The Shumard Cabin at Campfire Adventure Ranch sits near the Salt Dunes Basin Trailhead of Guadalupe Mountains National Park. This remote desert retreat offers a queen bed, kitchenette, AC/heat, and linens. Outside: a grill (bring charcoal) and picnic table. The modern bathroom is about 160 feet away. Enjoy the trading post, ride a fat tire bike, or join a tour—all with front row views of the highest peak in Texas.

We really enjoyed our stay in this rustic cabin. The view is spectacular and at night the stars are amazing. The mattress is comfortable and bedding is nice. However, I was not prepared to have to walk 50 yards to the bathroom. The description says 1bedroom/1bath it just doesn’t say where the bath is located. There is also no running water in the cabin. All in all we would have probably still stayed here but it would have been nice to be better prepared.

Host was great and cabin served its purpose. However, I was a bit surprised the only modern bathroom was not close to our cabin. Senior citizens often have nocturnal bathroom visits. Not a fan of walking outside late at night.
