Charming historic riverfront lodge
About this house rental
Located in Mobile, this lovely house for $604 per night is a great choice for your next vacation. The Dan de Lion Lodge is a charming, historic home, built in 1918, as a "speak easy" during Mobile's prohibition era. Later it was converted to a home and added on to for family fleeing Nazis during World War II. Newly renovated, it is perfect for family gatherings, retreats, grilling, boating, fishing and relaxing sunsets beginning March 2020. Nestled among 7 acres of Live Oaks and Palmettos on the banks of beautiful Dog River, this house is only 15 minutes from Downtown Mobile; a city famous for being the birthplace of Mardi Gras, delicious Gulf seafood and many antebellum homes in its 600 blocks of historic districts. World famous Bellingrath Gardens is 30 minutes to the south and the beautiful white sand beaches of Dauphin Island are 45 minutes away.

Second time we have stayed with our family over Christmas. Beautiful property, plenty of room to spread out, amazing sunsets! Such a cool old home with tons of character. Great location to visit the rest of our family. Marbury is super helpful for anything needed. Only thing I would change is queen beds instead of doubles.

Perfect for large families. Kids loved the river and dock. Fires every night. It feels like if your grandparents had an old place out in the woods. You feel right at home.

Wonderful house with beautiful views of Dog river from the dock.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Dandelion Lodge on Dog River. The 100+ year old home was large and sufficiently spacious to accommodate our family (6 bedrooms) and included all the modern amenities that make home away from home extra enjoyable. We were in Mobile for a family wedding, so our schedule was full. Wish we'd had more time to just hang out at the property and relax. We will definitely be back (property owner willing) in the future.

We enjoyed exploring the house to see all its varied decor. The house and land provided plenty of space for everyone to be together or have some private space when needed. It was the most stocked rental we've ever used. Loved sitting or swinging on the dock first thing in the a.m. with a hot cup of coffee... doesn't get any better!

The location is wonderful, the house is too. All wood and big windows it is very private. It was quiet, generally all you hear are birds and the splashing from fish jumping.

Unique house that sleeps many; great location for things to do around Mobile and Dauphin Island; plenty of room for kids to play and many things provides for them; good place for a larger group for almost many purposes—reunions, tourist sights; gulf swimming, or even golf outings

If you love a house with a great story and decades of history, then this is the place for you. Upon arrival, we immediately headed through the beautiful grounds to the dock for a glorious sunset. The house contains so many lovely antiques and eclectic artifacts that everyday we were noticing something new, not seen before. It was cozy, inviting and warm. Having morning coffee and breakfast on the porches was our favorite part, while listening to the beautiful sound of chirping birds of all kinds.
The hosts were a delight and were available to answer any questions that we had about Dandelion’s history.
We have all been traveling together for over thirty years, and this property will be one of our favorites and most memorable...on that, we all agreed. The character of this property, the gracious hosts, and the wonderful history was greatly appreciated!

Our extended family enjoyed our stay for a family wedding in Mobile. The house is quaint and comfortable. I wish we had had more time to enjoy the fire pit, water views and kayaks but we hope to return and take advantage of all the amenities.

Our family loved this home! The history of the house was fascinating and the ambiance, character and architectural features of a fine old home were thoroughly appreciated. The house felt like a home ... family owned antiques and furnishing, artifacts collected from all over the world, and lots of personal touches created a comfortable and charming atmosphere. The home is wonderful and the property is simply beautiful! We enjoyed kayaking, fishing, swimming, hanging out in the yard and using the dock. The house was very clean, well stocked and provided the necessary modern conveniences ... we had everything we needed. The multiple living room areas and two porches provided lots of space to mix and mingle. The host was great at responding to questions and providing information . Our family group of eleven would definitely recommend this rental and would come back again. We all loved our end of summer gathering Dan De Lion Lodge!
