About this cottage rental
Situated in Smith Mountain Lake, this attractive cottage for $300 per night is a great option for your next trip. Come see why they say “Life is better at the lake!” Enjoy a relaxing stay at this quaint home with beautiful wide water and mountain views and a gently sloping lot. Cuddle up by the wood-burning fireplace. Or get some fresh air on the open deck and large screened porch with ceiling fans, comfy seating, and outdoor dining furniture overlooking the lake. The property has a fabulous dock with built-in bench seating for you to enjoy the view. Enjoy exploring the lake on the canoe with provided life jackets. The main level of the home is bright, open and airy with a beamed 15’ cathedral ceiling, open to a cozy family room, dining room, and kitchen. Down the hall you’ll find 3 bedrooms and 1 full bathroom. The basement, though separate from the main level, has foosball, TV, and a washer & dryer. Basement also has a second full bathroom (partially finished!) perfect for cleaning off after a day in the lake! Large covered dock w/ floater, perfect to tie up your personal or rental boat (covered slip & hoist not available for tenant use) and electricity. Central A/C, Washer/Dryer, Gas Grill, blender, coffee maker, dishwasher 2 Queen beds, 2 Bunk Beds, queen air mattress, 1 queen sleeper sofa (available in the partially finished basement) Enjoy cocktails while watching the sunset or making S’mores after dark in the comfortable Adirondack chairs surrounding the new fire pit down by the water. The home is in a quiet, shaded, older neighborhood, perfect for walking & jogging. Lake location is supreme, being near the mountain and the dam at the deepest, and cleanest part of the lake. The quiet, protected cove is very safe for canoeing and waterplay around the dock. We’re conveniently located a half mile from Mitchell's Point Marina and SML water sports and boat rentals. **RENTALS ARE 3 NIGHT MINIMUMS MEMORIAL DAY THROUGH LABOR DAY. TWO NIGHT MINIMUM ALL OTHER TIMES. PRICING VARIES BASED ON PEAK SEASON, OFF-PEAK, AND HOLIDAYS -CLEANING FEE $125.00 -HOMEAWAY RESERVATION FEE (varies) -PET FEE $100 -REFUNDABLE DAMAGE DEPOSIT $200.00 (refunded one week after check-out, assuming no damage) Items to bring: LINENS (towels, wash cloths, sheets, pillow cases, blankets) trash bags, paper goods (toilet tissue, paper towels), detergent (dish & laundry) flashlight. Items NOT to bring: Worries & stress. CANCELLATION POLICY: 100% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date. 50% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date. House was perfect size and in a perfect location just minutes from the marina where we rented a pontoon boat. Loved the house’s private boat dock area with swings and seating and the private beach on this property. The house’s boat dock was a great place to watch the sunset and see all the stars come out. House had paddle boards and kayaks too. Really lovely to sit on the big screened in porch overlooking the water!

The house was comfortable overall but the bedrooms are very small and 1 very outdated bathroom for 4 adults was not comfortable. We knew about the downstairs bathroom but that became seriously annoying to have to go outside to access. There is no tub to bathe children. A full size mirror somewhere would have been useful. The back porch is wonderful. The owner is generous with offering use of household items and water toys. The sandy beach was nice for accessing the water, which got deep very quickly so great location for boating and swimming.
We appreciated being able to bring our dog but didn't learn till we arrived that a neighbor's cat wanders the property all day, particularly the dock area. The cat is very friendly and our dog is not bothered by cats but others might be so it should be noted in the listing. The cat made itself comfy on chairs and towels left out, leaving cat hair to shake out so that would be a problem for anyone allergic. Additionally, the neighborhood is full of dogs, who bark a lot. One large dog swam in from another house to approach our dog and the toddler. He seemed friendly enough but it was a little unnerving to face a strange dog that way, with no owner in site.
The dock has lots of seating but is mostly sunny so an umbrella would have been useful. Shoes are a must..the entire dock is in need of repair. Raised, uneven, splintered boards were a problem every step.
Overall, we had a very nice week and thank the owner for sharing his home.

Had an amazing time at this property enjoying the spectacular view hanging on the covered deck and screen porch. We spent time swimming paddle boarding and boating with family. Lots to love about this location!

We had an amazing time at this lake property. House was very clean, lawn was clean, beach and dock were clean. The little beach was great for our 2 and 3 year old to play on. The shallow water entry was very helpful for little kids not experienced with swimming/deep water. We would definitely stay at this place again!

The property was great and family friendly. We enjoyed our stay and its proximity to Mitchell's Point Marina, which allowed us to rent a boat for the day with ease.

We were supposed to be at the beach but our plans chaged at the last minute. Wanting a change of scenery and to still get away for a few days we found this place. Nice cozy little home with lovely screened in porch. Great dock and small beach area at the water. Even though it was just two of us and our dog there was plenty of room for more! Bed rooms were somewhat tight and shower was small but most of your time will be spent at the water or in other areas of the house. We also enjoyed walks around the neighborhood and dinner one night at Mitchell's Restaurant & Pizzeria which is just around the corner at the marina.

The house had all we needed to have a great time, the kids spent a lot of time on paddle boards and we had a wonderful stay enjoying the lake, watching movies, board games, the fire pit and the grill. The host was friendly and always responsive. Would recommend for sure!

We really enjoyed our stay here. Owner was very responsive and helpful. Easy check in and departure. Dock, Lake and firepit area was where we spent most of our time. The Lake is so still and clean and incredible... Cabin is a little rustic by modern standards but fit the bill for the setting and was more than comfortable enough. As mentioned, load up on food and supplies because it is a bit of an inconvenience to get that once you settle in, and there aren't many places to eat or drink at. Once at the cabin you don't really want to leave anyways. We did spend a day walking the dog around the state park which was a 15 minute drive and that was worth it and we enjoyed. Overall a really cool lake house and would recommend if looking at this area.

There was a small beach area in the backyard with easy walk-in into the lake (our dog loved the lake more than any of us!). The dock was the perfect way to stay in the shade and still enjoy the lake!

The home was very comfortable. Activities in and around the house suitable for all ages to enjoy. Renting a boat was easy. I recommend booking boat early in the spring to reserve what you want when you want it. Docking at the house was easy. I also recommend that everyone in your party bring an awesome float. The house has canoe and paddle boards. Thank you to Scott for letting us rent your cute cottage, it was just our style. I also appreciate great communication!

My family had a wonderful stay and a great week! The place was well kept, had a beautiful new screened in porch, nice quiet cove, and everything you would need to enjoy time together at the lake. The home was the perfect size for my family of three plus our GSD. The screened in deck was so spacious and looked righ out onto the lake. The water was crystal clear and you could just walk right in. The dock had a table and chairs plus built in benches. The view was amazing! The neighbors were friendly. We felt like we were in our own little haven. It was great to be able to use the canoe and life vests. Next time we will stay longer and rent a pontoon boat. The marina is literally around the corner from the house. I can’t thank Mr. Hall enough for sharing this gem with us!

We were able to park our boat trailer on the property with no problem. It was so nice to walk down to the dock, board the boat and go fishing. The cove the house sits on was near the dam and the fishing was good. It was wonderful to be able to do laundry and the kitchen and grill were easy to use. I can't say enough about this place and the host. We will book again!
