Carmelo's apartment is roomy and light-filled and has an absolutely wonderful outlook down a hillside to the sea. Sicily and Stromboli are visible. It's just over 15 minutes to Tropea, but there are a number of beach-side villages with very good amenities nearby.

When we arrived to pick uo the key at his hotel, Carmelo greeted us heartwarmingly. Communication in English and Italian was perfect. Already before the holiday he would answer requests partly in less than 20 minutes, this was very very helpful throughout our stay. After getting treated to our first Italian Café, Carmelo showed us around his hotel garden and picked fresh fruit and lemons from the garden for us. Then he took us down to the house, which was a 5 minute car ride downhill. The house has two appartments. Both have a balcony , from which the view is just stunning. We stayed in the ground level. As the house is located of the hill inside a bay, the mediterranean unfolds it's full beauty in front of your eyes. The balconies are very spacy (approx. 8m x 2m) and thus offer enough space to have tables and chairs out to play games, chill or have meals there. It was more than once that we watched the sunset whilst having dinner. The garden is huge but not usable as a space for activity as it has a beautiful wild flora and it is on the hillside. The upstairs appartment was also booked during our stay there. On holiday privacy and calmness is very important to us. Fortunately, there was no necessary interaction, as the two appartments do not really share a common space. Both have their own balcony, barbecue area and car parking. We heard the neighbours' walking, sometimes low voices and we saw their beach towels drying on the balcony. That is about it. When you come to Carmelo's apartment there will not be any basic supplies like salt, sugar, oil, coffee powder, creamer, herbs, and so on. The kitchen equipment is very simple, but somewhat sufficient. You always have to wash everything right away, in order to alway have plates, cups and cutlery available. Only for our Lasagne we had to shop for an aluminum dish. There is a lot of nice beaches closeby. Tropea, a nice old town a 25 minute drive away, is definitely worth a day trip. We really enjoyed our stay at Carmelo's house. Tropea gave us the Mediterranean, Italian vibe we were craving for so much. We are looking forward to staying at Carmelo's another time at some point in the future. Thank you Carmelo!

This flat with this phantastic view is really the ideal place for relaxing holidays! We stayed for 2 weeks and were really sad when we had to leave .... the flat is big enough, is really well equipped (also with a mosquito-net in the bedroom), is silent, has a big balcony and a terrace on the mountain-side of the house - and a stunning view towards west and sunset - and Capo Vaticano! The house is so intelligent that there is always one sunny and one shadow site - and they are changing during the day. This helps a lot in hot summers! And the fire place is also great - so we really felt in love with that house / flat. In a couple of minutes you are at really great beaches with turquoise water (we recommend the southern end of Grotticelli), but you have also great possibilities to make excursions f.e. to the old byzantine city in Zungri, to Tropea, to really nice and vital Vibo Valentia (visit the market on Saturday morning there and the Suebian castle with a great archeological exhibition), drive via the fast superstrada or via the panorama strada to the Mare Ionico - visit Gerace - the great excavations in Locri - eat at the Cactus Bar Ristorante at the Lungomare in Locri the best risotto and fish or nero die seppia ever - and and and. In short distance to the house you will find good fish, great vegetables, good macellerias, wonderful fresh Ricotta, Mozzarella, local Pecorina and other cheese in the different local 'Latterini', and everything you need for your stay. Gaetano, the owner, is really really friendly and helpful (and speaks english), and he invited also to his fine swimming pool in the nice garden of his hotel in Coccorino. So all in all - if you want to make holidays, to relax and if you want to become inspired of sea, sunset, food, art and history, and also to get in contact with local people - stay here. It is really worth to travel to Calabria - and to Gaetano's place!

We (couple in our 30s) stayed at Casa Gaetano for one week at the end of July, and we had a fabulous time. The apartment was a real surprise- much bigger than we had expected, and with a wonderful balcony and absolutely stunning views of the coast. Inside, everything was very clean and well equipped for our stay. The main bedroom had a double bed, and patio doors leading onto the balcony, and the kitchen had a dining table, and again patio doors leading onto the balcony. There are also patio chairs, a table and a parasol out on the balcony, and we ate most of our meals out there. The apartment is off a quiet, winding country lane, so everything was very peaceful - perfect for a holiday! Communication with the owner to book the apartment was easy, he always replied very quickly to our emails, and while we were there he did everything he could to help us enjoy our stay- even setting up a TV so we could watch the last evening of the British Open golf championship! The flipside of being in such a wonderful, secluded location- a car is absolutely essential, and the driveway leading to apartment is extremely steep and has a sharp bend on it as well! The actual car parking space at the end of the drive is great though, under shade and pretty much outside the front door. Overall, a fantastic place to stay in a beautiful part of Italy, and I would love to go back.
