Loved our stay in this cozy cottage. Awesome neighborhood.

This is a charming cottage in a beautiful location, just steps from the water. The home was clean, comfortable and had all of the amenities. We very much enjoyed our stay.

our family had a relaxing and smooth stay here. the place is in a quiet neighborhood right next to the water. communication was amazing and helpful. our family had a great time, esp. since everything was clean and kid friendly - thank you!

We enjoyed our stay. My 86 year old parents managed the steep stairs between the uptairs bedrooms and main-floor, and only bathroom. While charming, the interior needs a refresh. Interesting caulk job around the tub. The hosts are very kind and informative. Also, they greeted us with some nice surprises.

Loved meeting Jim & Val. Very attentive hosts and very lovely people. Property is beautiful and well kept. Couldn't have asked for a better view. Didn't get to stay as long as we would have liked but enjoyed our time there.

My husband and I absolutely loved staying at Val’s Vrbo property! Waking up to views of the water and the boats was so relaxing and dreamy. Their place was charming and had character.

This quaint Maine cottage is a very relaxing home away from home. It is well-stocked with everything you may need and is a very comfortable space. The home is steps from a private beach where you can find a lot of sea glass and shells. The neighborhood is nice and quiet, but full of Maine charm.

Really enjoyed our stay- nice and close to the beach. Spent a lot of time on the outside deck.
Our very nice hosts Val and Jim met us and made sure we had everything we needed. Took a day trip (ferry ride) out of Portland to Peaks island, did some kayaking, and made a bunch of visits to the nearby Town Landing Market for many delicious items. Had a fun, relaxing time.

We had so much fun! This house is steps from Casco Bay. Beautiful views. We used the kayaks, and I swam at the beach to the adjoining docks.
We walked to Falmouth Landing Market every morning to drink coffee on their porch and watch the world go by. Friendly people.
In addition, the house is very close to Portland. It's like driving to town. The house has everything you need for a summer vacation. The hosts were responsive and available. The beds and rooms were so comfortable! Lovely Getaway.

Accommodations are indeed modest, and yes, the stairs are creaky, but the house worked for our small family. Val and Jim are attentive hosts and provide anything and everything you could want or need for a trip to the Maine coast. Kayaks, paddle boards, a fully stocked kitchen, towels, beach chairs, etc.! ACs and an onsite washer and dryer were also much appreciated. Overall, we had a great time. Falmouth Foreside is conveniently located so you can take day trips up to mid-coast Maine (great whale watching in Booth Bay Harbor), visit shops in Freeport (hello LL Bean!), enjoy southern coastal beaches (Pine Point was beautiful), and explore Old Port Portland.

Clean, comfortable property with lovely water views from the deck and water access from the foot of the street. Quiet neighborhood. Welcoming hosts who were very responsive (with great restaurant suggestions!) and easily accessible. The cottage is well equipped and full of character!

Perfect place for our family to stay. Hosts were very helpful, they even met us upon arrival and walked us through everything. The location was ideal: a quiet neighborhood footsteps from the water, and a 10 minute drive to downtown Portland. The property has so much character and feels like an honest-to-goodness Maine cottage. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

This property was the perfect size and in a great location for our little family. Communication with the home owners was easy and that made the check in process really smooth.

We found A cozy little cottage in Falmouth. The deck overlooks a private beach with the tide lapping in and out. Kayak the coast and enjoy a fully equipped kitchen when you return to cook your lovely Maine meal. A great find.

Staying at Jim and Val’s place was wonderful! Like visiting family—the home was cozy and full of books, movies, and games. There’s also a fun playhouse for kids! My husband really enjoyed using the kayak, and we appreciated Jim and Val’s availability and willingness to help us out! They have tons of great recommendations. We were so glad to stay at The Getaway!

This is your perfect Maine cottage escape! It's been a couple of weeks since our visit, and our teen boys are still talking about the weekend! Val is a perfect host, and the cottage is charming. It's spotless, fully equipped, and has everything you need for a lovely stay. It feels as if you're staying at your favorite aunt and uncle's cottage on the coast. We can't wait to return!

This is clearly a loved property with flowers around it and lots of places inside and out to relax. It is one property away from the bay (and 20 minutes north of Portland), as the photos show. Anything you might need is supplied, as well as thoughtful treats upon arrival, reflecting the owners’ obvious hospitality. Rapid response time from owner too.
I’d suggest if renters have mobility problems they should discuss these with owners beforehand.
We are grateful for such a lovely cottage stay.

It was amazing from arrival to departure. The cottage was perfect for four lifelong friends. The view was beautiful. Nice private beach and great neighbors. We enjoyed visiting with all the dogs and their owners. Val and Jim are great hosts and went above and beyond to welcome us and respond as soon as we needed anything. Val even had some lunch waiting for us when we arrived! Everything you need is there. Just bring a few clothes and a toothbrush!

We had a five star vacation at the Getaway. That is not to say that this cottage is a five star venue, but you know the old mantra regarding real estate: location, location, location. The location of the Getaway was perfect for us. It was just as we hoped with easy access (and toys) for Casco Bay. It’s in a quiet but active and friendly neighborhood (well minus one neighbor). It’s also an easy jumping-off point for day trips. We toured Portland, the lighthouses south of Portland, Camden etc. etc.
The cottage itself is a 1930’s house that has had limited updates. That said, the upstairs beds are comfortable (we slept great) and the bathroom and kitchen, while old-school, are functional. The main disappointment was the sleeper sofa. I’m not sure how any adult could be comfortable there. The upstairs bedrooms are such that you have to walk through the large one to get to the small one, and the bathroom is down some creaky steps. That configuration makes it awkward to share the space with friends. Just think dormitory. The current sleeper sofa—and the other one—is uncomfortable for sitting too. Luckily the weather cooperated and we spent most of our at-home time on the nice deck with its stellar views of Casco Bay.
The owners, Val and Jim, were very good hosts and provided more supplies than any rental we have experienced. They genuinely want you to have a good time and we did have a relaxing yet busy, fun three weeks there. We might even come back if they would upgrade the living room furniture with a new quality sleeper sofa so we could comfortably share The Getaway with friends. It would be an easy fix to our main issue..
Meanwhile, The Getaway is a fun place to be. You’ll get used to its quirks and have a great time like we did. Thanks Val & Jim.

The cabin was in a perfect location with beautiful water views. The family loved being able to use the provided water toys and explore the tidal pools during low tide. The kitchen was fully stocked with supplies making it easy to cook and entertain, and there were plenty of towels. The owners were readily available and helpful. The owners forewarned us that the place is small, so we expected this but it was still comfortable hanging out in the cabin and on the front deck even with our family guests. The one recommendation for improvement is better sleeping arrangements. There is only one full size bed with any privacy and it is small and uncomfortable. The queen bed in the middle of the other two beds is bigger, but open next to a bunk bed. It is something to be aware of if you need more privacy, or have people who get up in the night.

Cozy Maine Getaway!
We spent five nights at this cozy cottage and enjoyed every minute! We have stayed in many rental properties over the years, but Val & Jim were, by far, the most thoughtful and helpful hosts we’ve experienced. They had special treats waiting for us upon our arrival and gave great tips for places to visit. When we noticed a hole in one of the kayaks on our first day, Jim was there the same day and not only patched it, but brought us another kayak to use as well! We especially enjoyed the access to the beach and using the paddle boards, kayaks and fishing poles. It was nice having flown in to not have to worry about linens, towels, and many other toiletries- pretty much everything was provided. Thank you for your hospitality, Jim & Val!!!

Quaint cottage with excellent hospitality
We spent 5 nights here with our twin 6 year olds, and 1 year old baby. We stay at a good amount of places with our little family and this one is hard to top. Val and Jim had everything that we needed there. Provided complimentary snacks and beverages. No need to run to the store for things right away. Excellent recommendations on restaurants and adventures. Lots of toys out for the kids to play with. We were able to paddle board and kayak. Neighborhood was very friendly. House has the old house charm, creaky steps and window air conditioning but we were comfortable there! We hope to come back to visit again.

The location is perfect to experience a Maine vacation-kayaks on property, short drive to Portland, beautiful views from rental, and charming town.
The hosts were very communicative and responsive. The house is equipped with all your family needs—linens, towels, beach chairs, kayaks, etc
Notes: The house itself would be better served for families with younger children and not teenaged family members, due to bedroom setup.

Wonderful Location!
The location was wonderful! Loved being so close to Portland and then being able to explore other local areas like Freeport. We loved seating on the porch and watching the boats go in and out. Also having the beach area just a few steps away that we could launch the paddle boards and kyak from was great. A lovely relaxing week!

Falmouth Foreside vacation stay
The owners Jim and Val were very responsive and always ready to help. The disappointment was (1) the property is not quite how it appears in the pictures. It is not directly on the water and the house is in poor shape. This applies most especially to the upstairs and the poor stairs/access. They and the upstairs were a real concern regarding safely. And (2) the neighbors were exceedingly unfriendly, even yelling at us about turning our car around when we had to park. That did cast a pall on our stay as we felt very uncomfortable whenever we saw them. I can assure you we are careful and respectful guests and would never harm anyone else property or be rude.

Stayed here for three nights as our family of four made its way from Boston to Acadia National Park. Perfect place for us to stay as we made day trips into a Portland and Boothbay Harbor. House was fantastic with plenty of room and amenities for us. Plus awesome views. Unfortunately unable to take advantage of water access as we ran out of time, but house has plenty of things needed for beach and water access like towels and kayaks. Val was super responsive to a few questions we had and great to communicate with. Highly remmend this place!

Great Location, Average House
We loved being just a few steps from the bay and playing in the edge of the water, on the kayaks and paddleboards, and exploring at low tide. The house felt not super clean and very very cluttered. After having stayed there, I felt the price was a bit high given the condition and size of the house, despite it being on the water and having the kayaks and paddleboards. The owner was extremely kind and quick to respond.

Lovely property. We had a great time in Falmouth and Maine. Enjoyed all the books. Will definitely be back. Thanks for a great fall trip!
