About this cottage rental
Located just east of Oostburg, Wisconsin beach and lake front home is a place to enjoy the seasons of Lake Michigan. You have your own 200 foot 'singing sand' beach. Home is located on a private road among native stands of hemlock and pine trees. The property has historically been known as 'The Clearing'. Lake Michigan in 2022 was at highwater levels which resulted in the sand beach being minimal for much of the season. Lake levels as we enter 2023 are now down. The sand beach has returned in December 2022 with 15' of beach in calm waters. Things are looking good for beach and beach walks in 2023! This Non-Smoking home sleeps six. The dominant windows bring the outside in throughout the house. Additional amenities include wood burning stove, beach campfire site, dining area overlooks the lake, sunroom and cove rooms for coffee and quiet time overlooking the lake. Extra cabin in the rear has electricity, another two twin beds, and wood burning stove. This extra cabin provides a quiet place to get away from others or fun for the kids to hang out in. Area Information: 43 miles north of downtown Milwaukee via I-43 and ten miles south of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Nearby attractions begin with golfing (Blackwolf Run Courses, The Irish, Whistling Straits - site of PGA August 2004/2010/2015, 2007 US Senior Open & Ryder Cup 2021, The Bull, The Bog, and others). Variety of shopping is available with Kohler, Cedarburg, Sheboygan riverfront, and antique shops throughout the vicinity. Motor sports at Road America at Elkhart Lake. Bike trail access is within four miles in Oostburg. Daily fee access to public boat launch facility is six miles south. Nearby state parks of Kohler Andre and Harrington Beach provide further samplings of the area’s natural beauty. Casual and fine dining is available in Oostburg, Kohler and Sheboygan. Milwaukee area is home to many major events and attractions with less than an hour’s drive. Beautiful, quiet location. You can view the lake from most of the house. Alot of different areas to sit and view the lake. The beach is steps away from the deck. The weather was chilly, cloudy and rainy when I was there that was disappointing. Still enjoyed my stay.

The cabin was perfectly nestled on a quiet gravel road on the shore of Lake Michigan. Clean, rustic and full of surprises. The kids loved exploring the home, property, woods and of course the star of the show…the beach. The view of the lake and sound of the surf makes me happy. Great fall weekend getaway although we would have loved to stay longer.

The smoke detector woke us up TWICE!! Very unsettling😡
We had not had a wood fire.
The street sign is covered up by a branch, and it is Not a gravel road. I called for help and did nit hear back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cabin. It has a rustic feel, and yet it has modern amenities. We loved the sound of the waves rolling in on Lake Michigan, and just sitting and watching the lake was so relaxing. One thing that we really appreciated was having a box of tissues in almost every room. This was a blessing for our seasonal allergies. We were happy to find a small crockpot in the kitchen because we forgot to bring ours. One caution for senior citizens such as myself who have some trouble with stairs. There are two short staircases. Since they are short it wasn’t a big problem for me. My sister is in much better physical condition and she had no problem with the stairs. In fact, she enjoyed walking our little dog around the area. All things considered, we had a totally enjoyable stay at this cabin.

The clearing proved itself to be the perfect spot to gather with my parents so they could spend time with my children. Driving up to the property is a literal wooded oasis. Stepping out of your vehicle you can hear the waves crashing onto the beach at the front of the house. The beach is just wonderful, we spent *almost* every waking moment on the beach. We took many beach walks, built lots of castles and rode some waves. The cottage itself is so very cool from the old windows and hardwood floors to the amazing picturesque views from almost every room. This place is the quintessential midwestern family vacation spot…think Chevy Chase movie circa 1980s…absolute perfection!

Clean, cozy, thoughtfully appointed, quiet, peaceful describe this cottage. Happy we were able to bring both my mom (88 yr young) and her cavapoo. We ALL swam in the lake...the sandbars are close to shore. Shopped a few times. The local Piggly Wiggly was close. But we also ventured to Sheboygan for swimsuits and to visit the impressive Miesfeld's meat market, and Rupp's supper club in Cleveland (just north of Sheboygan). Hope to visit again in the near future.

My only complaint is that the stay wasn’t long enough.
This is an adorable house in a secluded half/woods/ half beach environment. It has everything you need to enjoy your stay. On a side note, we met the property caretaker when he coincidently helped us with a deaf runaway dog. Super nice guy. We hope to be back soon

The place was exactly what I wanted. Clean cabin with plenty of space and beautiful views of the water. It had everything I need from dishes to a grill. Fireplace was also wonderful. My dog had an awesome time as well.

My husband and I with our dog, June couldn't have asked for a more perfect accommodation.
The weather, on the other hand , could have cooperated more. We would love to come back again when we can enjoy the water and the beach more... but the scenery was ideal for hiking. Plan to return!

This was our second Easter trip to The Clearing and it didn’t disappoint. Beautiful moonrise, great beach walks, grilling, lots of room for bocce ball and an Epic Easter Egg hunt on this beautiful property. The views of the water from the porch are unmatched. Lovely place with lots of charm and everything you need for a family weekend away.

We came for a long weekend over spring break for something fun to do not too far from home. Brought our two dogs as well, we all loved it. House is clean and right on the water. We enjoyed eating out at a few local places, exploring the area, beach walks with our dogs, and just hanging out. Weather was a bit chilly and water was ice cold, but beautiful nonetheless. Lots of good places to eat not far from the house. Hope to return sometime!

Love this property. This house is the perfect rustic lakeside house, quiet, private and about 30 feet from the lake. The view from every window is gorgeous and man, just what a great spot. Thank you to the hosts for what was a great weekend getaway.

This property is absolutely beautiful inside and out. The pictures just can’t do justice to the real life experience. Lake Michigan is literally at your feet off the patio and the sound of the waves is constant. All of the windows bring the outside in and the cottage feels so cozy. Visiting in mid October, we appreciated the heat being on upon our arrival. It is well stocked with amenities including things that weren’t expected such as maps and information on surrounding communities and places to go hiking. We enjoyed a fire in the pit provided on the beach. This property is very private and quiet making it a great place to relax. We are hoping to visit again. Thank you to the owner for allowing us and others to experience this.

The house has everything you need for a fun and easy weekend at the lake. The beach and views are beautiful. My kids love the bunk bed room, and it’s perfect to watch the sunrise. It’s really a special spot on Lake Michigan and hard to leave. Nearby golf, pumpkin patches, hiking, bike riding, and if weather is warm enough dip in Lake Michigan.

My husband and I brought our 2 dogs here for a 5 day getaway. It’s RIGHT on the water. Best property we have ever stayed at. We took the pups for walks on the beach every day and had campfires at night. We will definitely come back to this place. The only thing we would do different is stay longer!

We had a wonderful week’s stay at this lovely cottage. It is truly a hidden gem, with beautiful beach views and peaceful woods making you feel like you’re worlds away. We enjoyed swimming and walking along the peaceful beach, and loved watching the waves from the beautiful wrap-around windows throughout the cottage. The space was perfectly clean, the beds very comfortable, and the kitchen well stocked. Check in and out was a breeze, and communication was great. This was our second trip to “The Clearing”, and we hope to return again soon. Thank you for sharing this lovely piece of paradise with us!

This place on the lake was perfect. Super quiet and rustic. Very comfortable and my family enjoyed it so much. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but there are 1-2 large boulders that you step on to get down to the water. (Just an FYI if you have someone in your group that has a hard time climbing.) Super shallow (at least in 2022) so you have to go out really far to get to "swim" level, but we still had a lot of fun.

We had a great stay at the Clearing. It was clean, comfortable and had a beautiful view. We did all our meals in and found the kitchen/dining space accommodating. There was a rock wall you had to climb down to get to the actual beach and you couldn't take very long walks down the beach, but the beach was still awesome. We spent a lot of time in the water, used the fire pit one night and enjoyed the spacious gathering area inside for games, TV, reading, etc. We had our dogs with us and the house is very dog friendly. We also went to Kohler State Park one day and biked on the Interurban trail another day. The hot water heater stopped working while we were there and the owner was very responsive and had it replaced the next day. Highly recommend this beach house!

Fabulous place and location. Great water access since lake level down a bit but young and old might need a little assistance.
Host provides great back up supplies. Very nice bed linens, lots of towels, though you might want to bring extra beach towels. Two of the single beds in the “bunk room” a little uncomfortable for adults. Plenty of puzzles, games and books. But mostly the view from almost any spot in the house is soothing and relaxing.
Must keep track of moonrise times, most beautiful sight ever..

What wonderful views we were able to enjoy looking east from north to south...the sunrises, the waves or the total calm, the clear water and sandbars, the orange moonrise along with Mars and Jupiter in the northeast, the shooting stars, and the most incredible lightning show encompassing the whole lake, that we've ever seen. Plenty of room, well equipped, good kayaking, and Todd was very friendly and responsive. It was great to be back on Lake Michigan--my happy place!!

This was our second stay at The Clearing ~ and we will be back! From the moment we walk into the cabin, it feels like home away from home.
Rustic, clean, charming ~ with many unique features, and everything you need to feel at home and enjoy your visit.
We enjoy the lake views ~ gorgeous sunrise and sunset; surrounded by trees and nature. Private and secluded ~ but, not too secluded! Shallow water with sandbars ~ made swimming and enjoying the lake super fun.
From preparing family meals, and eating at the large dining table on the screened porch ~ to playing games and enjoying the wonderful cabin ambiance at night, we enjoyed every moment of our stay.
The hosts are the best ~ couldn’t ask for more. Can’t wait to visit next summer!

We totally enjoyed our stay at The Clearing. It was nice and clean and we had all the comforts of home. The house is rustic, and the views are incredible. The property is beautiful, and does not disappoint. We enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the waves, when the weather was chilly it was just as nice sitting inside. We were lucky to see many of the wildflowers in bloom and were visited in the early evening by deer. Our kids enjoyed the fire pit, and there was plenty of wood available to use. We enjoyed shopping nearby in Sheboygan and Port Washington, stopping in for the fish fry at the Fork and Tap, which was very good. We loved it and hope to visit again!
