Absolutely the best affordable hotel in Ulaanbaatar city center! Just a short walk from the university and the parliament. You can go as far as the State Department Store without the need for a taxi. The counter staff might not be up for deep philosophical conversations, but the super friendly manager—who apparently also lives there—does speak English and can help with everything, including payments. It is not the Best Western Tuushin, but many Westerners do choose the Guide instead for a fraction of the nearby luxury prices. Also, the hotel handles post-travel invoices efficiently, and overall, you get the impression that they care! Plus, the airport drivers know the address by heart. We would gladly stay at Guide again. Sain saikhnyg khüsye!
Coffee could be from an express, and breakfast could differ from day to day, but there is a CU grocery store with great coffee machine just at the street's corner

The staff was great on check in and check out. The price was great. The breakfast was great for the price paid for the night. The location is hard to find, but is still very close to Sükhbaatar Square.
The first night I stayed, a Saturday night, I was awakened at 2 AM and stayed awake until 8 AM with a series of people coming in and out of the hotel sounding like they were arguing and banging around in the rooms. I wasn’t sure what was going on and did not feel comfortable. Making a noise inside my room let alone leaving it. Finally at 7 AM, management came up and asked one couple to quiet down. The other two nights I stayed, there were no noises at all (one a Sunday and another Saturday). Pictures from the fourth floor lobby.
