A dreadful experience! First, having paid half of the cost via bank transfer, the 'hotel' threatened to cancel because we hadn't paid. Eventually, after we had a local Portuguese relative get in touch (they had ignored three emails from myself, as well as emails and phone calls from Booking.com), they agreed to let us stay if we brought proof with us that we had paid! This was just the beginning. We had arranged to arrive between 4.00pm and 5.00pm, which the hotel had confirmed. When we got there, though, the place was deserted. Once again, our Portuguese relative managed to get the owner on the phone, who said it was inconvenient and to come back in three hours!!! This we had to do, spending three hours in a café around the corner. It then took 35 minutes to check in, with the young girl who had turned up having to go through the whole process on the phone with the owner - unbelievable. Once we got in the room, we found dirty floors, mattresses with the springs sticking through, and bathrooms (we had booked two rooms) with rather dodgy wiring. I could go on, but if you've ever seen Fawlty Towers you'll get the idea. The only thing missing was the view of Torquay. These people should not be allowed to operate a hotel.
