Opgepast: farm house met muizen!

De keuken was proper. De bazin van de ranch was vriendelijk, maar ze kwam onaangekondigd langs 's avonds laat. We verschoten ons toen ze aanklopte en binnen wilde om ons te helpen met de verwarming. We wisten niet wie ze was, het kon evengoed iemand met slechte bedoelingen zijn aangezien we geen foto van haar op voorhand hadden gezien. Ze is heel vriendelijk, maar we vonden het niet leuk dat ze onaangekondigd langskwam en dat ze zo lang bleef om te praten (we waren heel moe van de reis). Ze wou de volgende ochtend ook (gratis) vlees in onze frigo leggen en dat is heel lief en vriendelijk, maar ergens vonden we het ook een beetje invasief. We voelden niet dat onze privacy gerespecteerd werd.

We kwamen aan toen het donker was, de plek bleek heel moeilijk te vinden te zijn via Google Maps en het stond niet duidelijk aangegeven. We zijn hierdoor zeker een halfuur verloren. Het licht in de schuur ernaast brandde bij aankomst. Het leek of er iemand op ons domein was en dat voelde erg ongemakkelijk. De verwarming stond niet aan toen we aankwamen en het was er een beetje koud. Er was nergens een handleiding te vinden over de verwarming die overigens heel oud was en veel lawaai maakte. Er was geen tv. Dat vonden wij ook een minpunt omdat er in de buurt werkelijk niets te doen is 's avonds. Je kan wel een boek lezen, maar als je dit verblijf voor langere tijd boekt, zou een tv wel leuk zijn. De locker van de sleutel hangt los, is aan vervanging toe. We vonden een aantal insecten in de badkamer. Het bed was verouderd en de matras zag er vuil uit (opgedroogde plekken e.d.). Het bed en de zetels zaten niet goed, het was allesbehalve comfortabel. We hebben muizenkeutels gevonden in het waskot en we hebben een muis gezien (ik heb hier ook een video en foto's van). We voelden ons zo ongemakkelijk dat we vertrokken zijn en een nieuw hotel in de buurt hebben geboekt. We hebben er dus niet geslapen. We hebben de tussenpartij (Evolve) meteen gecontacteerd maar er kwam geen reactie (het was dan ook al vrij laat, na middernacht). Vandaar dat we vertrokken zijn. We hebben vervolgens ook de huiseigenares gecontacteerd. We kregen als antwoord van de huiseigenares dat dit een "farm house" was en dat we de muizen er dan maar moesten bij nemen. De eigenares had ook de suggestie dat we een volgende keer een muizenval zouden moeten meenemen op reis. Dit heb ik nog nooit overwogen en zal ik ook nooit doen. Ik vind dit advies nogal raar. Ik wil graag een muisvrij en keutelvrii verblijf als ik hiervoor meer dan 100 dollar per nacht betaal.
