A very new, smart hotel about 1.2 km north of the Main Bazaar. The rooms are clean, functional, the water is hot. All good. If you want an easy, no-surprises place to park yourself for a night or two then go for it. The hotel is aiming at the 4 Star market. The staff were excellent.
The location is not ideal - 15 mins walk from the centre.

Very cozy cabins and tastefully decorated! The entire ambiance is the property is beautiful, located in a calm area, very peaceful. The cabin is generous and clean, they even put in an additional heater as the nights tend to get quite chilly.
The reception staff was very friendly and helpful and the restaurant offers all day dining options.
Restaurant: there was one lady who was very capable and friendly, however other servers had an annoyed/bored energy about them. One evening they even called us at 10PM if we’re having dinner when we actually just came back from a Dinner outing at a different place (for which the hotel had called us a taxi for) - not sure why they would call us that late in the evening about this matter.
Restaurant: while the buffet and a la carte options are generous, there are no local (Ladakhi) foods unfortunately (mokmoks, butter tea for breakfast etc.) - so if you’re looking for local foods, Essence is not ideal. When ordering a la carte breakfast, it took around 20 minutes for them to serve us in the morning, even the basic masala tea was served after we had finished our breakfast.
Shower: there was one evening when we did not have hot water in our shower/sink.

Cards wasn’t ready, however that should be basic given the hotel caters to international guests.
Overall our view on the restaurant might be biased as we came to Leh during a lockdown/curfew time due to some local political unrest. This way our options to eat somewhere else were very limited.

I stayed at Essence at Ladakh in Leh while traveling alone and felt very comfortable throughout my stay.
The rooms are nicely furnished and offer a good amount of space.
I visited during the absolute pre-season, when Leh was still quite deserted. This made the experience feel very special in a way, though of course, some infrastructure was still missing.
It’s also worth noting that the room could get quite cold at times, which was mainly due to the time of year.
All in all, a very recommendable place to stay.
