Enjoy this spacious, 550-sq-ft Private Studio Guest House in one of Oakland's nicest and quietest neighborhoods – the Piedmont Pines section of Montclair.
Take in gorgeous SF Bay views, while relaxing on the private deck. Explore outstanding hiking trails just minutes away. And visit Montclair Village, with grocery stores, lovely boutique shops, a fantastic Farmer's Market on Sundays, and great restaurants!
For those who need to work or study, make full use of your separate office space, complete with desk and WiFi!

New queen-size bed with firm mattress.
Full bathroom with tub/shower, heated towel rack, hair dryer, and extra amenities
Fully-stocked kitchenette (sink, mini-fridge, microwave, toaster oven, rice-cooker, electric kettle, coffee maker, blender). Aluminum foil, plastic wrap, plates, silverware, serving dishes, basic cooking needs (olive oil, salt pepper etc.), coffee and tea are all supplied – everything you need to cook simple meals in-house if you prefer.
Dining room table and tablecloths/mats.
Living room area with large couch and an assortment of books and indoor games. Huge selection of videos for DVD.
Closets with ample hanging and storage space. Skylights in the main studio and office.
Private Office.
Pet-free space.

You will probably need a car as we live in the hills of Oakland. Ample parking on the street. There are also plenty of Uber and Lyft drivers in the area.
Major freeways are close. Drive times to major destinations:
- 4 minutes to Rt. 13
- 8 minutes to Rockridge BART
- 10 minutes to downtown Oakland
- 12 minutes to Cal Berkeley
- 20 minutes to San Francisco

We live on the property. Access to the studio/office is via a separate entrance so you have complete privacy.
We are a busy working couple. We will try to greet you if we can but we never disturb you once you are inside, and never enter the studio while you are here (unless requested). Feel free to knock on our back (kitchen) door if you need anything, or hear us and would like to say hello!

Through the gate you will be greeted by a beautiful garden. The studio is at the back of the garden.
As you can see in the photos, there are a few steps up to the studio that are a bit uneven -- "landscaped" style stairs. For our elderly guests, be advised that there is no railing. The pathway is lit at night.
The studio/office entrance is through the office door, on the right of the back building. Enter the studio from the office.
The lock box will provide you a key to the front door. Please remember to leave the key when you depart at the end of your stay.

After a week jammed with activity, and about to return to the East Coast, Catherine and Scott's getaway space was just what my wife and I needed. It is beautifully put together, sensibly arranged, with just enough of everything we wanted. We've not stayed in any other place that not only had every dish, plate, appliance, and utensil we would want, but they also were easy to find and easy to access, making total use of the space without feeling as physically jammed as the week had been actively jammed. It is a large, warm and comfortable place in the Oakland hills. (My wife appreciated that there also was an extra blanket.) The directions and instructions were exceptionally thorough and clear so that we had zero need to ask for explanations. It gave us quiet and privacy (and them as well). Street parking instructions also were very clear, including an option if necessary (it wasn't necessary). We didn't have occasion to use the extra (and large) study space and desk, but were I a writer or had I just the need to create and write in quiet, it would be perfect. Away from "the madding crowd." Suffice it to say, and we've said this of only one other place we rented: when we return to the Bay Area, this will be our first and top choice. Easy also to drive into downtown Oakland, into Berkeley, on to SF, or on the roads for day trips. We highly recommend it.

This was one of the most peaceful, beautiful little places we’ve stated at in the Bay Area. It was immaculate, stocked with everything you could possibly need, and so comfortable. The owner gave very clear instructions well in advance, and there were detailed instructions on how to operate everything in the house. The outdoor area, although we didn’t have time to enjoy it, looked delightful. Next time…
