Hostile owner, unacceptable hygiene, and a nightmare check-in — Avoid!

Great view

Check-In & Hostile Behavior: The owner provided zero check-in or parking instructions in advance. Arriving before 9:00 PM in total darkness with two small kids, we couldn't locate the "upstairs parking" up a steep gravel road. Out of frustration, I raised my voice—which I acknowledge was wrong—but this entire conflict would have been completely avoided had basic parking instructions been provided upfront. Instead of de-escalating, the owner hung up, ignored calls, and refused entry, disregarding his obligation to honor a paid reservation. He falsely claimed we arrived past 9:00 PM (disproved by call logs) and only gave us the lockbox code after I sent a written apology. Major Hygiene Issue — No Kids' Bedding: The peak of the nightmare was finding zero bedsheets on the kids' beds—they were left to sleep on old, fabric-pilled mattress protectors covered in stray hairs. When confronted, the host argued everything had been put out, then absurdly claimed that omitting kids' sheets is a "Polish standard" (despite the adult beds having proper sheets). He only stopped arguing when asked directly if he truly believed I made up missing sheets. Apartment Maintenance & Hospitality: The unit had a filthy fridge, cobweb in a living room, a leaking shower with fluctuating water temperature, a broken TV remote which I had to fix, and just one hand towel for four people on a week-long stay. While hosts are not strictly obligated to supply kitchen basics like salt or pepper, omitting inexpensive items that cost pennies, and requiring guests to drive to supermarket to buy them, demonstrates a complete lack of generosity and care for guests. Unreasonable Charges & Final Conduct: After the bedding argument, he offered to cancel the rest of our stay, and demanded we leave the next morning before the cancellation was even confirmed.
