About this house rental

Located in State of Coahuila, this lovely house for $420 per night is a fantastic choice for your next break. Join us for a relaxed stay in a comfortable private adobe home, with a secure enclosed yard. It is situated on Comanche Mesa near Lajitas, and has expansive views of the Sierra Rica mountains in Mexico, Mesa de Anguila in the National Park just to the south, and Lajitas Mesa to the north. The house is a locally-owned, lived-in family home, not a boutique hotel, and we have all amenities to make it a great base for exploring the Big Bend area. We do not use a management company. Traditional, unpretentious and well-equipped, it has power and water, climate control, wifi, a fully equipped kitchen, gas barbecue, two outdoor porches, and an enclosed yard. We sleep up to 8 in 3 bedrooms with QUEEN beds, plus a double fold-out sofa bed in the living room, and there are two bathrooms. Ask about our discount if you only need 2 bedrooms, to sleep a max of 6 people. The third bedroom can be locked off from the rest of the house. This was my French mother-in-law’s much loved home, hence the mid century furniture, and you will notice some French decor, including her intriguing handmade tapestries. We have stellar views in every direction, and the dark skies of the Big Bend allow spectacular nightly stargazing. The front and back verandahs invite you to hang out, and the enclosed yard means you can let your dog - or child - roam free. Dine inside or out, using our fully equipped homely kitchen and propane BBQ on back porch. We are only a five minute drive to Lajitas Golf Resort on the banks of the Rio Grande, bring your clubs! There is also a convenient river access five minutes away (just west of Lajitas on Hwy 170) if you wish to take yourselves down to the river for a swim or a paddle. For other activities, based in and near Lajitas are two options of horse-riding stables, and a zip-line adventure. Easy access to hiking and biking in the Big Bend Ranch State Park with the BBRSP headquarters, the Barton Warnock Centre just a quarter mile from the house. We are 15 minutes to the restaurants and sights of Terlingua, and only 30 minutes to the west entrance of the Big Bend National Park. Our 5 star reviews from happy guests include: “Perfect for our needs…”, “Everything we needed, very well-supplied…”, “Amazing host…”, “Super comfy and spotlessly clean…”, “Spectacular views…”, “Great location…”, “Utmost coziness…”, “Completely stocked, would give more than 5 stars….”, “Exceptional communication…”

Exceptionally clean. As advertised. Super quiet w amazing access to state and national parks. Lots of space. It was nice there were a few condiments and spices and soaps provided. Would stay here again if we come back to the area. Jane was excellent. There were even treats and toys for our dog. Thank you for having us!

You couldn’t do better than this comfortable home in unbeatable location. We booked here for a book and then were lucky to be able to extend our stay three more days. AC is necessity and this home had it!!! We’d hike early for several hours and hangout at home during the heat of the day. Let me comment about another recent guest’s venomous complaint about the toilet system. First, the toilets worked perfectly if you follow instructions to only have the waste in toilet and put used TP in closed trash container. Second, there is over ample supply of trash bags so you don’t need to keep the used TP in the bathroom if your nose is over-sensitive. Third, that is how one integrates modern life with arid desert environments. I would have happily stayed here if there had only been pit toilets!! This house has the superb feature of having fully walled yard which was perfect for our dogs. That is such a big bonus.

The sunset, sunrise and night sky view from the front yard is magnificent! The house is acceptably appointed and quite functional. The third bedroom off the kitchen, former garage, is spacious, but can be noisy from early risers. The toilet system is miserable. No toilet paper is allowed in the toilet. The toilets don’t flush well and don’t handle solid waste efficiently. The location is superb. It’s close to a beautiful drive and a slot canyon hike in Big Bend State Park. That’s a must see. It’s also very close to the national park entrance for easy access. All in all if you can get past the toilet thing it’s a great place to stay. The host is easy to contact and communicates frequently.

This property's view is very special and beautiful. I love to watch sunrise and sunset from there. I also like how it was decorated. However there were a few things that bother me a lot. It needs a little bit of attention to detail. They are not bad, but I will not give it a five stars. The hangers in the bedrooms don't look good at all. Looks like they are all freebies. The coffee maker was not clean. Tile floor is slippery and some of the tiles are loose. Bed header was cracked.
