Palms Beach Hotel - book at your own risk
Location on Lake Victoria might have been nice, but the Palms Beach Hotel would not honor our reservation at the price we booked even though we had a confirmation email documenting our booking and confirming our reservation
The Palms Beach Hotel hiked the price when we arrived to check in after driving 200 km to get there. They said Booking.com made a mistake and if we wanted to stay we would need to pay $13 per day more. Interesting that the $13 was close to equaling the two discounts Booking.com provided when we made our online reservation

I liked the balcony and lakeside restaurant. good ours of red wine and excellent wait staff. good so so the AC was amazing bed was comfortable
not a lot to do near by. desk staff did not understand that I wanted to go on a boat at sunset. got me an expensive boda driver who left me smelling g disgusting. hot water was unpredictable and last day I had to shower in a different room. they made me early breakfast of dry bread and boiled egg. like I would imagine prison breakfast. no cream for coffee

Poor facilities and disappointing attufrom most of the staff, with the notable exception of the owner
The only plus point in this sorry experience, surprisingly, was meeting the owner, a Rwandan lady called Peace. She studied at university in England and worked for the UN in various parts of Africa before retiring to open this guest house. She was utterly charming, but unfortunately, the hotel did not match her charm One other plus point - my free airport pickup was on time and friendly, by Isaac
Where to start ?? I arrived about 9.30 pm, and decided to have a hot drink before going to bed. There is no restaurant in the hotel - it uses a small restaurant across the road, on the lake shore. Although there were still a handful of people in there, they told me they had already closed, and were unable to make a cup of coffee. I returned to my room to look for the coffee making facilities mentioned on my booking confirmation, but no luck. I went downstairs to ask the receptionist where I could get coffee, and his less than helpful suggestion was to wait until morning Meanwhile I decided to have a shower. The shower consisted of a waist-high tap, with a switch to redirect the water to the overhead shower Sadly the switch only worked if held in position with one hand. The shower discharged a trickle of barely lukewarm water Again, the receptionist showed little interest. There was no shower curtain or door, so the water from the tap gradually spread across the whole bathroom and toilet and started escaping into the bedroom, both of which had very slippery tiles There was also no sign of the safety deposit box mentioned on the booking confirmation. The reception guy looked hopefully into the cupboards, but he, too, failed to locate it. Also missing was the flat screen TV, admittedly not mentioned on my booking confirmation, but advertised on the booking.com website as begin every room The following morning I went across for my long-awaited cup of coffee. Breakfast supposedly started at the rather late hour of 9am. I arrived a few minutes later, but they were still tidying up from the night before Service was rather slow, despite my being the only customer, other than 3 guys who had come in for an early beer When my eggs and avocado on toast was delivered, it was already almost cold.
