The Royal is a lovely hotel, great space and characterful. Getting in and out is always easy even off a late ferry.
Breakfast service let down the rest of the stay. A multitude of staff hovering but a self service buffet and queuing for coffee/tea. Waved in the general direction of a table. Seems a sadness in an otherwise grand experience.

Excellent central location, right in the middle of Oban. Staff absolutely fantastic - welcoming, professional, dedicated to ensuring customers have a pleasant stay. Beautiful view over Oban bay from my room on the 5th floor. Recently modernised bathroom. Only paid for breakfast for 1 night but it was a fine cooked breakfast, although bit on the expensive side at £14.95 as an add-on. I paid for a standard single room but must have been upgraded as I ended up in quite a spacious double bedroom.
Some aspects of the interior of the hotel feel quite dated. Top floor had a leak in the ceiling with buckets to collect any drips. As this is a very old building refurbishment must be quite difficult and costly, but I hope the hotel's new owners could address these issues.

The friendly welcome I enjoyed from the reception staff on my arrival.
The price advertised for the breakfast which I declined.

Perfect location for ferry terminal and rail station. Easy access to town. Cooked breakfast was good. Reception staff on this occasion were pleasant and much more engaging. Housekeeper staff friend.
Cold choice at breakfast was very limited and they seem to be very stingy with the toast! Hotel looking a little tired now. Missing hooks in room, threadbare carpet on stairs.
