About this cottage rental

Welcome to Rockcliffe House. With 2,400 feet of frontage and 20 acres, we are one of the largest privately owned waterfront properties in Muskoka. You are invited to stay in our Guest Quarters, a private, separate apartment located in the lower level (walkout access) of the main House. There you will find a large full size kitchen and dining area, 2 bedrooms (4 beds), 1 bath and a large living room. The decor is styled with a vintage Muskoka theme. We live in the main part of the house year round. Rockcliffe House boasts 2 rocky points of land (Pine Point and Birch Point), with complementary lilypad bays providing iconic Muskoka landscape of yesteryear. Private trails run throughout the property offering hiking and wildlife viewing opportunities. Deep water swimming is available, with some jumping rocks for the brave, and a small shallow cove for the toddlers. With multiple exposures, you can enjoy both sunrises and sunsets all summer long from multiple viewing areas. A large firepit with comfy chairs and firewood ready to burn await you...

We loved the property inside and out. Well stocked with essentials and games. Very friendly owners. We found it difficult to swim. We are seniors. A small dock and ladder would be amazing. Definitely recommend it for a get away

This was our first trip to Canada (from the US) we were in town for a family wedding and decided to extend our trip. This property is the perfect escape if you are looking for a quiet retreat with magnificent views. Brandy Lake is stunning. We had so much fun kayaking and jumping off the large boulders. The property is magnificent--it is obvious how much love and effort Marina and Joe have put into this place. There are lots of places to sit and enjoy your morning coffee, sun and shade lover options, places for kids to safely run around and explore, and private nooks where mom can enjoy some solitude. Great campfire set-up, well stocked kitchen tools and appliances, loved that coffee/tea and evoo and vinegar were included too. Internet service was strong (I needed to take a video call for work --it was fine!) Port Carling is a great town, good restaurants and shopping and so close! Honestly, the pictures do not do this place justice, it is far better in person. Loved every minute of our stay, thanks again! The Millards

The goods: The property is nice and well kept, there are great places to sit and read, catch some rays, or have a fire at night. The bbq is good. The shoreline is epic to explore, lots of giant rocks and cliffs. The forest is clean and well maintained. There are multiple places to fish right off the shore line, we caught lots of sunfish and small bass on worms and hooks. It's only a few minutes from Port Carling, which is an awesome town; the shops and restaurants are amazing. Brandy Lake is small and calm, there are boats pulling around kids on tubes but nothing crazy like on some other local lakes. The canoe and kayaks are in good condition and fun for the family, with lots of life jacket options. The cottage is nice and tidy, very nicely designed and decorated and comes with lots of great things to do. The kitchen is well laid out, modern appliances, lots of space to store your food and well stocked with cooking utensils. The bedrooms are good. The bathroom is good. The main living area is great, with a large TV, board games, and a dart board. The Needs to Improves: Relatively speaking, it was a little expensive for accommodating 6 people; if it had accommodations for 8 (i.e., 2 families), the rate would be bang on amazing. The cottage was kept pretty cold with no temperature controls; it was very hot outside and you needed to wear long sleeves and pants indoors. The challenge of bringing children is they are messy; the lack of a small washer and drier was inconvenient. Not that anyone wants to do laundry on vacation, but it means you need to overpack which isn't a lovely alternative. You need to bring your own towels as well (face towers, shower towels and beach towels); again since there isn't a laundry option, it adds a lot of packing. You should also bring your own pillows if you are particular; again more packing. The owners have a nice dog which left a couple of presents in the area right as you walk out of the door, that remained for several days. The paths around the cottage are generally maintained, but I do not advise walking around in flipflops as the brush is pretty thick and we had more than a few nicks and scratches as we traversed to the rocks and boats. The wifi wasn't great, it worked ok in the main living area, but barely in the kitchen or bedrooms. Overall, we enjoyed the cottage very much. A few minor inconveniences that would have been easy to overlook if not for the premium price.

Marina and Joe’s property is one of a kind! Such a wonderful place with so many interesting areas for the kids to explore. Our kids will be talking about this place forever… very unique trails on site, with a soccer area, and a handful of entries to have a swim in the lake! It is not your average cottage, it is definitely top of the list! Very clean, air conditioned and Marina and Joe were wonderful at being available for questions! Thank you for making a memorable week for my family, we would love to come back!

Looking to "get away"... Rockcliffe is truly the place to be to escape the day to day and be able to relax. My husband and 3 kids had a hard time to leave and wished our days were extended. Lot's of fun - canoeing, fishing, swimming and bon fires. Thank you Marina and Joe, we sure hope to see you in the near future.
