The area was lively generally (not far from Khao San Road) but the lane where the hotel is located was actually fairly quiet in general. The bed was comfortable. The swimming pool (in the separate building) was a nice bonus, though too small and narrow to swim comfortably. There was no breakfast in the package I booked.
The check-in system was not user-friendly. The reception desk was in a separate building and instructions on how to get there were not clear. Access to the room required a code sent (after some waiting time) to my mobile phone – whose battery happened to be flat at the time. The guy at reception tried to be helpful but was not very efficient. After a long and exhausting journey I could have done without all the hassle. Why not use keys or entry cards like most other places? The original room allocated had a constant hum from some malfunctioning electrics so I had to go back to reception and ask for a new room. The new room didn’t have a single stick of furniture apart from the bed – all my stuff had to stay on the floor in my backpack. There were few people staying at that time – but judging by the level of noise when some people did turn up, clearly the sound insulation in the whole building left a lot to be desired. Yes, it’s the backpackers’ area so no expectations of luxury – but this was just inadequate by any standards.
