Paradise! Private Beachfront Home with Pool on Gorgeous Playa Blanca
About this villa rental
Situated in Guanacaste Province, this lovely villa for $385 per night is a great choice for your next break. Treat yourself to staying at Casa Playa Blanca situated on one of the most beautiful pristine beaches on the Nicoya Peninsula -- Playa Blanca, nestled between 2 world class surf breaks at Playa Junquillal and Playa Negra! Feel great that you are vacationing in one of the world's blue zones. Relax on the secluded Playa Blanca with a good book and a cold beverage, or swim and snorkel in the clear water. The beach is accessible directly from the casa by way of a gently sloping private footpath. Playa Junquillal is a long stretch of beach to the south and is perfect for walking and beach combing. You are likely to see some surfers and perhaps locals fishing off the rocks, and the occasional group of horseback riders, as well as several species of seabirds, and of course, the Turtle Sanctuary which rescues and hatches out turtle eggs. If there is a hatching, you can be part of releasing the tiny creatures into the sea. The secure gated property offers privacy with direct access to the pristine Playa Blanca as well as a delightfully tranquil Bali style infinity edge pool which offers serenity both day and night for your exclusive use. From the terraces and pool deck you will spot several species of birds and butterflies. The 2200 square foot home accommodates up to 6 people and features an open concept living room, kitchen and dining area which anchors two full master suites to the north and south. Each suite has a large split system air-conditioning unit, full bath and private outdoor sitting area. The south bedroom has a king size bed and the north bedroom has 2 queen size beds. For larger groups, a guest house on the property that sleeps 4 is available at extra cost. Note: Guest House will never be rented to parties other than those renting the main house. There is a Pack 'N' Play available upon request. Weekly housekeeping is included for rentals longer than 7 days. More frequent housekeeping can be arranged at additional cost. Spend time relaxing in the private tranquil infinity pool overlooking the ocean, unwinding in the shaded hammocks or taking advantage of the many recreational activities available nearby, including: • swimming • surfing • snorkelling • stand up paddleboarding • bird watching • watching and protecting turtles • adventure tours • whale watching • biking • golf • fishing • horseback riding • canopy tours • kayaking • beach walks • breathtaking sunsets Our property manager, Mary, can arrange numerous other activities and services such as massages, cooking, babysitting, and transportation. We enjoyed our stay at this property. The pool and patio area are excellent. The house is spacious and served our basic needs with a fully stocked kitchen. While the beach is quite steep for walking, accessible beached are nearby and easily accessed.

We enjoyed a wonderful week at Playa Blanca. The home was wonderfully equipped with everything we needed. Both bedroom wings were quiet, well appointed, and the AC never failed. The instructions for using the home were very well detailed and Mary the manager was always just a phone call away and she did a great job lining up entertainment in the area. The incredible beach access was so handy and the pool deck was perfect when we were not at the beach. Felix the guard cat was a hoot!

This is a a beautiful property, perfect to get away and unwind. Located just outside of Junquillal, a small sleepy village near to the beach about thirty minutes south of Tamarindo and only 1h20 drive from Liberia airport.
The house is well maintained and well equipped. The kitchen has everything you need should you want to prep your own meals or just for lunches and breakfast. It is very secure, with an alarm system and lots of security features - we never felt unsafe. The two bedrooms have their own bathrooms and AC, perfect for a family to be together but have some space. If you want there is also the guest house that is very well setup (owners charge a small fee per night if you decide to use it). House has laundry facilities which is a huge bonus that allows you to travel light.
Definitely the highlight of this property is the pool and the beach access. The pool is very private since the property boundaries are all treed, you will feel all alone back there! Pool is a lovely temperature and has a gently sloping entrance so if you are travelling with little ones it will be easy for them to paddle safely while adults are swimming just a little further out. Overall back yard area is beautiful. Only thing to note is that the pool and surrounding deck does not get any shade until mid to late afternoon but there is lots of shade just a bit further back on the covered patios.
Beach access is easy and secure with a well maintained footpath running down to white and black sand. The water does have rocks to each side but there is a swimming area right in front and if you like snorkeling people seemed to be enjoying that. The beach is quiet except on public holidays - most days 2 or 3 other families at most.
We found the local area to have most of what we needed. You will want to stop at a big supermarket on your way and get your bigger items but for everything else the supermarket in Junquillal is surprisingly well stocked with essentials as well as fruits and vegetables. There are many good and reasonably priced restaurants around within a 5 - 15 minute drive as well. You can also do zip lining, horse riding and ATV riding within a 30 minute drive - National Parks are quite a bit further (2h30 each way)
Owners were very pleasant and very accommodating with us in allowing early / late check-in and check out.
If you want to get away from it all this is a great place to be!

My family of 4 had a great vacation at Casa Playa Blanca. This property is located far enough away from the busy tourist locales but close enough to key amenities. Highlights of our stay include:
- Feliz the house cat is a charming (and vocal) companion. My family loves cats (we have 4 at home) and having Feliz was a bit of a gift.
- The house is right on the ocean. Playa Blanca is a beautiful beach, mostly populated by Costa Rican residents.
- The house is great - a nice large and open living space with two large bedrooms on opposite ends of the building. Kitchen is well stocked. Beds are comfortable. The pillows are actually quite bad and we recommend that the owners upgrade them. The house isn't brand new and is a bit worn in a few spots but at the price point the value is excellent.
- Property manager Mary is responsive and knowledgeable
- There are about 6 very good restaurants quite close to the house (1-2 km). You'll likely want to drive but they are close, food is excellent and inexpensive. The best two include Lochitos and Mundo Milo.
- Internet/wifi super suitable for streaming
- Nice quality beach and bath towels
- Well stocked kitchen accessories
- A very special highlight is VerdiAzul, a not for profit organization on Playa Junquillal (just south of Playa Blanca) which protects, hatches, and releases sea turtles.
- Not perfect, but nice snorkelling on Playa Blanca when tide is low
We will return absolutely. This is a great property.

Two big bedrooms with bathrooms, each up 2 steps from central room that includes the well-equipped kitchen. Great pool. No view of ocean but you can hear it; get to it by private path. Whole property is very quiet and private. High fence, locked gate, bars on widows and doors. Responsive manager.

We are grateful to Laura and Bob for sharing their slice of paradise. We were looking for secluded spot with a pool and on the beach and we certainly found it. The house is beautiful. We loved the layout. The kitchen is well-equipped and you’ll want for nothing. There are some great photos on VRBO, but, as someone else mentioned, the property is even more beautiful in person. You will see various birds, lizards, frogs and crabs, sometimes up close! The beach has plenty of trees that provided shade if you need to seek relief from the sun. The sunsets were amazing!
The grocery stores close by have plenty for what we need and the restaurants are incredible. We've enjoyed Hotel Playa Negra & Guacamaya Lodge. We went into Villarreal to Come Fruta on Mary's suggestion for fresh produce. Mary also booked us on the river boat tour that included the pottery demonstration. Huge fan of the boat tour and the lunch after was just delicious- you won’t be disappointed. We highly recommend you read through the book at the house when you arrive as they have compiled great information there. We downloaded Google maps before we left the USA and it worked like a charm. The surrounding roads can be rough and we were glad to have an SUV to navigate them. While out exploring the area, we spotted some howler monkeys and they can be heard (but not seen by us) from the house.
We would be remiss if we didn't mention Felice, the cat! He was never very far and we loved having him around.

Casa Playa Blanca was everything that you want for a small family to enjoy some time away. Great access to the beach and having a private pool is key with small children.
Traveling with small children we found that we definitely needed a car as the location is remote, unfortunately rentals were hard to come by during our visit.

The Beach of Your Dreams
This house is located in a private, absolutely secure, beautifully remote location. The beach is one of The most beautiful I’ve seen and I am a beach connoisseur! The house is very well appointed, kitchen had everything we needed and there was plenty of room, it’s a great size if you’re traveling with another couple or another family. We enjoyed everything about our stay and would highly recommend it!

Our family of five all above 18, enjoyed our stay @ playa casa Blanca. The only thing we’d recommend is more lighting by the pool for nightlife. Also the path to the beach was a bit longer than anticipated and the beach was at a slop which made walking the beach more work. But overall the casa was excellent and what we we’re looking for. Our most memorable moments were when we’d open the door in the mornings and find Felice the cat coming in to say hello. Our favorite restaurant was Lochito’s. It’s right passed the market Mercado’s right up the road from the villa. We would definitely return for another stay.

Another Perfect Vacation
This was our third trip to Costa Rica and our second stay at Casa Playa Blanca (aka Casa Andy). We wanted to escape the craziness of the COVID situation and the frenzy of the holidays. Casa Playa Blanca was a perfect solution with it’s remote location and peaceful outdoor space. More people were on the beach this visit than last time (July 2016), mainly local families. This was probably due to the holidays and dry season. Everyone respected social distancing.
There were driving restrictions and curfews imposed by the government during our entire stay. As we had a rental car and didn’t drive at night, the restrictions did not hinder our activities. We had plenty of time to enjoy the beach even with the restrictive beach hours which began 2 days before our stay ended.
There were a number of great restaurants and outdoor activities available in the immediate area between Playa Junquillal and Avellana. We spent many hours walking on the beach and exploring the tidal pools. While the Ostional turtle hatch wasn’t happening during our stay, we did spy several baby turtles in the surf. If you need crowds, shopping, and the nightlife, you won’t find that here. Head to Tamarindo or other points north to find those.
Both bathrooms have been remodeled since our last visit with nice upgrades. Kitchen was stocked with all the equipment we needed. There is no TV and the Internet is spotty. We didn’t need either as we came to disconnect, so this did not detract from our enjoyment. The roads were still dirt but recently graded. This was as expected and probably helped to minimize the visitors. We utilized all of the gates, locks, and the alarm system and never had any problems with theft.
The property manager Mary was very helpful and offered many suggestions for restaurants, catering, and interesting activities. Lochitas was highly recommended and we completely agree. We also had several meals from Lolas and Guacamaya during our stay. While dining in was an option for all of the restaurants we used, we did take out instead. Our biggest adventure was a four hour guided hike at Barra Honda National Park, about 1.5 hour drive. What a view with lots of wildlife! Yes, there’s more to do there than exploring dark caves.
Thanks Bob and Laura for once again sharing your personal paradise with us!

We thoroughly enjoyed Casa Playa Blanca for 3 weeks!
This was our 5th trip to Costa Rica; our 2nd to the Junquillal area. We have rented ~40 homes in many countries; Mary Dierkes & her staff are tops! The house & grounds are very private; well-secured by fencing, gates, prickly landscaping & alarm system. Nothing to be concerned about - typical CR security measures. Infinity pool amazing & landscaping extensive. We heard the May>Nov rainy season was not as wet as usual. In 1/2018, vegetation was lush in this area & insect repellant needed; this year hardly any need. The beach, Playa Blanca, is cove-protected, mostly sand w/ rock offshore for protection; best snorkeling we have found in CR. Tide is 5-8 feet: snorkel at low tide out over the rocky shallow bottom, play in the water on the then sandy bottom at high tide. 5 sets of masks/snorkels provided, but only 1 set of back-strap fins. Walk the beach for miles (almost no trash); sunsets amazing. Water shoes best for a walk; some rocky areas. 3 pairs of water shoes provided, size 8,11,?. Playa Junquillal, next beach south, far rougher surf. Seeing baby turtle release at sunset from the marine turtle hatchery is special. Releases, if & where, not well publicized; ask at the turtle hatchery, Junquillal EcoLodge, TPV tours downstairs & Verdiazul (see Goggle). Don’t miss Playa Negra for boogie-boarding (~4 boards provided). A friend who stayed with us had never boogie-boarded before; she had big smiles. Go to Lola’s, picture perfect beach restaurant. Beach road to Playa Negra & then Lola’s has 2 seasonal creeks; no problem with higher clearance 4wd SUV. The birding highlight was a blue-diademed motmot along this road. Also ate at Guacamaya Lodge, Junquillal EcoLodge and MundoMilo; all very good. Mary sent caterers list before trip; PuraVidaCateringCR.com came to the house. The 4 of us watched, asked questions of our gregarious cooks, learned new techniques & had a spectacular meal. There was 1 outage of the municipal water supply each week, none longer than 3 hours, all in the afternoon. Owner said uncommon to be off that often. Mary ordered a 5 gallon water dispenser. The MBDR AC needed freon; Mary had it fixed next day. DSL Wi-Fi didn’t extend beyond MBDR and indoor&outdoor dining tables. Daily outages, an hour or so, possibly related to the cable crews we saw each week on road to Santa Cruz. The outdoor cat, Felix, is friendly, does not scratch & keeps other animals away, except for an armadillo which we saw once when Felix was on patrol elsewhere.

Great property with a great breeze
Our stay was fantastic and the property was beautiful. It was very relaxing and it was great to have our own beach access. The path needs to be trimmed just a bit but it was nice to be able to just walk through the yard and be right there. The snorkeling at low tide was amazing and great for families and beginners. Lots of colorful fish, tons on puffers and we even saw an octopus and a stingray! The only complaints I have were the bed was a bit hard and the cat. If you love cats you would be very happy but we are not lol. It is always trying to get in and is very “mouthy” and the property manager stated..he’s not mean just constantly looking for affection and often times was “hanging” out with us. If you are looking for rest and relaxation this is definitely the place for you...oh and lets not forget the pool....our adult children used it quite often and there are plenty of little spaces with lounge chairs and such to catch some rays. Keep in mind that if you want to see the rainforest, which we did, it is about a 3 1/2 hour drive but well worth it. We also went to Tamirindo twice which is about 30min away. We absolutely had a fantastic time, created some great family memories and hope to visit Costa Rica again😀

Excellent house and location for a Costa Rica Holiday
Great location and atmosphere for a vacation. We are a family of 5 with young children and had plenty of room and property could accommodate more as it has an additional cabin. House has excellent bedrooms, kitchen, and eating areas. Very safe house with security system. Private pool was great for our family and grounds were well kept with lots of great lawn chairs for enjoying the outdoors. Lots of native birds also in the garden. Beach area is spectacular with great views of the sunsets, miles of sand beach to walk on, no garbage, and the ocean water is crystal clear and good for snorkelling. Were able to spot lots of wildlife in the ocean. House is close to great restaurants and 20 minutes away from great surfing beaches. Would recommend this house to anyone who wants a spectacular house on the Costa Rican coast.

Great place to stay...
Our family of 5 spent 8 days at Casa Playa Blanca. Its private setting is perfect for relaxing at the pool, or enjoying the tide pools and swimming at Playa Blanca. It is also centrally located with easy access all the amazing beaches and activities available around Playa Negra, Playa Avellana, and Playa Junquillal.
The house is well equipped, and we felt very safe with the security system in place.
Mary was amazing, organized all of our adventures and was always helpful if we had questions. She even alerted us that the turtles were laying eggs in Ostional, and made arrangements for us to visit on our last night in Costa Rica.
We would definitely stay again.

Time to chill
Overall the property was great. Plenty of room to roam inside and out. The pool was a fabulous plus. The property Mgr, Mary along with her team are awesome. Always helpful and courteous, use her as she is a wealth of knowledge. Mary turned us on to having some meals made by a local chef, Jennifer at La Ventana...we ordered some main courses and numerous sides and salads, loved them all. Mary also arranged for the fish truck and bakery truck to stop at our gate during our stay, again highly recommend to do that. People we met were great, the surrounding area is just beautiful, but remember it’s a darn jungle really. I’ve read how some folks rent a small little sedan, my experience is go for the suv 4 wheel drive. The minute you turn off the nice paved roads anything can happen, we had lots of rain and the mud was deep and messy but the little suv we had made it fine. This is a relaxing trip, not much to do so chilling out is was we did, long walks on the beach both directions, bring beach walking shoes as there is some rocky areas, but not dangerous.

Look No Further!!
If you want to stay in this area, look no further, this is your house! We stayed at Casa Playa Blanca for 8 nights and couldn't have asked for more. It is a fantastic property!! The pictures on the website do not do it justice. All 5 of us were blown away with how spacious the house is and the size of the pool. The walk to the beach is very short which is nice for going back to the house if needed. We all felt very safe at Casa Playa Blanca and everything is very well managed. Mary, the property manager, is friendly and goes above and beyond to ensure you have a wonderful stay. We were in Costa Rica for a wedding and hosted a small party for the bride and groom one night. We used Michelle with Hello Fresh catering to cater the party. The food was fantastic!! I highly recommend her if you need anything catered. Also, we needed a babysitter a few nights as we have a 2 year old and attended some wedding activities. Mary suggested Lila as a reliable babysitter, and we couldn't have trusted her more with our son. She is punctual, responsible, trustworthy and attentive. I was very nervous to have a sitter but once I met her she put all my worries at ease. If you need a trusted babysitter definitely ask Mary for Lila's contact information! When we go back to Costa Rica we will definitely be staying here again. I can't say enough good things about Casa Playa Blanca or Mary. Pura Vida!!

The perfect beach vacation-eat, drink, swim, read, sleep
Our week at Casa Playa Blanca was the perfect escape from the perma-gray of a cold and wet Midwestern winter--nothing but sun, warm temperatures, a cooling breeze, and refreshing pool or ocean to dip into. The house was more than enough for the three of us, with the two large bedrooms, permitting privacy and an air-conditioned sleep, separated by a large common room that led seamlessly to the outdoor space. With the outdoor space, depending on your needs or wants, you could spend whatever part of the day in the sun or shade. The pool, grounds, and beach are as pretty as the photos show. Playa Blanca gives you a prime spot for watching the sunset each evening and, along with Playa Junquillal, gives you a miles-long beach walk. Nearby are a remarkable number of restaurants (most very affordable), providing lots of local fare and seafood. We had lunch and dinner out for a week and ate in a different restaurant each time.
The property manager, Mary, could not have been nicer or more helpful.
I'll be back.

Idyllic Setting!
Spent 2 wonderful weeks recently at Casa Playa Blanca. Beautiful sunsets out by the pool topped off each day perfectly. Quiet and peaceful, just what we needed. Warm ocean breezes and crashing waves. Friendly people. The house is spacious and well laid out for 2 couples. A few items in the home require attention which the owners have assured will be addressed. An amazing place to vacation.

Beautiful oceanfront home
Very private and secure home with beautiful grounds. Layout of house is well designed, 2 separate wings with large bedrooms and bathrooms with private balconies, large living area and good size kitchen. Many trees in yard, oceanview and nice pool for refreshing swim and very short walk to the beach. The owners have beautiful cat that is no trouble, so loving and great to have around. At dusk, the raccoons come into the yard but the cat is always there to protect his territory. Many birds, land crabs and iguanas around. Mary the property manager and staff are always there, just a phone call away, if you need their help. You feel very private and safe staying at the casa, as if no one else is around. What is great about Playa Blanca is that it's not touristy and most of the beaches are not crowded, except for Tamarindo, lots of people but very long and wide beach, so lots of room to move around.
Good restaurants in Junquillal such as Guacamaya Lodge, Mundo Milo Eco Lodge and Lochito's are 5-10 min away but my favourate restaurant was Villa Deevena in Playa Negra, 10-15 min drive by beach road, 5 star, the chef creates magnificient plates, the food was so good and the service is impeccable, they don't miss a beat. AIso italian restaurant Il Rustico in Playa Avellanas is very good. We enjoyed a spa day that lasted 4.5 hrs at Los Altos De Eros, boutique hotel and spa with most amazing view, 30 min drive from house, way up in mountain, need SUV or they can pick you up for a fee, $275 including gourmet lunch with wine, 90 min massage and 2 other treatments, money well spent, very relaxing, masseuses were great and food very good.
Many beaches to explore such as Playa Junquillal, Negra, Avellanas, Grande, Brasilito, Flamingo, and all the ones in between Playa Potrero to Playa Danta which is a very scenic road especially when driving up the mountain.
The day pass $99 all inclusive food and drink at the Westin in Playa Conchal, 1 hour drive is well worth it but must call the day before to make sure they have availability, large pool and beautiful crushed seashell beach. Well worth buying some costan rican artifacts from the local vendors on the beach, the prices are very good when comparing to stores. Day pass at Hacienda Pinilla, 30 min drive is well worth it for $35 with pool and beautiful long beach at Playa Avellana, food and drink are extra.
We loved our time at Casa Playa Blanca, we didn't want to leave it.

Absolutely Amazing
Pictures of this place don't do it justice. This is 10 stars in our book. What a amazing place. Perfect for 2 couples or even a family. Large living room and kitchen separates the bedroom and private baths. It was truly wonderful. Very private. So nice to be so removed. We went to Tamirindo several times and other excursions and always we were glad to be back at the Casa. Amazing beach right in front and the private pool : ahh! Amazing, Amazing place!!!!!! If you want hustle and bustle this is not the place for you. Very relaxing and serene. It exceeded our expectations.
One of the delights of this amazing home is it came with a sweet cat named Feliz. We all 4 are cat lovers and were sad to leave our pets at home, so having Feliz visit regularly and hang out with us made the trip extra special and memorable. Feliz was a 3 week old starving kitten when he was rescued by the owners. He has an interesting personalty that is affected by this early trauma. He meows a lot, communicates, wants attention but we were ok with this and came to understand when he was begging for food and when he was wanting attention. When we came back from our outings he was very vocal: Where have you been?? We adored him, he adored us and life at the Casa was sweet. Please give Feliz some loving. My friend Linda showed me a trick, put your finger on Feliz's nose for a moment and he would stop meowing. Wow, it worked. His vocals did not bother me at all. The owners ask that he not come into the house, he is very content to just hang around outside.
Love this place and would go back. Beam me back Scottie!

Location, location location !!!
We loved our stay at Casa Playa Blanca and found the beautiful property to be secure and the house was clean, spacious with a well equipped kitchen. The landscaping, proximity to the ocean and totally private pool set this property apart from others. The ocean is only 100 steps from the beach gate and offers many activities such as miles of beach walking, snorkelling, surfing and swimming.
We enjoyed our morning coffee on the terrace, looking out at the ocean and enjoying the soothing sound of the ocean and listening to the many species of birds singing in the trees. The WiFi worked very well and allowed us to keep in touch with family back home.
We really didn't want to leave this beautiful place and will surely return soon!
Pura Vida.
