Island House Above Trees! 360° Oceanview, 4BR, Car-Accessible, Near Lunenburg
About this house rental
Situated in New Brunswick, this charming house for $190 per night is a fantastic option for your next break. Experience Nova Scotia island-living at its finest at SkyView on LaHave Island, a 25-year old home perched on the highest point of LaHave Island, above the treetops. Now with high-speed Internet! Please view our house tour video, which is posted with our pictures. Or search "SkyView on LaHave Island" on the web. A Unique Experience Our house is built high like a castle on a hill -- you drive your car up to the second floor door with a bridge to the house. As you enter, you encounter a 2-story atrium with large-window views of the ocean (there are 28 windows and skylights in the atrium alone!) Nearly every window in the house reveals a spectacular vista. Guests have a 360-degree view of the mostly uninhabited, wooded LaHave Islands, and of a picturesque cove, sprawling bay, and vast Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy amazing views from three new decks with glass-panels. The LaHave Islands: An Exceptional Destination From the minute you approach Crescent Beach, a popular 1.2-mile long beach which leads from the mainland out to the LaHave Islands, you know you’ve come to a special place. After driving down the wide beach (or taking the road behind it), you follow a winding road and cross two bridges. You encounter postcard views along every turn -- colorful houses, old fishing wharves, and fishing and pleasure boats passing by. At the end of the road, you’ll find SkyView on LaHave Island. Conveniently Situated Accessible by car without the need of a ferry, we’re a 3-minute walk from the water. We’re a 7minute drive from the mainland and the Lighthouse Route, which runs the mainland between Halifax and Yarmouth. It’s 30-minutes to Bridgewater, which is the area’s main shopping area, and 40 minutes from the historic seaport of Lunenburg and seaside town of Mahone Bay. We’re an hour-and a half southwest of Halifax and the airport (YHZ). Our property offers beauty and privacy, yet is located in a vibrant island community, on the most populated of the two dozen islands which make up the LaHave Islands. We’re also in an area of the South Shore which has much to offer tourists. Outside Enjoy the views from 3 decks -- a wraparound deck accessible off the great room, a smaller deck off the den, and a balcony off both the master bedroom and study. Relax listening to the seagulls, watching fishing boats in the bay, sunrises in the morning, sunsets at night, a full moon and stars across the sky, and view deer and small fox which roam the property. Inside Come home from a day at the beach to warm yourself in front of an airtight soapstone wood-burning stove in the great room. Our home can comfortably sleep 6 adults in 3 bedrooms (all with skylights), and in a den with a pullout couch-bed. Our guest limit is six people. If you desire to have additional people visit you at any point, you must contact us and see if this is possible. We provide bedding and bath towels, and a washer/dryer. Guests provide their own beach towels. The house also has baseboard electric heating with thermostats in each room. The master bedroom is huge with a king bed, 6 skylights, and a 50-inch flat screen TV with local channels. It has an extra space with a lounge chair, desk, and can also fit a baby crib. The master has direct access to the bathroom. The kitchen is large and equipped with a new refrigerator, stove and dishwasher. It has a microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, food processor, quality kitchenware and a small breakfast table. The dining room has a large mahogany table with antique chairs. The first floor den is a second seating area which supplements the atrium. It has a pullout couch which sleeps two people. The den has a 36-inch smart HDTV with many apps such as Netflix, Apple TV, Prime Video, Hulu, YouTube TV, Disney, Peacock. The TV has an HDMI cable that can be hooked up to a computer. It also has a DVD player and stereo. The den is adjacent to the first floor bathroom and there is a deck off of the den. You can enjoy playing ping-pong on a full-size table in the basement. We have high-speed wireless Internet (25 mbps download & 5 mbps upload) and the cell service is good. We do not allow smoking of any kind inside our home. What to Do Locally, there are many attractions. Half a dozen beaches are within a 10-minute drive, including Risser's Beach Provincial Park, with a fine-sand beach with lifeguards, winding boardwalk along a back marsh, visitor’s center, a snack bar and shower facility. On our island are many quaint paths and roads to walk or bike, a marine museum, community hall, government wharf, boat launch, a church, and a cemetery. On nearby Crescent Beach, people love to park their cars on the beach, walk their dogs, surf, kite-board, stroll the beach at sunrise and sunset, and of course, swim! Several fishermen and their families still live on the islands. Some will take visitors out fishing or on island tours (ask us). Locals also love to share their community's history through casual encounters along the road and at events like the weekly morning coffee hour, serving the best home-made scones and sticky buns you’ve ever tasted – really. The community hall also hosts guest lectures and other events. Along the Lighthouse Route on the mainland are lots of craft and antique shops, artist studios, restaurants, museums, and historical sites (such as the Fort Point Museum in LaHave, where the French first landed in Canada in 1604). You can take in musical events, county fairs, farmers’ markets, art shows, ox pulls, movies, theater and more. For sporting activities, you can rent kayaks and paddle boards, golf at several courses, go horseback riding, rock climb, wind surf, para-sail, and enjoy the resort at White Point Beach, where you can get a day pass to use the pools, yard games, and boats. Don't miss the most famous bakery in Nova Scotia, the LaHave Bakery (15 minutes away), where you can sit down in its quaint dining area and enjoy an amazing breakfast or lunch. Another guest favorite is 'The Ovens,' which is a series of ocean caves accessible by wooded walkways, where the waves pound in and out. At Ross Farm, children will love to see a “working” farm where they still raise animals and grow crops. And bake sales and lobster suppers in community halls all over the area are delicious! A Quality Rental Experience We've been renting our two homes for 25 years to people from places as far away as Germany and Hong Kong. We strive to make our guests' stays completely enjoyable. After you reserve, we will mail you driving instructions, information about the house, and things to do in the area. The house will be thoroughly cleaned before your arrival and if something should occur during your stay, we have a handyman on standby and a variety of service specialists who should be able to fix any problems quickly. We also provide excellent communication by phone and email prior to and during your stay. Our Rates Our rental rates are priced similarly to other higher-end Nova Scotia oceanfront homes. The cost and the minimum nights we require vary depending on the time of year and the duration of your stay. For week-long rentals, we rent from Saturday to Saturday but may be able to make an exception based on demand. The rent we charge is in US dollars, includes all taxes, and will be converted by the website to CDN$ for Canadian guests. We do not charge a cleaning fee. If staying for two weeks or more, the rate is $100 US less for each additional week. Pets are welcome for a non-refundable $100 US fee. Availability If SkyView is booked during the week you are travelling, please note that we also own 'THE FENNEL OLD HOUSE,' a renovated 100-year old home next door. It sits on a picturesque cove overlooking a wide bay, 50. feet from the water. The property has gorgeous views from many vantage points, including from four decks, a gazebo, and dock. It sleeps up to seven people. Please see our VRBO listing #309521 or HomeAway listing #393316. Contact Us We hope you have the chance to experience our little piece of heaven. We must take reservations through the website, but please reach me at 617-909-7279 to discuss any questions. I can call you back to save you any charges.

The 360 degree views are worth the price of admission. We stayed in July ‘22 with the full extended family. The property came as advertised. The owner was attentive and responsive and provides a thorough welcome package.

This unique house is situated on the highest point on historic LaHave Island, just off the south coast of Nova Scotia. It is spacious, well appointed and has marvelous views over the treetops, of the waterways surrounding the island. We stayed there at the end of June, and the morning mists, which usually burned off, created a magical atmosphere. A 5 minute drive took us to fabulous Crescent Beach, a broad white sand beach stretching for 3 miles, which rivals anything on the Eastern seaboard of the U.S.
Our host Mont was very pleasant to deal with, and provided an extensive useful information package about the house and the area, which helped us to settle in. He was very responsive to our needs. There was no problem with our Border Collie staying with us.
Altogether we'd highly recommend Skyview for a vacation retreat in this scenic and unspoiled corner of Nova Scotia.

The property is lovely - water views out of every window. The layout is perfect for a group with open concept, a cozy woodstove and two story windows overlooking the ocean. Great location to walk to Crescent beach and spend some time in LaHave at the artisan shops. We highly recommend the home.

Our family of 5 (2 adults, 2 teens, 1 child) had a fantastic stay at Skyview House. The house is spacious and well appointed for a family getaway. I highly recommend the house and the location. Mont, the owner, was a great resource for local information. The house comes with a very useful booklet of information that eliminates any questions one may have. We swam at Crescent Beach, hiked at Hirtle’s beach and Gaff point, sea kayaked around the islands, surfed at Lawrencetown, and had a great dinner at the Osprey’s Nest. The Ploughman and the LaHave bakery are great spots for lunch. Any groceries are easily accessible in Bridgewater or the Petite Rivière General Store. Great family time for a short visit to the East Coast. Thanks, Mont! We hope to be back!

We enjoyed this beautiful house full of skylights perched on the highest point of Bell island with spectacular views in every direction. The owner was a pleasure to deal with and accompanying documents that he provided on the house facilities and nearby attractions were very informative. We enjoyed cycling to nearby Crescent beach, the local island church and museum and we walked the trail at Rissers Beach. The property is a short drive to the LaHave bakery and nearby galleries. We also parked our vehicle and took our bikes across the LaHave ferry to Riverport and Kingsburg where we enjoyed Hirtles beach and the Gaff Point Trail. We also enjoyed our visit to the Maritime Painted Saltbox Gallery and Mariner Crafts in Petite Rivière. I would definitely recommend this location for the artist and outdoor enthusiast because there is so much to do and see! Next time we would definitely go sea kayaking as it is the perfect way to explore the islands. We would highly recommend this house and its location for those that want to experience all that this picturesque area of Nova Scotia has to offer.

Such a beautiful and peaceful spot. Loved sunset walks on Crescent Beach and then coming back to cook dinner with a fire in the wood stove. Appreciated the well-stocked spice supply. Watching the sunrise from the master bedroom was a perfect start to the day. The house feels far removed, but it is still an easy drive to Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, and Kejimkujik Park. Weekend brunch at LaHave bakery was lovely.

The Skyview house was a large and well cared for home on an island hill that overlooked the area with its views above the tree tops. All amenities advertised were there and we found the house to be very well stocked making it much easier to cook without trips to a store for needed basics (not an easy task due to the location of the house on the island) Enjoyed our time there and appreciate the effort the family has made to make a stay comfortable for all.

Skyview on La Have Island is a beautiful, comfortable, well-appointed home with extraordinary views of the water and forest. The beds are very comfortable, the bathrooms are spacious, the kitchen has everything you need to make a great meal including a spotless full-size fridge and dishwasher, as well as plenty of dishes, tableware, glasses, bowls, and small appliances. The great room is perfect for enjoying the natural surroundings and the furniture is comfortable and cozy.
Skyview is an easy ride to Crescent Beach, a sandy spot to enjoy waves and a great spot to put in your kayak. The La Have Bakery is a 20 minute drive and should not be missed - delicious breakfasts, lunches, and baked goods with indoor and outdoor seating. We headed into Lunenberg (a 50 minute drive) twice to enjoy the freshest seafood dinners along with the shops and waterfront. We are looking forward to a return trip to Skyview!

This property was well above our expectations. The term Skyview is appropriate since there was not a bad view in the house. Everything was extremely clean and well-appointed. Everything was clearly labeled for our use. This stay was relaxing, there was an ice storm while there that really set the view apart from the rest of the days we stayed. I would 100% recommend this property to anyone considering a getaway with all the modern luxuries. Our host could not have been more attentive and quick to respond to our questions. It is very clear from the stay the host cares deeply about the property, the presentation, and most importantly the experience of his guests. The location was remote, serene, yet accessible. Very quiet and dark at night with no light pollution. There were a few amenities a short drive away if need be. However, you could also feel like the last person on Earth which is exactly what we were looking for.

Super value priced location on the beautiful south shore of Nova Scotia! Very bright with tremendous views of the islands and water. Fully equipped with a large assortment of kitchen and dining supplies. Detailed instructions provided on the use of everything in the home. Uniquely private area, perfect for strolling around. A short drive from Crescent Beach, one of the best in Nova Scotia! Certainly recommending to our family and friends.

We stayed at Skyview for a fall weekend and found it to be a great place from which we could head out to local sights and attractions (Crescent Beach, La Have Bakery, Petite Rivière Winery and lots more!) We always looked forward to coming back to the large and spacious home with everything we needed.

This place is beautiful - quiet, remote, spacious, well appointed and an absolutely stunning view. Our Nova Scotia experience was focused on the Lunenberg area and it included beautiful walks, good food and lovely people. For folks coming to this place, a couple thoughts. Mont's suggestions about things to do and places to eat are spot on - so helpful. Take time to enjoy the lovely home as well.

Loved staying here! The open space of the kitchen and main sitting area with a wood fireplace in the middle is a real treat. Stunning panoramic view of the river, woodlands and ocean in the distance. We were looking to get away from it all and this was the perfect place to be!

Lovely secluded spacious house with amazing views, great for us being a party of 8.Beautiful location and a ferry ride away to Lunenburg. Had a great weekend stay and being pet friendly could even bring my dog who really appreciated Rissers Beach about 10 minutes down the road!
Would consider staying here again with a large group.

We loved our stay! All of our guests were blown away by the beauty and view. The house is spotless and has any utensil you may need to feel like you are in your own home. Each room is unique, warm and filled with coastal charm. I will definitely be returning the next time I have guests visiting so I can show off the beauty of the south shore. The owner was very helpful and replied quickly via email if I had any questions.

My wife and I, along with my brother and his wife rented the SkyView home on Lahave Island in Nova Scotia for the week of September 17, 2016. As illustrated in the owner's video presentation, SkyView is beautiful inside and out and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Because of the elevated site and oversized windows and skylights, there is a beautiful view virtually from every room in the house. Walk-out decks are available from the livingroom/kitchen area as well as bedrooms on the second floor. I was able to photograph early morning visitors from the surrounding forest on our first morning (two adult female deer and a fawn) from the deck on the first floor. Not to mention a glorious sunrise.
The chairs in the spacious living room area are all comfortable. I was able to fall asleep in my chair just as I do at home.
SkyView is furnished with every conceivable food preparation utensil that may be needed. We prepared all of our eat-in breakfast, lunch and dinner meals with the furnished utensils, which include multiple place-settings of dishes, glasses, including wine glasses and flatware.
We took several walks during our stay. We walked down to other homes on the water's edge, including another home owned by the owner of SkyView. We also explored a vintage cemetery with some interesting headstones and an unused church overlooking a small cove with lobster boats. Photo-ops abound in the immediate area of SkyView, as well as several vistas on the drive into the property.
We also explored other sites in the surrounding area that included a scenic board walk to a beach that we also walked. On another day, we visited a local winery and of course, sampled their wares. The winery has a comfortable out-door seating area where we sat and enjoyed a glass of their wine. We also made day-trips to the towns of Mahone Bay and Lunenburg. Mahone Bay is noted for it's three beautiful churches situated all in a row overlooking the bay. Lunenburg is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is also the home port of the famous Nova Scotia fishing schooner, Bluenose ll. A reasonably priced ferry located close to the bakery on Route 331, cuts off an otherwise longer drive to Lunenburg. Both towns have well stocked shopping areas and restaurants.
All in all, if you seek peace and quiet and a jumping-off place to visit other interesting and scenic areas of Nova Scotia, I highly recommend that you consider SkyView.
