rude is to say the least! Round a pool!!!! What do you expect to happen in the communal areas?! Apart from that it was a nice stay beach is a minute walk away and pool is big enough!

Really enjoyed our stay at Maquey F1
We really enjoyed our month long stay at Maquey F1. The unit is nicely decorated and clean. It looks out over the pool and beautiful gardens and is very quiet and peaceful. We don't often like to swim in pools but this one is very clean and there weren't a lot of people hanging around it which was nice. The grounds are so beautifully landscaped and it was just a few steps to the ocean. Inside we had everything we needed for our stay - lots of towels, glasses, dishes and appliances. The king bed was extremely comfortable and we enjoyed a good sleep in it. Because of the lush gardens it's a haven for birds so most mornings at around 5:45am there will be a symphony of nature that lasts until around 7:45am but then promptly ceases. Everyone we met from our neighbours to groundskeepers and security guards (Fransico is the best!) were extremely friendly. If you need water just ask one of the groundskeepers and they will bring it to the room, cost is 50 pesos but we often just gave them 1 dollar US. We enjoyed the company of 2 feral cats who visited every day. The cats are spayed and friendly and help to control vermin and lizards - who are harmless and help control any undesirable insects. The mosquitos were bad during our stay as it rained a lot at night and because of the garden setting. Bring lots of bug spray. You can purchase citronella candles at the grocery store. Not sure if something could be done to help with that - mosquito repelling plants? screening in bedroom? screened porch?
The Perla Marina community is very safe and we had no problem walking down the road at night, often to go to one of our favourite restaurants Ceiba Cafe (great pizza and casual atmosphere) or Crazy Ranch (amazing ribs, brisket, chicken wings and an especially delicious grilled chicken breast sandwich). Ceiba Cafe is within the gates of Perla Marina. To get to Crazy Ranch you need to cross the main road - BE VERY CAREFUL CROSSING and watch for small motorcycles. Sometimes the vehicles will have no lights and they are always passing other vehicles so keep your eyes peeled. Right next to Crazy Ranch is a pretty good mini mart where we often bought our buns, bananas and beer - you can also buy vegetables, wine, pop, chips, cold meat and more there. If you are doing a bigger grocery shopping head out to Sosua to either Super Pola or Playero supermarkets - we slightly preferred Playero but both are very good and you can find just about anything you're used to.

Apartment is in the back of the property, furthest from the ocean so no breeze etc. Repairs going on on the outside of apartment. The condos grounds got spray with toxic pesticide. I left after 3 nights. The owner returned 25% of my cost..not enough.

The condo met all our expectations and was a great location/base to explore the region.
The condo had everything needed for our two week stay. Plenty of choices for restaurants; nearby and within walking distance (pizza, pasta, bbq, vegan and fine dining). Beach is a little rough for swimming but there are nice ones within a short walk, or taxi to Cabarete/Sosua. Condo grounds are well maintained and secure. Condo management are attentive and easy to contact if need be. Thanks Thomas! Cabarete is a short taxi ride away where you'll find your share of restaurants, nightlife and vendors. If kite or wind surfing is your thing, then Cabarete is a good place for you to spend your days. Locals are very friendly, and knowing a little spanish works to your advantage. Great place, we'll be coming back!

Our secret hideaway
This 1 bedroom unit is on the first floor and just a few 100 yards from the water. It is at the end of Perla Marina and a perfect location if you're interested in getting away from the noise. Our host had organized transportation for us at the airport and met us at the supermarket. Amazing hospitality and always available to answer any and every question we had. He was able to guide us on the best places to eat and most affordable options for transportation.
Every morning we spent it with a freshly brewed cup of coffee and breakfast on the balcony overlooking the pool and what felt like our private tropical rainforest. We had air conditioning in the bedroom which made a world of a difference each night. The security guards were posted all over Perla Marina and were very pleasant. For our first trip out to the country, we felt incredibly safe and welcomed by all those residing there.
We spent a lot of time in Cabarete for Kiteboarding and enjoyed being able to get away from the city nightlife at the end of each day. We couldn't have asked for a better place.

-Request a stop at the supermarket upon arrival to Puerto Plata and pay with your card at Playero Supermarket
-Have at least 5,000 pesos ($105 USD) handy in small denominations (25-100 pesos specifically) as most places do not accept credit cards (if they do its often an 18% tax)
-Have at least $20 USD in singles handy. Locals work off of tips and a dollar goes a long way
-Banco Popular ATM withdrawal (cheaper than the exchange)

We encountered several incidents at the beginning of our stay, nothing major, but never the less, quickly attended to by Thomas and his lovely wife. We stayed for two months and felt very much at home. Our unit had a beautiful view of the pool and gardens. Everyone we encountered were gracious and friendly from the pool caretakers to the security guards. We could here the ocean waves from our unit; however, I would prefer to feel the ocean breeze from the balcony. We didn't rent a car, didn't feel a need to. We used the public transportation and never had to wait very long. We rarely went out at night, but when we did we used the taxi service. In the apartment there is a book with helpful suggestions about the area, the business cards of recommended restaurants and cab drivers, tour companies, supermarkets, etc. We hope to return again to the area next year.

This 1BR is a ground floor unit set back a short walk from the ocean. It overlooks the gorgeous pool and seriously beautiful landscaped grounds. The pool area is quiet, and the complex is small. It is an oasis of tropical plants and peacefulness.
The unit itself is nothing fancy, but nice nonetheless. The bathroom is large and modern. The galley kitchen is serviceable. The unit could use a little sprucing up and a few reading lamps would be helpful. That said, the place is clean, and has a sweet little porch for reading. It is definitely A OK, and you can't beat the price. I would recommend it to anyone interested. The complex is lovely, very safe and friendly. Access to the remarkable beach is worth the price. Thomas and his wife are great to work with. They took care of everything.

The property was BEAUTIFUL!!!! You are a 2 minute stroll to the Ocean which
is very secluded. Right down the beach is Natura Cabana that offers
Yoga & Pilate classes daily. You can walk for miles down the secluded beaches
which are breathtaking. You will be very well equipped with all the comforts of home. The owners in the complex are very friendly and informative
on local places to visit. We truly enjoyed every minute, and really relaxed for

Being a nature lover I especially enjoyed the tropical plants and trees surrounding the condo. Lying by the pool every day was like being in a tropical garden with birds singing and butterflies fluttering by. I spent many hours just walking along the sandy beach and watching the majesty of the ocean waves. Most evenings were spent sitting on the patio looking out over the pool and lighted gardens listening to the waves……..so serene. This location offers the best of both worlds, you can be as active as you like or as quiet. I took advantage of both and will definitely be returning to this condo for another vacation soon.

Can't Wait to Return!!!
This was my perfect vacation! The location of the property is only a 20 minute drive from Puerto Plata airport where the pre arranged pickup from Thomas was waiting for us with our name on a sign. We were also able to stop in Sosua for groceries and drinks at the Super Pola grocery store on our way to the condo. This was a great service. Upon arrival at the condo we soon discovered it had everything we would need such as beach towels, extra bedding and all appliances right down to the blender for those amazing frozen rum drinks. The view from the balcony was beautiful as it looks out at the pool and stunning grounds. This was by far my favorite spot to sit and enjoy my morning coffee and have a couple of glasses of wine while enjoying the evening breeze. This property is as peaceful as it is beautiful. I felt very safe in the community. It is gated as well as the complex has its own security guards. I walked around regularly to view all the Caribbean architecture. I spent many days relaxing by the very clean, well maintained and quiet pool. Many afternoons were also spent having fun in the waves of the private beach. The few people we encountered at pool and beach always had a friendly hello and language was not an issue as most spoke English. We took morning walks down the beach to Encuentro beach to watch the early morning surfers. It was one of these mornings we found Chez Arsenios restaurant that I soon discovered has an amazing hamburger on their menu. One of the previous renters had started a notebook full of tidbits of information. They recommended we use Jose Gomez Taxi service and had supplied his number and email to contact. So glad we did. He took us into Caberete in the morning and all we had to do was text/email him when we wanted picked up. We shopped and hung out on the beach during the day then had an amazing dinner at the Italian Restaurant right on the beach. Some key advantages we found to renting this apartment are the washer/dryer inside the unit, wifi internet with no power interruptions and cable television with lots of English channels. We also had plenty of hot water and water pressure for our morning showers. This condo checked all our boxes for the perfect vacation and I'm sure we will be retuning soon.

A Perfect Place to Relax - Highly Reccomended
My wife and I had an extremely relaxing vacation. This condo is about half way between Sosua and Cabarete. We found it close enough to enjoy all the amenities both towns have to offer but far enough away to enjoy quiet of beautifully landscaped gardens surrounding the pool and secluded private beach where you might see a total of 6-8 people throughout a day.
The 2 mini markets within Perla Marina along with the local Colmado within a 15 minute walk were easily accessible for day to day groceries. For the days we did not feel like cooking, the Natura Cabana Restaurant next door was a great place to grab breakfast; as well Chez Arsenio’s offered a fantastic menu and great prices. Both Restaurants were within walking distance right on the beach from the Condo, however utilize a taxi to return you to Maquey if you are at Chez Arsenios past dark as it’s about 15 minutes down the beach. I was pleasantly surprised on how friendly all the locals and expats were when we were out on our walks throughout Perla Marina.
The condo itself is very spacious for a one bedroom. The king size bed was very comfortable and the washer and dryer within the condo are quite convenient. Our favourite spot when not sitting by the pool or lying on the beach was enjoying a glass of wine, sitting in the love seat on the patio and listening to the sounds of the ocean.
We would highly recommend this condo and will definitely return!

Three Months in Paradise!
I was lucky enough to spend three months in this wonderful unit! The condo is tucked into a very secure neighborhood where you will never have to worry about safety and where the sounds of the ocean will lull you to sleep.
The unit is very clean, comfortable and well maintained. It is perfect for a single person or a couple looking for a short vacation or an extended stay. The property manager is very friendly and extremely accommodating. The only time I had trouble with an appliance, there was a repairman at my door several hours later. Power outages were never any trouble, the generators would kick in before the wifi could even flicker. The utilities are good and affordable, The internet is fast and the cable package includes a large selection of movies and shows in English and Spanish. The air conditioning is powerful, though I only found a need to use it on particularly hot nights. The neighborhood is peaceful, quiet and filled with friendly people; but don't worry, an exciting night out can be found in either surrounding town.
This unit is about halfway between Cabarete and Sosua, and less than a 30 minute drive from the international Puerto Plata airport. There is no lack of entertainment in the surrounding areas. Playa Encuentro, the premiere surf destination in the DR is a short stroll down the beach. There is a spa just 100 meters away that has wonderful breakfasts and daily yoga instruction. Cabarete offers an impressive selection of food from fine dining to delivery pizza! If you are looking for a place to watch any sports event, you will have no problem finding an establishment filled with fellow fans. In the other direction, Sosua Beach boasts some of the most scenic coastal views imaginable!
