Bring slippers and an eye mask

The location was superb. Just tucked away from the bustle but walking distance of everything. The conservatory was nice and bright.

Genuinely shocked at how poorly maintained the house was. Quite literally upon opening the door, the first sight is a gigantic crack on the left wall, which after reading previous reviews has been responded to already - the age of the house. Not sure how this affects the ability to get a few tins of paint around the house though. Ok fair enough. We go to take the suitcases upstairs and the carpets are awful, like a mucky student's house. It is more disappointing that the host had written in November 2025 "The carpets are already planned to be replaced and you have helped us prioritise this." when someone else had commented on this. By August 2026, no evidence of this having been made a priority. Using the bathroom felt like work. The taps on the sink turned the wrong way, the bath took forever to fill up and trying to actually use the tiny floor space to get changed, dried etc was really irritating. The outdoor area offered no appeal - a shed with old stuff in, nothing useable to sit on. In a previous review someone had also commented on the fact the bedroom curtains offer no "blackout" from the light but these thin, pale curtains are still the same. Bright light pouring in. No I didn't alert the hosts during my break. The issues are not quick fixes. I welcome how the hosts might fairly respond to me regarding the lack of value for money. I was not doing a "Four in a bed" TV show type check of the cleanliness but when I happened to put my hand on the top of the fridge to open it, thick layer of sticky dust. I can't recall how much the "cleaning" part of the bill was, but there was no way it was justifiable. The fan in the bedroom did not stand up and had to be leaned against a wall therefore being far from where you were in the bed. The location truly saves this property.

Great cosy cottage in a convenient location.

Super little home really close to the centre of York. Couldn’t beat location. Great communication, easy check in and had everything we needed. Beds really comfy and the bath was lovely.

Super little home really close to the centre of York. Couldn’t beat location. Great communication, easy check in and had everything we needed. Beds really comfy and the bath was lovely.
