Perfect for what we wanted!
2nd time at Ambar Beach and this (18D) was a nicer apartment - furniture was fresher. You need to book this knowing it's basic but has everything you need - 2 bedrooms (both with shutters to ensure a good night's sleep). 2 balconies so get sun all day; lovely views to the sea and pools from 1 (plus table and chairs), mountains and roads from the other. 2 bathrooms (1 ensuite). Lounge with sofa bed, dining table and chairs. Kitchen has all you need. Love the washing machine - means you can pack a bit lighter with a child! There are 2 adult pools and 1 child's pool. They were a bit too cold in May and they lose the sun around 3.30/4pm. 2 supermarkets in easy walking distance. Free on road parking near enough. Easy walk to the lovely beach, with the turquoise sea. The Arenal has enough bars, happy hours and restaurants but was quiet - definitely not somewhere for a lively holiday, but was perfect for us and our 2 year old. Apparently season starts June 1st, so will possibly be busier in July/August. For us it was easy with a near 2yr old to come and go and be able to feed her easily, make picnics and put her to bed and enjoy the balcony in the evening.
There'a small pack with a cloth, washing up scrubber and small bottle of washing up liquid, tea towels and 1 toilet roll. Do remember that there's nothing else and you will have to bring/buy it all there. For example, toilet roll, salt, pepper, cooking oil, soap etc. I do think providing additional basics like salt and pepper and hand soap would be good as I bet everyone ends up buying them and then they get thrown away. Also note there is no cleaning. There are brooms and mops (but again, not products to clean with, you need to buy them if you want them).
The only real negative was that the travel cot provided was really dirty and should definitely be replaced. It's an additional charge. I never really understand why we're always penalised for having a baby and needing a cot. When I book a holiday, companies can see how old they are so should know they need a cot. If they have travel cots available (which they do) I don't see why I should pay more just because I have a baby!
