2 bedroom, 2 bathroom Townhome - Center of Historic Santa Fe, Car Unnecessary
About this house rental
Permit #: 157077 Palace of the Sleeping Dog-Dos is a newly renovated townhome situated in a single building comprising 3 distinct units, each with a separate entrance. Located at the corner of East Palace Avenue and Paseo de Peralta, this lovely townhome is just a 5 minute walk (0.3 miles) to the Plaza in the center of historic Santa Fe. A car is unnecessary. This historic property, renovated in 2019 to a very high standard ensuring quiet accommodation , has an open spacious feeling with abundant natural light. The home opens to the light filled open-concept living/dining/kitchen with hardwood floors throughout. The living room is designed for comfortable entertaining or relaxing, and the dining room features a wood burning kiva fireplace. The immaculate kitchen is tastefully appointed with high-end finishes and top-of-the-line appliances. The master suite features a King bed. This bed may also be separated into two twin beds upon special request. The guest bedroom has a Queen bed. The two bathrooms, each with a walk-in shower, exhibit the same level of tasteful finishes found throughout the house. There is a shared laundry facility (for the 3 townhomes) on premises with with a full size washer and dryer available upon request. The access is generally intended for guests staying one week or more. Welcome to the Palace of the Sleeping Dog: What’s that name all about? We chose it because: A. It relates to a Santa Fe legend, B. We love dogs, C. No one has a greater talent for relaxing and sleeping than a dog!, D. Our lovely building is on Palace Avenue and who doesn’t want to highlight an address like that, and E. If your dog would like to join you on your trip, Welcome! Now regarding that Santa Fe legend: The famous Santa Fe based novelist Richard Bradford related that when describing to visitors how to get to his house (which, by the way, was very close to where you are now, just up Canyon Road), in the absence of street signs (this was in the 1950’s) he would tell them to “Turn left at the sleeping dog.” There was a large shaggy dog who spent most of every day napping in a shady patch on Camino Del Monte Sol, so reliably that he served as a landmark. But the point of Bradford’s story goes beyond the literal. In Santa Fe, we understand the value of going slow, of marching to the beat of our own drum, of going along with change but not too fast and not too completely, and yes, of knowing how to enjoy a fine spot of shade on a summer day. And should you feel so inclined, you might engage in a few other canine meditations, under the gaze of the meditating dog you will find in your apartment. Is there some situation in your current life, for instance, where you might be better advised to let sleeping dogs lie? Do you sometimes venture into places or situations unwise for anyone but mad dogs and Englishmen? Do you pursue things doggedly? Are you currently dogged by any worries that you perhaps could let go of? Rest, relax, take a stroll to the Plaza (5 minutes), sit on the porch with a cup of coffee or drink. Or for more ideas on how to enjoy Santa Fe, see the guest manual. Tommy Macaione Park is a short block away for enjoying the outdoors or walking your dog (please pick up after though). Tommy is a famous local Santa Fe artist that used to paint wonderful landscapes from the park venue.

Everything about this stay was fabulous. Great location, roomy and comfortable. Love being able to bring our dog as well.

Lovely, well maintained property within easy walkable distance to all downtown Santa Fe restaurants, galleries and shopping. My girlfriends and I had a wonderful weekend in Santa Fe and the Palace of the Sleeping Dog was a great place to retire to after full days of walking, art, and food. Will definitely stay here again.

Stayed here to attend a family celebration. The location is great. Five of us stayed comfortably. We slept and showered only. All good. Would happily return.

This building seemed to have been a commercial building previously and has been renovated into 3 units. Overall, it’s very clean and nice but there is not much insulation in the walls and you can hear everything including the vehicles and motorcycles driving by outside. If you are a light sleeper, I would suggest taking the back bedroom or using the room air conditioner to give you some white noise. Another reviewer had mentioned the lumpy guest bed in the second bedroom, and we did experience that as well. That said, you cannot beat the location, the cleanliness and the overall space layout is good. The Property Manager was extremely responsive.

If you want to spend your time roaming the streets of downtown, the Railyard Arts District and Canton Road then this place is definitely for you! Park your car and never move it. This property is just a couple of blocks from the Governor’s Palace, Georgia O’Keeffe Art Gallery and so much more. Very nice, clean, comfortable property and exactly as described. Will definitely stay here in our next trip!

The shampoo and conditioner were skimpy and we had to buy TP.
Went to the opera.
Geronimo, the Compound, La Casa Sena, Cafe Zacatlan, Clouflutes, Vinegrette, Tia Sofia, Atrisco etc.

Very nicely appointed property in a great location. There was plenty of room for me and my husband and our three kids.

Fantastic property - great location, very clean, comfortable and well appointed with thoughtful touches. Very easy base to access all Santa Fe has to offer and a treat to come home to. High ceilings, bright white walls and skylights make even the middle unit feel light and airy. Sweet front porch for watching the world go by. Easy communication with host made the visit seamless.
Only thing I’d change if asked (as noted by other reviewers) would be front bedroom mattress sagging somewhat in middle.
Will definitely stay here again if back in Santa Fe!

We had a wonderful time, second stay at the Sleeping Dog.....

This was a very nicely done rental with a good kitchen set up. Quality above usual rentals. Comfortable beds and linens. Super clean when we arrived. The close in location makes it great for exploring the history and art of downtown. It is on a little bit busier street but knew that having been to Santa Fe before.

We had a great time in our stay, it was a great location with a walking distance to many places and very spacious. Would want come back and would recommend to stay.

One of the best places we have stayed at using Verb. Very clean, exactly as described, and so central to all Santa Fe has to offer. We were in town for a wedding at the hotel across the street; for the price and the square footage you get compared to the hotel, this place is soooo much better. We'll be staying here on our next trip

Cozy, Clean, Pup Friendly & Conveniently located in Downtown Santa Fe! We thoroughly Enjoyed our stay especially the walk ability to Town & Fabulous Restaurants. Also, the Hosts were Available, Helpful & Friendly!

overall the property was clean, spacious and close to downtown Santa Fe. However, both bedrooms had sagging mattresses toward the middle which attributed to restless sleep for both couples. We left maps behind for the next guests as there were none when we arrived.

This was my first time in New Mexico and we were so close to the town square, restaurants and galleries. The unit was very clean and the check-in/check out process was great. We enjoyed our stay here and recommend it if you are traveling with a family.

We rented all three units for a family reunion . The price is great and the location is outstanding. Easy walk to anything in the downtown area. We even walked to the Farmers Market by the rail yards and it only took 30 minutes. The host, Richard is super responsive to all questions! We’ll stay again!

Perfect location
We had a good stay. We were in town for a memorial service and have visited Santa Fe 20+ times over the years. This was our first time renting and it was great. Convenient location and clean rental just as advertised.
My kids had the front room off of Paseo de Peralta and they said there was some noise but not as much as you would expect given the location. The larger back bedroom was very quiet.

Loved everything about it!
We had a small family reunion to celebrate my in-laws 50th anniversary and this was perfect for our family. Very clean and easy walking distance to everything. Highly recommend!

Santa Fe, sleeping dog
Very close to downtown.
The air conditioner did not work in living room. We were not informed of the problem. We did have a fan delivered which helped. The replacement refrigerator had a loud hum which was annoying.
But the condo was very clean, very comfortable.

The refrigerator went out the first evening we stayed - had to have the property manager and repair guys in our space for a while- the manager did not knock anything off our bill. The couch was ok to sit on- the rest of the furniture was not cozy - we had our dog - it said we could bring our dog- park was two blocks away - not really anywhere we could let our doggie out - the busy street was literally our front yard.
It was clean and the beds were comfy.
The location was close to downtown and in walking distance.
Hope this helps others.

This is our 3rd trip to Santa Fe and the first time we stayed west of the plaza. The unit was great! It had everything we needed, was very clean, and the communication was timely.
Yes, there was street noise as some reviews have mentioned. But, it didn’t seem louder than the other times we’ve stayed near the plaza.
If we come again with our dogs, we would book again!

Easy walk to town
Condo is in a great location to walk to the plaza and all things downtown. Condo had what you needed and was very clean. There is some road noise as one previous reviewer said but quiets down at night and didn’t bother us at all. Leslie, one of the property managers, was super helpful and kind after we were in a car accident and our transportation back home was questionable. Would stay here again!

We enjoyed our stay very much. It was cozy but spacious. I loved the vanity in the bathroom with drawers for my things, and a hair dryer. Nice shower. Privacy for each couple, but nice living area to be together in. And the location, with just a quick walk to the Plaza and our favorite restaurants, was ideal. We chose this property because we wanted to bring our dog, so we appreciated that. The kitchen was nice with top end LG appliances. Fairly quiet location even though on a busy street. Great price too. Thanks for such a nice property.

Great place to stay!
Very clean, great location, nice kitchen amenities. Front bedroom is a bit noisy from road traffic but is ok. Mattresses were a little sinky. Otherwise had a great time. Very walkable and in the middle of it all.

First time to Santa Fe!
Upon arriving much earlier then expected Richard allowed us to check in early, which we greatly appreciated. The condo was updated and very clean. The owner allows fires in the indoor fireplace and we found this smell to be really bad. We kept the windows open whenever we were there during the day and still on day 5, the smell was terrible. The location was key, 15 minute walk to the Santa Fe cooking school and 20 to the farmers market. We agree on the traffic noise with previous reviews. Very loud, but we brought ear plugs. The kitchen was fully stocked for our needs. This property is within walking distance to almost everything. A car is not needed. Although, I recommend scheduling an Uber ride ahead of time if you need a car. Overall, I would have given 5 stars if not for the fire smell and traffic noise.
