Previous stay the rooms were amazing. This time we never got that far.
Receptionist and duty manager. The policy of wanting us to pay for breakfast “just in case we want something” we had no intention to eat as the food is poor.

not much room was adequate
over priced, staff were not helpful, no wi-fi in the bedrooms even though it advertises free wi-fi in all areas, when questioned the staff just said there is nothing we can do the wi-fi here has always been terrible.

The staff who had closed down the bar was happy to open it all up again close to bar closing time to sort us out some cocktails top bloke
Wasn’t a fan of the bacon at breakfast

room very clean with comfortable modern bedlinen, water pressure good in the bathroom, fridge in room so I could keep fresh fruit cool. Parking right by the entrance.
The smoking area was right under the windows so there was noise of people chatting & smell of smoke
no lift so had to carry my guitar and suitcases up flight of steep narrow curved stairs.

Family room set up was like an apartment: Double room, single room, sitting room and bathroom. Breakfast was great.
My husband and I went out for the evening - returned 00.30hrs - sign outside door advised to ring bell after 11pm to gain access - no-one came after ringing bell multiple times. I even rang the mobile phone cited on the notice - no-one picked up. I left 3 messages, after 10-15minutes of waiting in the cold, a person holding what looked like a tub of paint answered the door! This man apologised, so I assumed they were hotel staff and I told them them I had left 3 messages on the voicemail. We were in room 219 (a family room). The room was a bit on the cold side so I put on all the radiators before we went out, hoping to come back to a warm room. It was even colder on our return. I had to take the duvet off the single bed to add to the duvet on the double bed we slept in to keep warm. I spoke to receptionist the next morning and she said the heating was on timer - I told her there was no heating or a controller that I could find to switch on. The corridor leading to that section of the hotel was cold too. The other corridors leading to reception were warm, so all I can assume is they had switched off the heating to that section of the hotel. Hence the low score for staff, comfort and value for money.

Location is very good as is the onsite parking. All the staff were friendly and accommodating.
We were there for two nights and would recommend the Olive Grove bistro just down the road from the hotel for dinner.

The bed was comfy. The meal that I had in the hotel was excellent. I'd been in the room before so I had no complaints.
I can't think of anything I didn't like. I've been in the Lion Hotel before. It's in an ideal position for the town centre and bus station for days out.

Wasn't sure what to expect given the town but the hotel was brilliant. Really nice rooms, we had a party in their function room and the staff were great and we had a blast.
Only feedback would be that I'd prefer to pay on arrival. I thought the balance had been taken by booking.com but it hadn't and just as I was leaving I got a phonecall asking for payment, so I had to head back.

The bar and restaurant area was lovely, the room was clean, large as was the bathroom. Tv was a good size and like the fact there was a hair dryer, iron and ironing board, kettle with various teas and coffees.
The meal (dinner) was very good, and the breakfast price was very good. All you can eat continental for £5.99, and then individual priced menu items too.
Staff were very friendly and good service.
Didn't take away from the good experience of the stay, but the room (117)...was very bland, no pictures on the wall and a creaky old wardrobe..that said we weren't there to spend the entire time in our room. Wasn't keen on being on the ground floor, with a window overlooking the street- in as much just wasn't sure how secure it was. So we took our car keys and money with us when we went out.
As it was New Yr, sadly they shut the kitchen and bar early, meaning we had to go into town for a bar...which was
not successful.

We stayed in the suite and it was wonderful
Loved everything apart from being miss informed about new year's Eve . Was told the bar was closing at 9 . So we went to a different bar and then returned to our room early . But still had a lovely stay .

Great location. Clean and very functional.
Really over heated in all public areas. during an energy crisis and a mild December, every radiator was pumping out heat. We couldn’t sit in the bar as it was too hot

Shame the lounge area had gone
