We like their location for: Convenient, cleanliness and safe because it is next to city policy station. But the room is small like a bird cage, only 1 pillow for 2 people, and warning for the first time foreigners (non-Spanish speaking) in Madrid like us: You should be prepared to deal with non-English people :(. It took us 2 hrs for looking, waiting and dealing with the building and meet the registration guy. They post a phone number on the door and ask you to do online check in but my phone could not contact them and and internet network is slow like s.ht. Do not book this property if you visit Madrid on the 1st time and have no Spanish speaking experiences.

After reading the dismal reviews I was a little apprehensive. I can assure you that this place is a great little place to stay. Good location, quiet, refurbed, clean. Only downsides I can think of are no curtain in room so no alarm clock for me...nature's alarm clock made sure I was up and at em at 7am ☀️☀️, the shower bracket was a bit dodgy but managed to get a workable angle to get clean. The cleaner was super friendly and the check in process( although unconventional) was relatively straightforward if you follow the rules. To stay in the centre of Madrid for 30euros a night? With a private bathroom? It's a no brainer! Thanks for a great stay

Despite all the bad reviews, has been one of the best low-cost experience i've ever done in an hotel.
It's placed in a perfect position, the room was clean and well organized.

Contrary to the property description on hotels.com, there was no front desk or luggage storage. There were also no towels or toiletries provided, despite me chasing for them several times. The window blind was also not fixed so I could not open the window and had no fresh air or natural light during the stay. There was a lot of noise from refuse collection on the street outside, late at night and early in the morning. There was also noise from scaffolding construction work during the day. The lock was broken when I arrived and I had to wait two hours for it to be fixed. I asked for an email to send complaints to but got no reply.

The room was small but clean and near all of the major attractions. Customer service was terrible though and no one is physically present at the hostel. I wrote them about a month prior to my trip and again the week prior with some questions and never heard back. Most of the times that you call you won't get answered and the check in process was confusing and unprofessional. It was all done over the phone and the woman I spoke to was constantly bickering with someone else and ended up yelling at me for not doing something she hadn't even told me to do. They need you to send them a picture of your passport via whatsapp, which frankly felt a bit shady. If it hadn't been for the maintenance ladies who stepped out of their way to help me, I would have never checked in. Once inside, I realized the room's lock wasn't working and I tried to call their number but of course had no response. Several other guests during my stay had similar experiences. I stayed because it was already paid for but spent my entire stay praying I didn't have to talk to them again.

Avoid this place at all costs, the only good thing about it is the location!
We arrived at the hotel tired and wearisome after a 4 hour journey from Valencia and just wanted to get settled in. However, there was nobody at the property to welcome us and we had to phone the telephone number that was on the door to let the owner know we had arrived. After about 10 mins, the owner arrived with the keys and let us into our room but he spoke no english. Our first thoughts were that the room was very small for 2 people but that was just the beginning. After using the bathroom, we found that the toilet didnt flush properly and that the tv did not work and had 'no signal'. The room had a small balcony attached so we pulled up the shutter to get a better view and found that we couldnt get the shutter back down. We emailed the owner and asked if he could fix it but we got no reply after 4 days which meant we had no shutter/curtains to keep the sun from waking us up each morning. We hated being in this room so spent as much time sightseeing and being out and about as possible. The only good thing is the location - it is just a one minute walk from the gran via and callao metro station which was perfecf for us. However, next time we will definitely pay slightly extra for somewhere upmarket.

I really can not review this place low enough. Firstly, they did not speak any English, as advertised in their posting, which makes check in extremely complicated-as you have to gain access through a main door of a building, but if they never answer, you will not get access. They advertise to call during certain times, but still no answer, or you get "no English", and they hang up. The area is off the beaten track, and a little sketchy, there are too many people hanging around the entrance watching you, and if you do get access to the building, there are twice as many in the building standing around. I did not get access to the room that I paid for, due to them answering and hanging up on me. All in all, it is not a safe location, clean location, nor would I recommend this place to anyone. Please, pay a little extra and try to stay in something safer.

To begin with. My arrival at the Estrella was atrocious , NO one was waiting for me or sent me any information on how to get into the place. Then someone came in and gave me a room that looked like a closet with a broken closet where I could not accommodate my luggage. I could hear everything that happens everywhere. The share bathroom door was broken and coming apart with mold in the bottom. Next day, a guy came in and assisted me after all of my complaints and placed me in another room with the only difference that there was a sink for me to wash my hands. The only good thing about this place is the location. I have never seen a place like this in my life. I saw other people complaining about how this place is ran by individuals who have no scrupulous. I decided to report this to the dept. of health in Spain once I get situated. It is not what they show in the website.

I ended up booking a different hotel because my experience was AWFUL! My shower door had an enormous hole in it so the water was all over the floor. The reception told my food deliverer that I was not registered and therefore I never rec'd food I ordered and paid for until five hours later and an entire day of waiting. By then the food was cold, and hotel promised to refund me the money for that, but of course they never did. My key didn't work the first night for whatever reason so I couldn't stay at the hotel. I would NOT recommend nor will I return to this hotel again.

The girl who received us was very friendly and she gave us the room very fast, however, the man who cares the hostel during evenings is very rude and he was beating the doors all the time and when the phone rang he screamed and cursed very angry. (Yes, you can hear everything from your room). One day they forgot to give us towels and the man was annoyed because we asked for towels, other day they didn't put tissue paper in the toilet and again, the man was annoyed because I went to his room to ask for toilet paper. The toilet was clean and room as well, but when you go for vacation somewhere, the least you can expect is to be treated with cordiality which was not the case.

The place itself is alright, value for money but you might get a bit scared from the outside. Better to go up the stairs as lift is quite small- for two people only. Really close to Gran Via and Callao metro stations.

After I made the mistake of using my Discover credit card, my reservation was cancelled for having the charge denied as refused. When I showed up, I was essentially homeless. The lady in charge rearranged he room assignments, and I was able to stay for my for my full three days.

The place is very difficult to find, the sign is far from the enterance, and we were lucky that someone was leaving as we were coming in because the buzzer did not seem to work for us the first 2 times. It is a small appartment on a second floor which has been divided into 6 rooms, its very central and clean. Unfortunately our room AC did not work so we had to leave our window open, which is rather loud during the night an morning. We were expecting two twin beds, and were placed in a room with a double bed and two singles, proceeded by her explaining that we could only use the one narrow double bed between us and that we were not allowed to occupy the 2 single beds instead, which is very unideal for a mother and daughter. This was annoying and unsympathetic. All rooms have a microwave & small fridge, but there are no cups to boil the water nor plates & cutlery, you need to ask the hotel receptionist Anna for these. Try to get a room which has a widow, overlooking the street. Initially we booked for 3 nights but end up staying for 4 nights, but it was a hassel to arrange the extra night with the language barrier as anna wanted us to pay €5 more than the original €30 a night arrangement.

Consideing the price, I will recommand this hotel. Kind staff but they dont speak english at all. Very good location, easily foundable. Comfortable bed and good quality of bathroom.

The room is small but clean. The neighborhood is a bit rundown, but it is very close to the main road, Gran Via. The best part was a surprise breakfast left for us, complete with a mini fridge in the room. We would stay here again.

The room was small, uncomfortable, uncarpeted (just with a solid, plastic flooring, thus unpleasantly too hard & cold to walk on without shoes on...) & although it was agreed online to book it as it is, with a shared bathroom to be accessible by the corridor on the same floor, I had expected that the room itself would contain a kind of water sink with a running/tap water, but even the ordinary cups/glasses were not provided, despite the availability of the fridge, with no tables (apart from the small drawer-box & a chair). Also the walls were too thin, without sound isolation, thus a bit noisy inside out. The major benefit was the hotel location & perhaps I would have been better off had I booked a single room with self-contained shower/bathroom, if available(?)...

Room was small but clean. Double bed seemed small for two people. Walls are too thin - you can hear the person speaking in the room next to you, you can also hear their television, and you can hear all the commotion in the lobby area. Eugenia provided excellent service.

Very limited English, owner very abrupt when demanding payment, however housekeeper was lovely.

Avoid this hostel to save yourself from having stressful holidays. It's located in an area full of prostitutes and really dirty. The shower wasn't working and so was the A/C. I complained but the staff couldn't speak any English at all. I had to open the window but couldn't sleep at all because of the noise. It's near a plaza and you could hear everything from the outside. Also, the walls were so thin that you could hear everyone in the building. There was also an incident that one of the guests had to pay even though she said she had paid the hotel in advance. She just cried because no one could help her because of language barrier. AVOID THIS HOSTEL.

The hostal was very clean, staff attentive and helpful. Good Wi-Fi in the room. No breakfast. The only negative is somewhat small rooms and bathrooms.
