Not nearly worth the price
Very quiet at night, since it is on the edge of a small village. The hosts are friendly and try to be helpful.
Terrible breakfast, we had to get another one on the road, especially the coffee was a disaster - you get to use an instant coffee maker with the cheapest capsules possible. Don't expect much other than a room at the end of a decaying wooden staircase. You don't get access anywhere else in the building. The location is quite remote from any tourist infrastructure.

Authentic experience of living in a castle!
Just before we arrived for our holiday I read a quite critical review of Chateau de Salvert. But, let me just say that we had a fantastic holiday at Chateau de Salvert! The castle is not a big hotel. It is the home to a family who rents out a few rooms and cottages. We had one of the rooms in the castle. Our room was renovated to perfection. It has a stylish decor combining classic features with a modern touch. The bed was super comfortable. The weather was extremely warm during our stay. But it cools down in the evening. So we slept very well. A traditional French breakfast – including fresh croissants and baguette – was served for us in the breakfast room. This room is also beautifully renovated in a classic style. During our stay we visited the surrounding villages, castles and musea. There were also nice hikes in the surrounding woods and along the Loire river. We found plenty of good restaurants in the neighborhood to eat. In the afternoon, we sat in the shade on the porch of the castle to enjoy the view of the grounds. We also loved the pool during the hot weather. Tip! we brought our own pool towels. They only rent out a few rooms so it was very calm. We nearly had the place to ourselves. We felt what it must have been like to live in one of the great chateaux of the Loire. In short, it was a truly unique and authentic experience. The owners are also very nice. They took their time to tell us about their home. We felt that they do their best to make you comfortable. Some parts of the castle still need to be renovated by the generations to come. But the rooms where we stayed in were all done so perfectly. I would definitively book again at the chateau de Salvert!
We had a great time! But a small point of improvement is that we missed some parasols in the pool area.

Expensive stay with nothing in return, you are essentially sponsoring the renovation
This was an expensive stay (€136,00 per night + €1,60 tourist tax per night) with nothing in return. The castle looks great from far but on closer inspection it needs a lot of renovation. We get it that it costs a lot of money but this is no reason to let tourists pay for that and give them the bare minimum for their stay. Let me give you an overview of our experience: - The pool; we arrived in the evening and wanted to cool down after a very hot day. There are no pool towels provided by the stay, unfortunate but a minor thing. We got a confusing pool schedule for COVID-19 precautions (in july 2022) that according to the owner nobody was obliged to follow, strange, why do we get this schedule then? There was this note on the schedule that "no sunscreen is allowed to protect the liner of the pool and to protect the environment"... This is just ridiculous, they are essentially saying that people should rather develop skin cancer. Even more ridiculous because there are no parasols or whatsoever to give some shade at the pool. The nice poolhouse from the pictures is "entrée interdite" as it is private for the owners; thus those pictures are false advertising. At 7pm the pool is closed by the owner because "it needs to be cleaned"... This was not advertised and way to early in high summer. But good we were relaxing at pool side and wanted to stay a bit longer because my 7 months pregnant wife had some abdominal pain for which laying down helps. Apparantly this was not to the liking of the wife of the owner, she and her son had arrived at the poolhouse. We could hear her arguing with her husband to "why aren't they leaving", "this is private", "they have their room"... They were also increasing the music volume quite loudly. A very passive aggressive way to drive us away, she never talked to us in person...
(see first part above) - The room was insanely hot to sleep in (did not sleep at all the first night), no airco, no fan, no sun protection for one of the windows. Leaving the windows open at night didn't help enough to cool down, only a lot of moths and other insects came in the room. The bed was hard and the duvet was waaaay to thick for the time of the year. - The room itself is non-cohesive; it could be a hotelroom anywhere but stuffed with some antique furniture but did not at all convey a castle feeling. If anything, it felt like a theatre storage room. And also a bit smelly... The stairway to the room was even worse; the grandeur of it was totally lost due to the storage (old clothes, old furniture, conference boards, old electronics in a box, wine boxes...), very sad lighting, walls full of nails, spiderwebs, very detoriated paint of the classic wall paneling and ceiling. - The bathroom had a toilet, sink and shower. The toilet was way to close to the sink for a normal person. There was no toilet roll holder, small thing to have but very inconvenient to put the roll on the floor or on the sink and risking it to get wet... There was no shelf or anything to put your bathroom items. Towels were not replaced after a few nights. - The breakfast was absolutely the bare minimum with the cheapest products. We ate 3 days in a row the same jam as it was the only thing you could eat on your bread. The cheap coffee pads for the senseo were not tasty. When we arrived we got half a box of apple juice, when we left, we still got the same half box of apple juice. Probably the next tourists as well... The paper tablecloth to protect the real tablecloth was very uncosy and gave a very low quality restaurant feeling. The breakfast happened in an old salon that did convey the castle feeling (too bad that all the seating was midway an upholstery job). The cherry on top was that we were part of the scenery midst our breakfast when the owner gave a tour to five random...

Superb
A really beautiful chateau - and a privilege to be able to stay in it. The owner was very kind and helpful. We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment in the main chateau, which had been recently refurbished and was comfortable.
The mattresses in the second bedroom were not very comfortable.

Serene, picturesque, calm
Swimming pool, good sized apartment for 2 adults, 2 children, property was very clean and well equipped kitchenette. Beautiful setting and very quiet. We enjoyed our short 2 night, one day stay.
Pool closed at 7pm in the middle of summer which is a bit early and given there are Set times for swimming which was due to corona it would be nice to have more opportunity to swim. if people don’t use alloted times then it’s wasted opportunity. No fans in rooms. Pedestal fans might be nice given it is quite hot when windows are closed to keep mosquitos out. Coffee machine is Senseo so doesn’t take pods and none provided. No tea bags either.
