Great location, fantastic decor with quirky beer garden. Nice fresh cooked breakfast. Fan in room with nice toiletries and large towels. Glasses and large bottle of water provided.

Very disorganised at check in. Completed online registration with all information prior to arriving and still had to fill it all in. Queue for reception was out the door and blocking the entrance where waitress was trying to serve dinners and people were trying to get in and out of garden and restaurant. Extremely noisy, glass bottles were emptied at 4am on large truck. Followed by scaffolding being erected at 5 onwards. Then beer delivery. Lots of noise from doors slamming. Room very dusty and mould in bathroom. Needs some tlc as cracks in ceiling, broken shower holder and broken wall hangers for wardrobe. Online and door card states breakfast till 10am but was told 9:00 latest.Such a shame as have visited York before and the pictures looked so nice that’s why we booked.

The location is great, just inside the city walls and less than 10 minutes' walk from the train station or a good sized car park, and perfect for access to everything to do in the city as it's very walkable. The team were amazing, so welcoming and friendly. The room was full of charm as it's a historic Grade II listed building, but it had all the ameneties and was very comfortable. It also had a great close-up view of York Minster. As it is also primarily a pub and restaurant, the availability of good quality food and drink was great, too.

These points are not negatives, just for awareness for people who might have different needs for their hotel stay. Becasue it is so close to the Minster, there's no escaping the bells tolling from early-ish in the morning so it might not the location for anyone who wants to sleep in. Also, as it's an old buiding there are no lifts - it's only three floors to the top, but it might not be suitable if stairs are no good for you.

Location was wonderful, breakfast was nice.

Room was very tired - being generous, for the cost of the room
