Situated in Wellington Region, this lovely house for $491 per night is a fantastic choice for your next break. Located on the beachfront with direct beach access in northern Waikanae Beach, Harakeke looks over the Waimea Stream Estuary to Kapiti Island. Never before available to guests, Harakeke is a multi-award winning (NZ Institute of Architects, Master Builders in 2015) modern kiwi bach designed by Geoff Fletcher and built by Haarlem Build to replace our previous bach “Spinifex". Harakeke was awarded #1 holiday home for Bookabach/VRBO.com for 2024, previously a silver award winner in 2016. Harakeke was also featured by Stuff as one of the top 10 holiday homes for 2015 (Dec 15, New Zealand’s best holiday homes provide plenty of wow factor"). Relaxed, carefree indoor/outdoor living is a reality with a private sheltered patio straight off the living room. Harakeke has all the benefits of unobstructed beach front views, and is sunny and very sheltered. If you can drag yourself away from the view, Harakeke is within easy (5 min) walking distance of restaurants and cafes, a source of provisions and fine wines, golf course, tennis court and interesting parks and reserves. Harakeke has, in-core floor heating, gas water and cooking, and a wood burner for warmth and ambience for those colder winter nights. With mains pressure continuous flow water heating there is plenty of hot water, and apart from the standard inside showers (with Methvan SatinJet heads), and inside and outside baths, a hot outside shower is a touch of luxury for after swimming or at night... Special conditions: No parties please - you must ask us if you are intending having more folk around than stated on the booking from please. Dogs are OK, but only in the lounge/kitchen area please (ie. not in the bedrooms). No cats please! Normal check out is 10am, check in 2pm (unless by prior arrangement). Extras: Linen (included); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave;

This is a lovely, open bach. It was very pleasant to stay there and had all the amenities. Beautiful location overlooking the beach and Kapiti Island. It was really nice to stay there.

We zipped away to Harakeke to enjoy some quality family time and it did not disappoint. Even though the weather didn’t play nice it was lovely to be so close to the beach and the views were wonderful. The kids loved their own section to sleep in (as did we!) and we loved that there was no TV… meant more games of Uno in the evening! We took a dog gate to keep our dog from following us upstairs so I’d recommend something similar if you have a dog that follows you everywhere. Superb communication from Michelle and Peter and we’re so pleased we got to experience Harakeke.

We had a great time here, even in adverse weather for the first few days of our stay. The fireplace in the living room kept us warm. The kitchen is well appointed, and we enjoyed cooking dinner every day with the mesmerising views of Kapiti sunset. Love the design of the house, with the guest wing providing personal space for adult families.

Harakeke is simply a magical house in a magical location. The layout, especially the open kitchen/lounge/patio/fireplace enabled the 6 of us to stay connected. The fireplace kept us wonderfully warm. And the proximity to the beach meant lovely morning walks on the beach, followed by coffee at Long Beach. Would recommend in a heart beat!!!

This is a luxury batch that feels homely and lives up to all the expectations. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets, plenty of opportunities for beach walks, cosy fire, pristinely clean. We have been here before and would love to go back. Highly recommended!

The house and its location on Waikanae beach is nothing short of amazing. We are backed in Singapore and traveled back for family who we hadn't seen in 3 years due to Covid. After a whirlwind few weeks of meetings , family and friends etc it was great to just sit and relax and be ourselves in this exceptional house. I would recommend this property to anyone seeking peace, and serenity.

We’ve had the privilege of staying at Harakeke a few times now and we are very lucky – it’s a beautiful house in a beautiful location. Everything we needed, and more! Those sunsets and sunsets were incredible.

The house was nice and the views are stunning but the check in and check out requirements are ridiculous. The house wasn’t clean (especially the floors) and the neighbours dog was barking all night and ran through the property at one point. When we checked out we checked all windows and followed the rigid check out rules and accidentally missed one single window so we’re charged an extra fee despite already paying extortionate prices to stay at the property. The owner rang me the day after my wedding day to yell at me about an open window which was incredibly upsetting. Would not recommend and wouldn’t stay there again.
