The FERIENDORF SONNENALM is located above Bad Mitterndorf, in a quiet and sunny setting right next to the forest and various hiking trails. Countless hiking trails and forest roads lead up to the alpine pastures. Well-marked cycling and mountain biking routes—bicycles, including e-bikes, can be rented in town. Must-see destinations: Ennstal, Salzkammergut, the Dachstein-Tauern region, the Hallstatt World Heritage Site, Lake Hallstatt, Lake Ödensee with its natural swimming beach, Lakes Grundl, Altaussee, and Toplitz, the Dachstein Ice Caves, and three salt mines. Bad Mitterndorf is a small town with all the amenities you need for daily life. There are banks, supermarkets, restaurants, cozy inns, a thermal spa, an outdoor pool, outdoor and indoor tennis courts, and a riding stable offering opportunities for extended horseback rides. Bad Mitterndorf is situated in a wide, sunny high valley between the Dachstein and the Tote Mountains. The season begins as early as the start of December. The valley around Bad Mitterndorf (awarded the cross-country skiing seal of quality) offers 120 km of groomed cross-country trails and skating trails, as well as two high-altitude trails (1 easy and 1 moderate) on the snow-reliable Tauplitzalm. In addition, the Tauplitzalm (2,100 m) features 20 modern lifts and 40 km of runs with snowmaking systems. The ski bus stop is 20 m from the house. Two 7-km-long runs down to the valley lead to Bad Mitterndorf and Tauplitz. The Mitterndorf ski schools offer alpine, cross-country, and snowboard lessons, as well as a ski kindergarten for children ages 3 and up, with lunch supervision. Within the Bad Mitterndorf area, there are 30–40 km of cleared winter hiking trails. The well-known ski areas of the Dachstein-Tauern region (Schladming/Raumsai/Loser/Riesner-Planneralm) are within easy reach.
