First the good: The valet and front desk staff at check-in were very nice. The hotel has a nice seating area in the lobby with spa water and coffee in the morning.
Good location.
Second the bad: I had a corner room #318 that happened to be an adjoining room, which would have been great for a family but, not great for any one other than that. I heard the entire conversation of the couple in the room next to me, there was no soundproofing. However, that was not the worst part of my stay, at 3:42 a.m. the TV screen came with a message from the hotel about remote check out or extending my stay, the type of thing you usually see at about 9 a.m. Since I was traveling solo this was really scary (I hadn't used the TV at all during my visit). At check-out I told the front desk staff and they waived the resort fee, which I think is around $35, really..thanks..I guess..
Expected more from a Kimpton.

Absolutely love this hotel! It is beautiful and has such a cool vibe. The staff are all kind and fun, very personable. The hotel itself has a personality. The lounge area is so pretty and well designed that we actually used it! We had fun drinks there and read books.- including our 9yo who loved reading and hanging out, too. The bar is fun, bartender excellent, and the drinks are different than your typical selections - but served both beautifully and delicious. The record players in the rooms set an unexpected tone... they were so fun and unique that we actually relaxed and enjoyed music in our room while getting ready for bed. In the morning the music inspired us while getting ready for our day. The beds were comfortable, with perfectly fluffy, cozy, bed coverings and pillows. I agree with others that a coffee pot would be wonderful and was missed, but we survived and had a warm cup back in that pretty lounge on our way out. The gym was great. The walk to other places to explore was easy. The extra bonus of this hotel being dog friendly was the cherry on top. We have an old girl who travels with us to keep her safe and cared for, and she sure love being there, too. Thanks for all the little details the hotel created in this space that add up to a great experience!

When are these hotels ever going to get rid of these ridiculous amenities fees?

Great location easy walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf, Ghirdelli Square and plenty of places to eat.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. They provide a free happy hour with beer & wine.
Everything was very clean, the beds were comfortable and this is a pet friendly hotel. We will come back.

The room was big. The service was excellent. But the lobby and the room decor are less than one would expect from a 4.5 star hotel

Outrageously high valet, had a blood stain on comforter. Room seemed like it had outdated bones. Couldn’t use credit from
Hotel towards cafe. 3/5 overall

The room was clean and updated. The bathroom was clean and new. The staff was friendly. There is free coffee in the morning downstairs and a happy hour in the afternoon. The hotel restaurant was also very nice and food was delicious. There is valet parking and a parking structure just a few yards away too. It was a very comfortable stay.

Air conditioner noise, very old like a Motel, high security deposit $350.-

I stayed for 2 nights and was woken up around 4am both nights by the repeated slamming of the metal trash bins that are outside the adjacent business or hotel buildings. Ask for a different room if it’s facing Jones and Beach streets.
Location is nice and 10-15 minutes walking distance to the Pier, Ghirardelli square, Trader Joes, and Lombard street.
Breakfast at the hotel wasn’t very good.

Nice staff. Free happy hour. Dog friendly. In a very touristy area but good walking paths along the Bay.

No coffee in the room, view of the bins. Only one restaurant and bar

The night front desk people, Edwin specially, were really accommodating and nice. The food at Abaca was exceptionally good both dinner and breakfast. The only thing I didn’t like was the morning front desk person who answered my call. I was asking for a late checkout but I was dismissed curtly. I asked if she can help us with it. Person said that she can’t do anything about it and that it was their policy. The lady who did our checkout was really nice though and even offered to store our bags. It was just the person who answered my call who was a little rude.

The moment we checked in the staff greeted us very pleasantly and handed us a bottle of red wine! The hotel was very clean and had happy hours each day and coffee available in the morning. It was very clean and the rooms were nice. It's in a very nice walking proximity to Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square, and other major tourist areas. They also have bikes available for taking a tour on the town! I would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone looking for a vacation in SF.

Hotel is ok, nothing crazy. The gym is really small and not well appointed.
Do not pay for parking, they ask for $70 day. You can park on the street for free at night or across the street for way cheaper. The valet pretended like he had no idea the parking rules, to scare people to pay the fee. Super bad way of treating clients!

The property is “ok”. Not great, not terrible. It’s on older property with really good photos online. We found the desk attendants to be “smug” as if they were at a ritz-Carlton. The parking is NOT ok. They charge and ADDITIONAL $70 per day, making it a bad value. Definitely will choose one of the other hotel options on our next trip. Was not horrible, but was far over priced in comparison to other hotels within walking distance.

While the staff was kind and helpful, it doesn’t make up for the outdated exterior aesthetics of the hotel. Floor plans are like labyrinths, I’ve only available on 1st and 4th floor was odd. No good views from a room, just the wall and windows of the other side of the hotel. Amenities fees were outrageous considering the amenities were limited and likely not going to be used. The gym is just a tiny treadmill room. No places for you to just exist outside of your room if you were waiting, working, or didn’t want to go out. Definitely no exterior places to sit unless you bought food from the restaurant/cafe. Lobby area was tiny, noisy, and always packed or had high traffic going through it. Overall, a budget hotel dressed up to look fancier than it is.

Great experience with my wife.

New software at the desk made check-in a difficult and lengthy process. Nothung specifically wrong with the staff's service...but it was not enjoyable. Also the King bed guest room was not available and zi was assigned a double queen room by the elevator on the 2nd floor. Just not the best. The staff was froendly and courteous - but theh overall experience was lackluster.

The property is nice. Staffs are friendly. No water, no coffee machine in the room. I had to ask for a coffee machine.

If you eliminate the element of the cost of a stay, it would rate 5 stars. The ONLY negatives were the cost and at the rate we paid (essential room) we got a view of the garbage area, but hey we were in the unit and awake very little. Service was stellar, bed was among the most comfortable in a long time. Very clean and the food from the adjoining James Beard winning restaurant was excellent. The location worked very well with easy quick access to the waterfront area.

I like how accommodating they were about our requests. Rooms were cleaned on a daily basis. They provided a coffee machine with nespresso pods upon request and then refilled them when we asked for it. Walkable to the wharf as well as Ghirardelli. The room was spacious. Really nice hotel as well. Will stay again.
