DALGOVER HOUSE, NR. PORTHTOWAN Dalgover house is special. This gorgeous three bedroom detached Cornish farmhouse is a real hidden gem privately tucked away and set within three and half acres of its own magical gardens. As you arrive along a farm track it’s hard not to be wowed when greeted by this stunning home overlooking the enormous gardens. It feels like a private oasis surrounded by idyllic Cornish countryside. Having recently been completely refurbished and extended Dalgover House exudes effortless style and traditional charm making for the most wonderful base for either families or smaller parties wanting a complete escape. Although benefitting from its secluded location it’s also in a great spot for easily exploring this stunning area with the golden sands of both Porthtowan and Portreath beaches under ten minutes’ drive away. Built around 1870, most likely as a count house for the local mines, the barn next door is believed to be even older with the site having been inhabited for more than three hundred years. Today the house boasts three bedrooms and two bathrooms with three separate living rooms, a dining room and a kitchen. There’s plenty of space for everyone to spread out and the two wood burners keep it toasty and make it ideal for cosy winter breaks. The spacious kitchen and dining room is a great social space for gathering everyone together to plan the day’s activities. When it’s just too good to be inside light the barbeque and enjoy an alfresco summer evening in the beautiful gardens. Offering home from home comfort, peace and privacy within a beautiful three-acre mature garden if you can drag yourself away it is perfectly located to further explore the local area. The north coast is a short drive away with a choice of local beaches, great for surfing and coastal walks with dog friendly options. The town of St Agnes is nearby to the east and Hayle to the west. Within half an hour you can be in St Ives, Marazion and Porthleven and then retreat back to the calm of Dalgover House after the day's adventures. LOCATION Located on a quiet rural lane the house is under a ten-minute drive from Porthtowan beach and is perfectly located to reach Godrevy, St Agnes and further along the coast to St Ives, Marazion and beyond to the stunning Penwith peninsula. Sennen and Porthcurno are a 40-minute drive away to the west. Set in a peaceful location it is within easy reach back to the A30 to access the north and south coasts and to the far west of Cornwall. Tehidy Country Park is nearby; the largest area of dog friendly woodland in Cornwall with over 9 miles of woodland paths and waterways, there is also the chance to feed friendly squirrels and birds here. The local area is steeped is mining history with the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site of Heartlands on your doorstep with a museum, gardens and cafe. The nearest good pub is The Unicorn in Porthtowan a short drive away. Further afield St Agnes has a host of good eateries, cafes and pubs as does the cathedral city of Truro. LIVING Comfortable and stylish the three living rooms provide everyone with their own space or to get together to watch a good film. There are two sitting rooms to the front of the house with views of the much-loved garden, both have a wood burner to keep them cosy and the third is a TV room with two large sofas and French doors to the outside. There’s no shortage of places to enjoy an afternoon read, a game or two or simply gaze out at some lovely garden vistas. COOKING & EATING The kitchen at Dalgover House is fabulous, light and equipped with everything you need to cook up a feast. Opening up to the dining room, it's a great space with a large American style fridge/freezer and a Range cooker with six-ring gas hob, ensuring you can welcome the whole family to dinner. The dining table seats eight comfortably and the open nature of the kitchen and light filled dining room allows conversations to flow all evening long. There are the essentials of a dishwasher and microwave plus a Nespresso machine for those all-important starts to the day. The large dining table brings everyone together and the open plan design with the kitchen provides a social place to gather. SLEEPING Each of the three bedrooms have its own character all offering excellent mattresses and crisp white linen for a great night’s sleep. Bedroom 1: The sash window facing the garden fills the room with light. There is a king-sized bed, bedside tables with lamps, decorative fireplace and wardrobe. Local artwork adorns the walls. Bedroom 2: Similar to bedroom 1 the sash window overlooks the garden and fills the room with natural light. Gaze out from the comfort of the king-sized bed with your morning cup of tea. There are also bedside tables with lamps and a wardrobe. Bedroom 3: This twin bedroom with two single beds has extra trundle beds which can be made up for extra little ones on request. The Velux window and the casement window lets in lovely natural light and the two chests of drawers offer plenty of space to store your clothes. BATHING There’s two bathrooms at Dalgover House. The large, light-filled family bathroom on the first floor has a fantastic cast iron bath, perfect for soaking in after a day on the coast while looking out to the orchard. Along with a great walk-in rain shower, basin, WC and heated towel rail. On the ground floor is a shower room with shower, WC, sink and towel rail. OUTSIDE There are three and a half acres to explore here! The garden has colourful borders with cottage garden favourites in spring and summer and mature trees provide shade for long summer days outside. There are two sets of wooden outdoor furniture for dining alfresco. Listen to the birdsong and enjoy the views, you may even spot a shy deer passing through the gardens below. The gardens have been lovingly looked after by the same local gardener, Kenny, for over twenty years and he attends to it every Friday. Children can enjoy the trampoline and a climbing frame to burn off some holiday energy. UTILITY ROOM A utility room off the dining area to the rear of the house has everything you need: washing machine, tumble dryer and iron with ironing board. USEFUL TO KNOW... PARKING: There is parking outside ample for up to 3 cars. WI-FI: Fast fibre broadband means you can stay connected. There is also phone reception and 4G at the house depending on your network. PETS: West Cornwall is doggie heaven! There’s plenty of beaches and coast paths for exploring. Two well-behaved dogs are welcome at £35 each per week/short break. Please make sure they stay out of bedrooms and off the furniture and that you rub down muddy/sandy feet before they come in. HEATING: Gas central heating throughout will keep you toasty through the cooler months. The wood burners in the two front sitting rooms will also help keep you cosy. LINEN & TOWELS: You'll have bedding & towels but please bring your own beach towels. GARDENS: Every Friday the gardens are lovingly looked after by the local gardener, Kenny, who has been doing them for over twenty years and helps keep them as stunning as they are. He won't start early and if you're in on a Friday you may see him mowing the lawns. He is very respectful of guest's privacy but equally is a font of local knowledge if you stop him for a chat. CHANGEOVER & SHORT BREAKS: Changeover is usually Saturday. Do check with us if your dates don’t quite fit as we will always try to help.
