Mooie locatie, in potentie een mooi hotel maar helaas wordt dit niet benut.
Ter afsluiting van onze 3 weken in Sri Lanka gunden wij onszelf een luxe overnachting. Vanwege de goede reviews (lyrisch over het personeel, locatie, faciliteiten) boekten wij hier. Wij hebben dit echter niet mogen ervaren. Kregen het idee dat het “personeel” niet echt personeel was en er een paar willekeurige mensen waren neergezet wegens weinig boekingen. Er was van gastvrijheid niet te spreken. Er werd ons niets uitgelegd over de ruimtes, het ontbijt, wifi, zwembad (gebruik van handdoeken bijv.), etc. Ook was het personeel nergens te bekennen wanneer wij een vraag hadden en bij het uitchecken leek het alsof ze niet wisten wat ze aan het doen waren en communiceerden ze niet helder (we waren 10 minuten aan het wachten en hadden geen idee of ze voor ons bezig waren of met wat anders). Verder mag je van een hotel in deze prijsklasse een betere afwerking verwachten. Zo zat de wc-bril los en was de douche onmogelijk af te stellen en was het water kokend heet of ijs koud. Kortom, erg teleurstellend.

Very good breakfast and friendly hosts! We also had a nice dinner. The pool was very clean and they provided extra towels. Also beautiful surroundings and we liked the outdoor bathroom.
Our bungalow was very humid and even had moisture spots in the wall. We left the door open to have some fresh air in the room.

Amazing stay here! Beautifully decorated rooms, so spacious and so clean. The staff here are fantastic - Palitha was so attentive, friendly and polite and couldn’t do enough to help us. He helped us arrange laundry and a massage, as well as a packed breakfast for our early departure. He was amazing. The chef Esan is also brilliant - we ate here for breakfast and dinner every day during our stay. The food is all cooked fresh and so delicious. We would highly recommend ordering the Sri Lankan breakfast the night before - delicious!
The hotel has a lovely pool and sun loungers which we enjoyed each morning and a fabulous chill out area where we sat and watched the sunset at night.
The hotel sits about 15 mins walk away from the beach but we enjoyed the tranquility of the place and the chance to see local life away from the Main Street. We would highly recommend this place if you’re staying in Unawatuna.

I loved the location, I have stayed here twice before, pre covid. It is beautiful. The food served is also great, I had pancakes for breakfast, and the fruit platter, both delicious. I also had the dahl for dinner a few times, this was delicious.
The staff were lovely and very helpful.
I had an issue with my room, and asked to move straight away, but they weren't able to move me until my last evening. I explained that there was a monitor lizard living in the ceiling above my bathroom, there was a rotten area of wood and it's feet could often be seen hanging down. There was also quite a lot of leaf debris and other insect debris and gecko life in the bathroom. I got used to sharing my room with the wildlife in the end, but it wouldn't be for everybody, so I feel they need to make the repairs to this ceiling to make the bathroom a pleasant room to use.
When I was moved, the bedlinen wasn't clean, a pillow had obviously been used as it had greasy marks on it, at this point I couldn't be bothered to report it back to them. The coffee table in my room hadn't been cleaned and has drinks marks all over it. The bench seating cushions were old, not very clean and twisted and just needed washing and putting on properly. I straightened them up a bit myself! I think the hotel has obviously been hard hit by the economic situation in Sri Lanka, but these little things wouldn't cost much to fix, and would make a big difference. Overall the place is lovely, and I don't like to leave a bad review, but I feel the cleaner was getting a bit careless. All of the staff I met were lovely though.

The staff are very sweet! We got upgraded and the room and grounds are gorgeous! It’s away from the beach but I still recommend staying here, great place for relaxing and recharging. Food was also good!
When we went down to the pool there were no towels and it obviously hadn’t been cleaned from the night before, there were beer bottles and leaves in the pool. Didn’t bother us just a note to say!

If you are staying in unawatuna, you MUST stay here! The staff are so warm, super friendly and instantly make you feel at home. The hotel is located up a hill meaning you get a lovely jungle experience on your beach holiday.
It's perfectly located between the best beaches and it's also in between other towns like hikkaduwa and mirisaa if you want to do day trips out.
The vibe of the hotel is super chill filled with lush greenery, an amazing pool and unreal food. Make sure to book the sri lankan breakfast the night before as you don't want to miss out.
Me and my partner sat out on the balcony in the evenings to watch the sun set, the monkeys, and the rest of the wildlife sing!
Big thanks to the staff again - they really made our holiday better.

This is a cosy boutique hotel, with a cute set up. the staff were very good, the service was very nice. we stayed for new years eve. the rooms are clean and spacious
the restaurant and the food needs a lot of improvement, they charge almost as much as fancy restaurants in ahangama and Unawatuna yet the food was nothing close to the pictures or the taste.

Steepy uphill location might be a problem for some tourists. We were happy as it gave us extra physical exercise.

Lovely peaceful place to spend a few nights surrounded by nature away from the hustle and bustle of city life !!!
The staff specially Saranga and Buddhima are always smiling and ready to help at any given time.
Food is always available and freshly made. Breakfast was always good 👍
Please note this is on top of a hill so there is a steep slope although my husband and I loved to walk up and down the hill to go to angel beach which is 15 minutes away on foot.

I had such a lovely stay at Horizon Hill Top Villa for a few days. I got an upgrade of my booked room as I was the only guest at that time and it was a spacious, comfortable room with amazing views on the surrounding hills and jungle. The team made delicious breakfast each morning and organized everything I needed at any time. The staff was super fun and friendly. The pool and the Villa are a beautiful relaxing spot away from the touristy village center.

I can't even begin to describe the beauty of the place and the people that work there. We had our best food in all of Sri Lanka here, the room / general location / pool were spectacularly goegeous and every single person working at Horizon Hilltop Villa was more helpful and pleasant to be around than words can say. We started missing them the second we left the place. This may sound exaggerated but trust me that it isn't! We also saw monkeys, chipmunks and amazing birds from there.

Room looks cool when you first enter. The welcome juice we received upon arrival was the thing we liked the most about the hotel. Think that says enough.
Room was not cleaned, staff not very helpfull (except for the guy that helped us with our luggage), dinner portions were way to small, problems with the shower, dirty and old toilet seat. This was the only hotel we did not like in Sri Lanka, I would not recommend it.

This is the best hotel we have ever stayed at! Amazing staff, very friendly and always going above expectations. The food was the best we had in unawatuna - we recommend the jumbo prawns and sri lankan breakfast. Such good value for money. We stayed in the private room away from the main hotel and it was paradise, with an amazing view and privacy. The pool was magical, surrounded by wildlife in the hillside. The staff were so friendly and polite, helping is with everything possible. They even bought down food to us to enjoy by the pool! Thank you for such an amazing stay Horizon!

We had a delightful two nights in this hotel. We stayed in a triple room/little bungalow, with a huge garden just for ourselves and breathtaking views, especially the sunset. The mosquito net over the bed was a big bonus.
The children really enjoyed the swimming pool and breakfast. Staff were super friendly and always checking that we were okay.

There is a perfect place to enjoy beach time while being surrounded by breathtaking nature. The personnel was very helpful but not too intrusive. We also enjoyed all facilities, especially the swimming pool after sunset.

We really liked the Horizon Hill Top Villa, the room was very spacious and had all the amenities needed. Luckily this place also has backup generators to combat the daily powercuts that Sri Lanka has. The restaurant of the hotel has very reasonable prices and the food is also great, they also offer some specials every day. Breakfast was great, staff was very helpful and friendly. Hotel always helps arrange tuk-tuk if you want to get to the beach or anywhere. The pool was also nice, even though it's not an infinity pool it was still great and they really kept it clean - also extra toilet and shower near the pool area. I have nothing bad to say about the place, we really enjoyed our last 4 nights there.

I didn't like anything. From the moment I arrived to the moment I departed, there were problems and inconveniences.
The location is the worst. The beach is 40 minutes away by foot or 15 minutes by TukTuk (plus waiting for a driver to pick you up). It's very difficult to get an Uber/taxi because drivers refuse to travel to this far away location.
There was a party in a nearby hotel, with loud dance music till 2am. I saw a snake next to my bungalow.
The pillows smell of sweat. The AC is right above your head and it blows directly on you when you sleep. The food is average (toasts with butter and jam for breakfast) and overpriced. There are no restaurants to eat nearby, you need to take a TukTuk to go into town.

It felt very tucked away and perfect if you want to be away from the crowds of Unawatuna. The wildlife and nature surrounding Horizon Hilltop was just awesome. From birds to monkeys to lizards to squirrels. The room was comfortable and the views and peaceful setting were exactly what we were looking for. The staff were also so friendly and helpful. The Sri Lankan breakfast was also well worth remembering to arrange for the next morning. Super tasty and filling! Both the pool and the pond chillout areas were very comfortable and relaxing. And you're only about a 5min tuk tuk to town, if you want the beach and a more festive atmosphere.
The cold showers at night were a surprise but understandable. And if you don't like nature and creepy crawlies then this place might not be for you, but we loved it.
