Nestled in Funchal, this attractive condo for $208 per night is a fantastic option for your next trip. Charming penthouse with a balcony with total privacy and lovely views over the sea, perfect to enjoy sunbathing or alfresco dining, a bedroom with views to the mountains, a mezzanine, a dining/living room, a bathroom and a fully equipped kitchenette. This apartment is on the top floor of a typical architecture building with only four apartments, one on each floor. Owning to its situation you can breathe the sea breeze and listen to the sea waves. Just crossing the street you have the seaside resort Barreirinha. Nearby there are the natural beaches in the pebble “Calhau São Tiago” and “Touco”. Centrally situated in the Old Town with lovely fish restaurants, pubs, bakery, cafes, the very typical Market and all the amenities around it. No car is necessary, everything is in a short walk. Unfortunately we cannot comment as we were relocated upon arrival in Medeira. The host relocated us which was a big surprise as we were not advised with no explanation. It was not the Old World Charm we were looking for and we’re disappointed, but it turned out quite nice. Just felt that better communications could have taken place. Bob

Old town Funchal great location
This apartment is in a great location for exploring Funchal and the balcony overlooking the ocean is fantastic! The apartment is just as advertised but could benefit from a bit of updating. We enjoyed our week there very much. Be aware that the upstairs loft is a very steep climb! And the bathroom is off the downstairs bedroom so it's really only suitable for two people or a family. We would recommend this property.

Elsa's apartment in Funchai
Gem of a place with beautiful views - best view we've had ever I think. Fab location so glad we stayed here and not up in the Hotel Zone and it was superbly equipped and clean. We walked everywhere and had some great meals. Elsa's daughter Maria was extremely accommodating. Will definitely stay here again we still have the levadas to do but didn't have appropriate footwear. All in all a great stay. Only thing I would say is to warn people about the café/bar downstairs - not a problem for us but it was noisy on Friday and Saturday evening as the Madeirans like to party!

Lovely place to stay
The apartment is situated in a great area overlooking the ocean. Great views. It is very comfortable and convenient for many restaurants. Inside plenty of seating for 2 and 4 at a push. Kitchen has all that is needed to make a meal to allow you to self cater if you want to. The balcony is great to sit out to eat, drink or just watch the activity at the cafe down below. The downside of the cafe is the noise of staff clearing up at the end of the day and Friday night music , which may suit younger people!! Saying that it didn't bother us too much as just closed the doors.
All in all we enjoyed our stay and found Elsa very helpful, especially when we locked ourselves out. Her daughter arrived within an hour to let us in.

Maderia Magic
This rooftop apartment has a lovely welcoming feel to it and is in a fantastic location just outside of the 'Old Town' .
Although its not very modern it is very well equipped with kitchen appliances and lounge furniture and we certainly had all we needed for our recent stay.
The accommodation is across the road from a lido complex which is usually open until 8pm. Next door is a small bar frequented by locals and visitors alike and which is very popular at weekends - noise level was quite high on the Friday but not a problem for us. The apartment is in walking distance of a huge number of restaurants. In our opinion an ideal location for those who want to do their own thing.

A lovely high ceilinged appartment with balcony overlooking the sea, well placed for the Old Town
Nice, airy third floor apartment, a short walk from the heart of the Old Town. Excellent pavement café right outside, overlooking the sea. (Live music or DJ on Friday and Saturday but not very late and certainly didn't bother us). Our lovely hostess Elsa offers airport pick-up for less than the taxi fare if she's free. Finding the place from public transport drops might be a challenge: find the narrow restaurant packed Rua de Santa Maria and keep walking East (7-8 mins) until you hit the café Barreirinha (mentioned above). If you are more than a couple there are good sofa-bed options or the scary mezzanine. Note that the bathroom entrance is off of the main bedroom. If we return to Funchal we wont be looking for anywhere else.

My wife and I spent 10 days in the apartment and overall we enjoyed the apartment located in Old Town Funchal. The outdoor space faces south and it gets both the morning and afternoon sun. Elsa has provided all the comforts of home (including candles for wonderful alfresco dinners during warm nights). The apartment is charming with high ceilings and beautiful woodwork (staircase and ceiling). The area of Old Town Funchal is absolutely stunning with many restaurants, markets and museums within walking distance. The bar downstairs provide nice music including live jazz sometimes. Elsa, the host, is really helpful and friendly.
There is, however, room for improvement especially in the bathroom which is in dire need for an update. Although some reviewers complained of loud music from the bar downstairs, it did not bother us at all. What was annoying is the noise from the bar staff cleaning and working behind the bar in the early hours after midnight when they are closing. There were some issues with ants but we believe Elsa is taking care of that.
Overall, an enjoyable stay.

Billiant location, great views
The property is just as described and the location is perfect with great sea views. There is a Lido area right below you as well as a really nice bar that sometimes has excellent music in the evenings. The area is popular with locals and visitors alike but has a really nice ambience. Elsa is really friendly and a mine of information she will for a small charge pick you up or drop you off at the airport if you give her enough notice.

Good facilities -Excellent location!
Probably the best location in the old town (Zona Velha) with nice views of the Atlantic Ocean and the mountains. Easy parking in the nearby parking parking house. The apartment had all the facilities that we needed. The bar downstairs can be a bit noisy during the weekends, but the music is turned off at 11 pm. We have stayed thered there once before and would definitely do it once again. For safety reasons (a vertical 3 meters ladder) we would not recommend to use the mezzanine, so in our opinion the apartment is only suitable for two persons.

our second time staying at the property but we will be back. a very well equipped apartment with the perfect view across the atlantic.
situated in the old town just along from the sao tiago fort.
plenty of eating places and a supermarket near by. directly across the road from the apartment is the newly refurbished lido. well worth it for a quick dip. there is another pebbly beach up the hill and down the step down the cliff. the steps down to the beach are an experience in them selves, but we enjoyed it.
back to the apartment. it is very clean, spacious and i could certainly live there permanently.
elsa (the owner) is very approachable and has picked us up at the airport on the two occasions we have stayed there. nothing is ever a problem.
i would certainly recommend this property to all.
the only point that may be an issue for some would by the steps up to the apartment with it being at the top of the building, but then it is madeira and walking up hill are to be expected :)

Wir haben wunderbare Tage im Appartement „Old Town“ verbracht. Das Appartement ist sehr schön, hat eine wunderbare Aussicht und die Terrasse ist ein Traum.
Elsa war sehr nett und sehr hilfsbereit. Die Schlüsselübergabe war perfekt.
Danke nochmals an Elsa für die tollen Restauranttipps. Wir konnten leider nicht alle ausprobieren, aber wir werden kommen wieder.
Von uns gibt es die volle Punktzahl.
Kleiner Hinweis noch:
Das Mezzanin ist nur über eine hohe Leiter( keine Treppe) erreichbar! Man sollte etwas klettern können.

Problems with DJ
We booked the apartment a number of months ago and checked comments before committing. We had been to the cafe below the apartment a number of years ago and thought the area was great and the cafe a great place to watch the sunset. Around the time of our trip I checked the comments and found references to DJ's and noise on the weekends but comments said not too bad or implied only occasionally happened.
Well it turns out that every Friday and Saturday there is a DJ at cafe. On Friday he started at 7, set up in plaza in front of cafe. The noise was unbelievable - thumping heavy base beat (no vocals) and it went on to about 2 in the morning. I looked out at 1 o'clock and was surprised that there were only 4 women bouncing in front of the DJ's read light and maybe a dozen people learning against the wall. Maybe half the little tables had someone there - not a roaring success. On Saturday the DJ started by 5:30 (he was going when we arrived back from our hike). It was too much to even consider a drink on the balcony so went for an early dinner and then to the carnival parade and returned about midnight. Again few people at the DJ (3 women bouncing and maybe a few more people around). We shut ourselves into the bedroom, shut all doors and windows, put in earplugs and used a big portable fan for white noise and then read our books. I spoke to manager on Sunday and he said that there was no DJ on Sunday but one was coming on Monday.
So you have been warned. If already committed remember your earplugs.
Re: General noise in area. A few streets towards the centre there are a number of noisy bars but this part of old town in generally quiet.

Lovely apartment with great view and nice location
The apartment is even better than we expected from the description and the pictures. Very good standard, nice house, amazing view from the huge balcony, and Elsa is very kind and helpful. It would be a clear 5-star rating if it wasn't for loud music until late in the night from the bar downstairs for at least two days per week. The bar and the people are nice though but within our 10 days we had the bad luck to get two "DJ nights" with loud music until 2 or 3 a.m. in the morning. Otherwise the location is perfect, walking distance to the Marina / port along the seaside, to nice restaurants and the city center. We loved it, especially having our breakfast on the balcony with amazing sea view.

10/10, perfect stay!
We visited Madeira a few weeks ago, and had a fantastic stay in the old town of Funchal.
This was partly due to the fact that we stayed in Elsa’s gorgeous apartment…
The apartment is perfectly located, and the views from all windows are stunning. It is just as appears on all the photos, if not better.
Even though it rained some of the time we were there, we could still make use of the outdoor terrace area as it had an awning that came over the top and sheltered you from the rain while still letting you relax in the sunshine. The view from the terrace was gorgeous, and it was lovely to have the shutters open in the evening and listen to the sea.
The bar downstairs was fantastic and makes the best burgers and mojitos! Having read prior reviews, we expected there to be more noise disturbing us but it was fine.
Elsa was lovely, and gave us some good recommendations of places to see and eat. We looked on trip advisor a couple of times for places to eat out in the evening, but the ones we found online weren’t half as good as ‘O Tasco’ – a little family run restaurant just round the corner up the hill from the apartment. We ate here twice during our stay – had we visited it sooner we would have probably been every night!

We enjoy our holidays in a fine appartement in the old town of funchal - 11 very nice days. The balcony was right in front of the antlantik and mountains behind the appartement.
The habor , little restaurants and supermarkets , a lot of bus stopps and the cable car you arrived in 10 min. to go. Only the noise from the bar in the evening and during the night was sometimes disturbing.

Lovely apartment in great location
Lovely clean, tidy and comfortable apartment . The bathroom could do with a renovation but other than that has everything you need for a great relaxing holiday. Elsa was a great host and explained how everything worked with lots of good suggestions and information for local attractions and restaurants.She was only a phone call away if needed and nothing was to much bother for her. I would only have one suggestion that a small fan be available in the living room for the hot weather. I would definitely recommend the apartment to friends and family and we look forward to returning. The apartment is in a lovely location overlooking the ocean and we enjoyed relaxing on the balcony watching the world go bye.
There is a lovely cafe/bar below which serves great food and drink at very reasonable prices. It can be noisy at weekends if you like your piece and quiet but it is worth it for the location. All in all a great holiday and can't wait to return. Thanks Elsa.

A super location with very good facilities and a great view from the balcony. The flat was clean and comfortable. Our host Elsa was very helpful, reliable and friendly and gave us tips for local restaurants and activities on arrival. We would be pleased to tell our friends an family about the property. Our first holiday in Madeira
We found the apartment exactly as described,it was clean and homely with all the contents provided for a self catering apartment.We found the Owner to be ecpxceptionall kind and welcoming,providing us with a wealth of local information.We loved the ambience of the locality We enjoyed our walks in zfucnpchal and trips to gardens in the hills,all the restaurants we used we found to provide delicious food, some a bit pricey all the people we met were very friendly and helpful.There is much more for us to see and we have booked a holiday again at the apartment which we like very much and which is in easy and interesting reach of amenity links.

Very good position ,well equipped ,clean
Location great ,south facing terrace with the sound of the sea right in the heart of the old town. Well equipped kitchen comfortable bedroom.Very clean.Non of the balcony chairs were particularly comfortable. The bathroom was let down by some unsightly patches of missing enamel in the bath. Shower good. Liked the washing machine! Noise from bar below not as intrusive as one may have thought.
