Acadia National Park: In 1913, President Woodrow Wilson set aside 6000 acres (within what is now Acadia National Park) as Sieur de Monts National Monument. With the acquisition of more land and private support and funding, in 1919 President Wilson signed an act establishing Lafayette National Park. In 1929 the parks name was changed to Acadia. Acadia National Park was established to protect the area's spectacular scenic values, Maine's rock bound coast, its coastal and its offshore islands as characterized by the geologic features, natural history and the native plant and animal life. Forty five miles of rustic carriage roads weave around the mountains and through the valleys of Acadia National Park, the gift of philanthropist John D Rockefeller, Jr., and family. Rockefeller, a skilled horseman, desired to travel on motor free byways via horse and carriage into the heart of Mount Desert Island. His efforts resulted in roads with sweeping vistas and close up views of the landscape. Cadillac Mountain: At 1,530 feet, Cadillac Mountain is not only the tallest mountain in Acadia National Park, but also the tallest mountain along the eastern coast of the United States. Rising high above the town of Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mountain offers magnificent views of the Porcupine Islands and Frenchman Bay. Explore the summit of this granite mountain along a .3-mile trail, which includes wayside exhibits about natural and human history. Portions of this trail are accessible to wheelchair users. Our family enjoyed everyone gathering in the great room. There were beautiful views of the lake and the mountains, and plenty of seating!

The home was nice and accommodated our family well. The pond (really a lake) was beautiful. The value of the home itself was disappointing. Neighbors are close, albeit all very friendly, but you can overhear conversations easily so no privacy. While the home is equipped, you could not find a knife in the house sharp enough to cut anything. The cupboard with the seasonings was overwhelming, should be checked for age of items, etc. Bedding was old and some of the mattress covers were covered in dirt. We found the dirt after two family members broke out with unexplained rashes. We ended up rewashing the bedding. While the trash was empty, the recycling bin was full and there weren't any instructions on recycling rules or laws. Coffee maker was not cleaned from previous occupants. You're expected to strip beds, start laundry including towels and vacuum which is no problem. Vacuum and broom should be replaced as they don't work. Flower baskets are filled with weeds. Rock wall was falling apart and disarray. Luckily, we did not have any children who are walking . In comparison, we just returned from a vacation in Colorado. We paid 1/3 of the price for a five-star quality home. Looking at the prices for 2024 of the Beecher Pond home, the price has come down substantially (more than half) since paying the high price we did for our August vacation. Memories were made but we will not return to this home.

Don't hesitate to rent this property! The house was well equipped and comfortable for all 10 guests. The rainy week did not dampen our time at the house and on day trips to see more of Maine's treasures. The fact that you can stand in the living room, look out the window and see into the lake's crystal clear water is wonderful. Ducks, loons and eagles were in view. Kayaks, canoe and paddle board were appreciated. The hosts have carefully thought of what guests need and are clear in their communication about the rental. Wish we were still there this week!

This cottage was perfect for our family of eight. We have children that range in age from 15-27 years of age. The setup of beds and bedrooms was perfect for our family. Checkin was great and easy. The cottage was quaint and perfect. The family room was large enough that we could all be in one giant room and interact with one another. The kitchen was well appointed. There was great internet, but cell service was hit or miss. This was fine for us because we really needed to unplug. There was a smart TV, but we weren’t smart enough to get it to work…which was fine. We played board games. All bedrooms are located upstairs. There are two bathrooms with a washer and dryer available for your use. Outside, there was a fire pit with wood and four Adirondack chairs. There was a dock available to fish from and to kayak, paddle board or canoe from. All these items were available to us with the cottage. You can purchase a fishing license in the nearest small town about 25 minutes from the cottage. Our family also took day trips to Acadia and Bar Harbor. It is just under an hour of a drive from the cottage door. We didn’t mind the drive. We loved the scenery. Thirteen minutes of the drive was spent exiting the water property’s “neighborhood.” We loved being out and enjoying the silence. We have stayed at many VRBO’s through the years, this was a wonderful experience.

We had a beautiful time at the home in Otis. The weather was perfect and we spent most of our time in the water, in kayaks, on the paddleboard. On the single rainy day we had so many choices for indoor games with kids. We've had many VRBO stays, but this house was 100% stocked with spices, cook ware, and readiness for larger families. It was a perfect visit, and we'll be returning for sure!
