About this house rental
A unique modern barn house in the small village Stokkseyri on the south-coast of Iceland. The house has great views to the ocean and the lava coastline. The house is fully equipped and tastefully decorated. An outdoor wood geothermal hot tub and quality beds will also help to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The house is only a 45 min drive from Reykjavik and well situated to explore many of the sights in the south. The two floor house (105 m2) was built in 2010. It has three bedrooms, bathroom w/ shower, living room w/balcony and an open kitchen. Availability for 4 guests. The kitchen is fully equipped and guests are welcome to use spices, oils, flour and other basics for cooking. The house exterior is clad with weathered Siberian larch and the interior walls with branch-less plywood. When building this house the aim was to have it environmentally friendly, e.g. by carefully selecting all materials used. The house has geothermal floor heating.

We spent a full week at the Barn House, using it as a base from which to see much of Iceland. It was fantastic. Easily accessible to Reykjavik, the Golden Circle and much of the South Coast. We even got lucky and saw the aurora borealis one night. The house is cozy, the hot tub amazing and the beds very comfortable. The kitchen is small but contains everything you need. Highly recommend.

My husband and I were thrilled with our stay at the Barn House. The decor was inviting and comfortable and the hot tub was the perfect way to end the day with a view of the night skies. The owner communicated effectively, ensuring we had everything we needed.

My husband & I just stayed with our teen twins at the barn house. Just perfect! From the view, to the comforts, to the friendly neighbor & backyard, we’d stay again. Being able to walk along the sea, and take a hot tub dip each night, was amazing. The little village was having a community festival, and its proximity to Selfoss and the southern coast plus golden circle was great. One night, we came back after hiking and made a great lamb dinner and enjoyed the peace. And thank you to the hosts for being so great with communicating. Since coming home, we’ve already have a ton of friends ask where we stayed. Til another time!

We enjoyed the vistas (and the hot tub) from this fully stocked beach house. Note that the creative nautical-style double-step staircase is treacherous for anyone with limited mobility and makes hauling suitcases upstairs a bit of a challenge. The European oven also features a dishwasher (!) but no microwave.It is a great location for exploring the south coast of Iceland.

Lovely property by the sea, beautiful vista. Just as described. Would not take young children or elderly due to steepness of internal staircase but perfect for our family. Lovely, peaceful and relaxing and the geothermal hot tub was fabulous.

, the amenities and the location. Comfortable modern design with a toasty oceanside hot tub. Easy drive north to sites or east to Vik. Definitely walk down to the lobster house for dinner, go hungry so you can finish the 3 course dinner.
Definitely won’t forget this part of our vacation!

Upon arrival at the Barn House, we were blown away by the uniqueness, the attention to detail, the interior design and the place overall. We loved the setup, enjoyed looking up at the stars while soaking in the hot tub, waking up to the views of the ocean and the heated floors were such a treat! Centrally located between Reykavik, The Golden Circle and the black sand beaches in Vik on the southern coast. It truly was a magical trip and Kristinn was really great and responsive when we thought we left a phone at the house after departing! Thank you Iceland for the beautiful memories that we will all carry with us for a lifetime! Would highly recommend staying at this one of a kind property!!

My family of four enjoyed our stay in Stokkseyri. The home is wonderfully inviting and located right on the coast of a lovely and quiet village. The beds were very comfortable and the house was relaxing and cozy. The hot tub was perfect to relax after long days of exploring the country. The town of Selfoss is only a 15 min drive away with a few grocery stores, nice restaurants, shopping, and a cool food hall. Overall a perfect stay for us.

This is a very charming rental--well known as the "barn house" and obviously owned by a highly qualified interior designer. It is picture perfect with warm lighting and feels so cozy at night. The house is stocked with everything needed for a stay, including the kitchen, laundry facilities, gorgeous bathroom, ideal hot tub setting with ocean views, binoculars (nice touch!) and robes/slippers (small but appreciated), along with ample towels. Owner provides useful information for the area, including a nice referral to two restaurants that we loved (Rauða Húsið and Fjöruborðið Restaurant). We would go back in a heartbeat!

While staying here, we took the ferry out to Vestmannaeyjar, and spent a day further east at Jokulsarlon and Skaftafell (a long drive, but fantastic scenery and an awesome hike).The home is as photographed - beautiful. We enjoyed looking out over the ocean, and loved the hot tub.Communication with the owners was excellent.I highly recommend this property, and hope to stay there again.Thank you!

Great place to stay if you are trying to see a lot in Iceland in just a few days. The stairs are difficult but we got used to them. Thank you for a wonderful time.

This was our second year staying in the barn house. Needless to say we like it there a lot! Beautiful design and decorated house. Amazing location right on water with spectacular views. Great restaurants close by in Selfoss.

Quiet waterfront retreat
Perfect location if you plan on doing both the Golden circle and the south coast drive to Vic. House was well appointed with a detailed instruction book in English for operating washing machine, dishwasher etc. would recommend! The only suggestions I have is for some kind of weights at bottom of shower curtain so it isn’t constantly sticking to you, an extra section of sofa and a drying rack for wet suits 😊�

Absolutely Beautiful Property!
We couldn’t have been any happier with the home. Beautifully decorated, charming town with one of the best rated restaurants in all of Iceland within walking distance. Centrally located to see all the amazing sites Iceland has to offer.
We ate at every restaurant owners recommended and loved every one of them. Thank you!

Beautiful cozy house for the perfect Iceland experience
We loved staying in this magical, cozy home right on the water with amazing views. The house is warm, clean, bright, fully stocked and had everything we needed for our family. Our 10 and 7 year old boys loved exploring here. In April the wind and rain were constant and this house (and the hot tub!) was our oasis after long days exploring rugged landscapes. We loved being in the town of Stokkseyri- it gave us a sense of living in a small town and it is the perfect location from which to explore the southeast coast. Everything you need is within a 15 minute drive in Selfoss. We had a great experience riding horses right up the road in Eyrarbakki at Bakkahestar. Kristinn and Rut were very accommodating with our specific needs. We could not have had a better experience in this special home.

A beautiful and unique house
We loved our stay here! The bedrooms were a good size, the beds were comfortable and we loved being able to sort our recyclables like we do at home. We enjoyed soaking in the hot pot, which was already set at a good temperature. We felt spoiled by the robes provided and lovely soaps and shampoos. Thank you to Kristinn and Rut!

Literally straight out of a magazine!
Home is so unique and modern and in a perfect little coastal town. We had our best meal of the entire trip right around the corner. And what a view!

Fantastic stay, worth it!!
We will never forget our stay at the Barn. It was a surprise for my husband's 40th birthday and it was so perfect for a trip involving daily hiking (the hot spring hot tub was dynamite!!). Thank you Kristinn! You have made such a beautiful spot for travellers to stay.

ALMOST PERFECT!
I met my 2 sons in Iceland and after a 2 night stay in Reykjavik, we then stayed at the Barn House and drove to the spectacular sites within a 2 hour drive of the house. We always looked forward to coming back to relax in the hot tub and take in all the stars and hoping to see the Northern Lights. I don't think the house would be suitable for older adults or families with young children, as the steps to the main floor are a little steep and difficult to maneuver. A microwave would have been convenient. But the other amenities and useful information given by Kristinn and Rut more than made up for it. Thank you again for sharing your unique and beautiful home. We are hoping to return again next year.

Isolated but comfortable
The home was well furnished and very comfortable but extremely isolated [ one hour from Reykjavik]. There wasn't even an open coffee house near by. We could not get the oven to work and the smoke alarms went off during our stay requiring us to remove each alarm battery. I would recommend this property if you really want to get away from it all!
