Nice, very old 1930’s building with lots of charm in the Chula Vista area of San Diego. Small rooms but of course for the time it was built it makes sense. Probably could use some paint and general spruce up. The bed was very comfortable and there were large soft bath towels. Quiet peaceful sleep and walk to restaurants and coffee shops.

For a very old building, it had charm reminiscent of it's former days. Staff very friendly and helpful.

We were in town for three days, on a lengthy road trip from Missouri. Chose El Primero based on the reviews, great price and convenient location. Karen, the owner, was a delight. A good, kind-hearted person. We definitely felt welcome. We hope to stay here again on a future visit to the area!

Alll was great, have stayed there before. Convenient location, great free parking and close to the best restaurants in downtown Chula Vista.
Forgot to let you know bathroom sink in our room (Del Mar) is loose and might fall. White glue is loose.
Finally , for some reason my $49 credit with hotel.com was not honored. I called hotel.com and they said some hotels that are not prepaid don’t honor the One Key credit. Next time I will think about staying here for that reason. Thank you.

Don’t get fooled by the reviews this hotel sucks. Staff woman is horrible. They don’t change the sheets. Wouldn’t stay here again

Small, quiet room. Ants in the bathroom, broken window. Slept well here, parking all taken one night. Older building, no refrigerator or microwave or coffee maker. The best part of stay was that it was calm and quiet. Needs to update pillows

El Primero is a very charming hotel. Lots of character. Upon arrival we were greeted at the door by the daughter of the mother/daughter team who own the hotel, and she was very sweet and helpful.

The hotel is an old building that houses a photo museum of Chula Vista in the 1920s to current. The rooms are quiet at night, updated and clean and the bed was super comfortable. I loved staying here.

We love the staff - Katie and Charlie who were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in the heart of downtown with parking - very convenient. We were there for the Downtown Chula Vista celebration of El Dia de los Muertos and it was fun!

Karen is the nicest hostess! She gave great neighborhood recommendations and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. Even though we came in as strangers, we left as family. And I will totally stay there again!

Overall a very nice and very affordable hotel. Staff was very nice and helpful. The hotel room was a bit small but good enough for what you need in a hotel. Tea, coffee, and hot chocolate are provided every morning, parking was never an issue. The room was nice and the bed sheets did not look dirty and were comfy. The room we got was the normal queen (non deluxe) : inside was a mini fridge, AC, and a TV. Idk about the other bigger rooms but no microwave or anything else so you will have to ask to borrow the employee microwave if you have leftovers.
My 2 issues are the walls and beds - the bed frames definitely need to be replaced. Any movement and it squeaks and shakes a bit too much. Also you can hear your neighbors through the walls for the most part (like loud noises)
In short, I would definitely recommend this hotel if you don’t mind the squeaky beds. There is a lot to do around here and is close to downtown SD.
