Staying in this hotel is like stepping back in time

Although dated the hotel had charm , good value for money and great location. The hotel offered car parking facilities next to the hotel for an additional cost of £13 per day.

It was hard to get out of it. We were located at the back of the hotel and there was only the one lift which seemed to be miles away . Don’t bother ringing reception as no one will pick up the phone. Best take the trek down to see them.

rubbish, I would not stay at this hotel again

nothing

room smelt of cigarette smoke, asked for a double bed and got 2 singles. the shower head sprayed out sideways, fell off and then wouldn’t work. there were no shower screens and it wasn’t actually a proper shower just an over bath hold in your hand one so it was impossible to have a shower. we complained to reception and the lady just said it was our fault for not complaining last night. we didn’t get to our room until after midnight.

I loved the old quirky feel to the whole building and the crisp clean bedding and the location was excellent xx

The only complaint I had was that the room was to hot, the heating was on constantly x

Surprisingly good

The location and the cleanliness were very good and the views from our room were out of this world. To be fair we were expecting something bad but, as run down as it is, my mate and I were fairly surprised. Overall, a surprisingly good experience. I'll recommend the venue.

Well, I'm sure the property knows this perfectly well. The facilities are bit run-down to be fair. It is clear that it is a very difficult building to maintain but it needs a bit of work. With the right investment it could certainly become a top-class destination. At the moment, it is great value for money.

Awful won’t be staying here again not worth the money

The location was fab

Check in was awful the guy shouted behind the desk. You had new staff on it was mad. Room was awful the price you pay and no option of twin beds just given a double. Check out is 10am wow that’s mad Just awful customer service

Excellent breakfast, evening meal, late check out, small but clean room, tea and coffee facilities. Beautiful public lounge area. Helpful friendly staff. Excellent value for money.

Downstairs toilets had a problem with the drains, very smelly. Incident where a cleaner let herself into my room around 9am when I was getting dressed and not decent- - embarrassing. Why barge in at 9am? I was there for 2 nights and not leaving that day.

Really interesting place to stay, with all the history and finishings! Good stuff outweighs the bad.

LOVE the old character of the hotel, felt the history of the building the moment I walked in! Breakfast and dinner were very good! Loved the spaciousness of the room. Staff were very pleasant and accommodating!

Room was too warm, but just opened windows, so it was fine. Could not get WiFi to work in room #213, not good, but it was fine downstairs. Would have loved an 11 checkout instead of 10, felt a bit rushed especially since my train home wasn't until half 12.

Ok value for money but would not stay again

The location was good and the staff were very helpful at all times. The room was ok, but not the most comfortable. This was clearly once a great hotel but seems to have gone downhill recently.

The shower was awful, more water came out of the pipe than the shower head. The window didn’t open so I had to ask someone to help me open it. The tv in my room didn’t work during my week stay, despite me telling reception, nothing was done about it. The hotel also should have taken the money from my card before my stay, but they didn’t so it was very confusing when I went to check in.

I booked this room f0r a friend of mine and upon his arrival he was told there were no rooms available. Even though he actually had 2 rooms booked and confirmed under the name of peter kerrigan. Absolute disgrace

Get what you pay for basic but nice

Very central to everything. Clean nice cosy room lovely staff value for money .

View from our window wasn't very good we looked straight on to a brick wall we did laugh at that 😆 Breakfast when we got down to it. It was minimal bacon over cooked for my liking not much of a choice basic but was nice enough. Says it has a pool but they don't have one anymore found out after looking for it then asking member off staff to be told no longer have one Lifts to rooms we was on 5th floor felt like they took forever to arrive.

Nothing £172 a night and another £7 per night for wi fi. No air con, no windows would open. A large room with only 2 bedside type lights . I am 71 years old. I need a ceiling height light and/or wall lights. 2 lifts, on Saturday night, only I working. Apparently the other had broken down. But by Sunday mornibg both lifts working. I did not stay for breakfast I just wanted to leave.

Room 226. Bath would not retain the water and taps dripped externally and internally. Toilet seat slipped. Lift worked inconsistently.

Tired and grubby hotel that I will not be staying at again.

Room not very clean. Behind bathroom door dirty. Furniture very shabby... handles missing. Telephone did not work even after reported on first of 3 days. Very small towels. Corridor dirty. Spillage on floor outside lift still there after 3 days. Wouldn't agree that this is a 3 star hotel Breakfast very basic and some of the hot items weren't cooked properly... burnt bacon and eggs solid ... been kept in the oven.
