Great experience - both the apartmernt and visitig Wernigerode and Quedlinburg

Setting opposite the Schloss was amazing! Lovely apartment in historic building with coffee bar and restaurant alomost next door. Big hill to walk up to get home but it kept us fit (although we did resort to taxi occasionally). Met at the station by the key holder, which was very kind of him.

Perhaps a microwave oven would have been useful if we were staying longer but not really a problem.

Ever fancied staying right next to a beautiful old castle that dates back to the 12th/13th century? This is your place of choice! "Zum Büchsenmacher" apartments are located on the hill and literally right next to Wernigerode Castle, a beautiful old castle at the entrance to the wonderful nature of the Harz. The apartments are self service and come with a small kitchen (everything you need is there), and an own bath room. The house itself is a half-timber house that looks very nice. The apartments themselves have been modernised, but parts of the half-timber structures can still be seen even in the apartments and especially in the restaurant that also has a beautiful sun terrace. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed during our stay, so we couldn't try the traditional German meals usually served there. The half-timber house actually belongs to the inner castle complex, and you have to drive through the first castle gate to get there (there are free parking spaces for guests, who are allowed to drive up to the castle and park there during their stay. It's simply a magic place to stay for some days. Before our trip we had to contact our hosts and ask for some minor changes, as well as arrange the time of arrival. The hosts were very friendly and helped us straight away with arranging check-in/hand over of the keys. Once arrived we were shown everything and we also received some restaurant, food delivery and cafe tips, since the restaurant "Zum Büchsenmacher" was closed during our stay. The apartment itself was modern, very clean and also comfy. We didn't miss a thing. Check out was also very convenient and we even could have stayed extra long on check out day, since it was still kinda off-season and we were the only guests on that weekend.

There was nothing to complain at all. One thing visitors might find strange is the visitor's tax that has to be paid in CASH(!) upon arrival. This sort of tax is quite common in cities and towns in popular tourist areas in Germany. It is not included in the apartment price, since it's directly forwarded to the city. I would advise you to ask in advance how much it is for you and your stay (currently € 2.80 per adult/day and € 1.40 per child (6-18)/day) , just to have the right amount of cash with you (there's not atm in walking distance, afaik).

Eine schöne und gemütliche Pension. Die Räumlichkeiten waren allesamt sehr sauber und es fehlte an nix. Die Lage direkt am Schloss war traumhaft. Die Besitzer waren super freundlich Wir kommen gerne wieder!!!
