I liked that by booking two rooms we got a whole houseboat to ourselves, which included two attached bathrooms, a dining room and an entrance hallway. From the inside the houseboat was massive and elegantly decorated, felt like part of a castle. There was no apparent smell that one might expect living in the middle of a lake. The staff were friendly. The location in terms of view is also good, on a good day you can see the Hari Parbat, Shankaracharya Temple and snow-clad mountains at the same time. One of the staff himself is a Shikarawala so the Dal Lake Shikara experience start right at the door-step of our houseboat.
Bathrooms did not have exhaust fans. Since it's a houseboat, getting in or out to explore the city is a hassle. Fetching food gets difficult and time consuming even for the staff. Loaction in terms of access is not so good, it takes time to get a Shikara out which will slowly take us to one of the ghats farther away from citycenter and the Ghats road is always experiencing traffic jams, so getting a rickshaw is not very usefull too. The Shikara though comfortable and sturdy, it was very simple and mundane unlike others you might witness in the lake which can be very artisanal and ornate.

My stay at lala rukh group of houseboat was truly unforgettable. The moment I stepped on board, I was welcomed with warm hospitality and a calm, soothing atmosphere that instantly made me feel at home. The interiors were beautifully decorated in traditional Kashmiri style, with intricate woodwork and cozy furnishings that added a touch of charm to the experience.
The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, offering stunning views of the Dal Lake right from the window. Waking up to the gentle sound of water and the sight of shikaras drifting by was absolutely magical. The food served on the houseboat was delicious—fresh, home-cooked, and full of authentic Kashmiri flavors.
What stood out the most was the exceptional service. The hosts were friendly, attentive, and always ready to help, whether it was arranging shikara rides, planning day trips, or sharing local insights. Their warmth made the stay even more special

I initially booked only one night but ended up extending my stay to five days. The houseboat is truly comfortable and homey. You get a living room and a bedroom with a private bathroom, complete with a bathtub and hot showers. Everything you need is provided.
The staff were superb and took excellent care of me. I was treated like a king. They always made sure my room was warm enough, adjusted the meal menu to suit my preferences, and were ready to help with any request during my stay. As a solo traveler, I felt very safe on the houseboat.
The management also offers trip packages if you want to explore the Kashmir area. Just tell them what you are looking for, and they will arrange an itinerary that fits you best. While it is not the cheapest option, it is definitely not expensive. It is absolutely worth the price, especially for a budget traveler like me. I personally took the trip package covering Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, and Sonamarg. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to explore Kashmir in a safe way, as there are many scammers in the area.
