The hotel is very very tired. Carpet needed a really deep clean. Furniture chipped, rusty shower rail over bath, extremely poor lighting and lots of noise from Main Street.

Pleasant stay, room was clean, comfortable, spacious and quiet.

Very historic hotel with a gorgeous room with sitting area, 4 poster king bed, soaking tub, and right on High street for convenience to everything. We also loved the plush robes they provided. Bill’s restaurant downstairs has wonderful food. The club downstairs does have cabaret live shows so we were “serenaded” each night. They don’t play too late and it didn’t interrupt our sleep. I’d highly recommend staying here for a luxurious stay in Guildford. 5 stars.

Nice hotel, good location, but very tired. The bath didn't work - one tap just spun and the other didn't seem to be connected to anything. The shower handle was installed upside down so you couldn't see the hot/cold, then took forever to heat up before the fixed head sprayed in all directions.
Needs a refurb really.

Really nice stay, good size room, bathroom a little tired looking but had a decent pressure shower. Very clean room. Fab location.

Wonderfully comfy!

During my one-night stay, I found both the room and bathroom spacious, complemented by a comfortable mattress. However, I encountered an issue with the shower, which was not functioning. Due to time constraints, I was unable to report this problem as my checkout time was imminent.
Upon checking out, the reception staff offered their apologies for the inconvenience and suggested that the likely cause was a depleted battery in the digital shower control unit. The casual manner in which this was mentioned suggested that such issues were not uncommon. Given the room rate of £115 per night, I believe it would be reasonable to expect more diligent maintenance, particularly in ensuring the functionality of essential amenities such as the shower.

The Hotel staff were lovely and very helpful. ..... However the hotel is in desperate need of updating and long over due deep cleaning. The dust and dirt in the room was astonishing for a hotel that says it's 4*. it could be a little gem in the centre Guildford as it's steeped in history. Unfortunately apart from being built in 1527 - it appears some of the dust also dates back that far. The TV remote fell down the back of the bed and the vegetation and dirt under it was gross. Such a shame as it could be lovely.

neat old place. lots of history.

Reception were great and helpful. Shown to the room, all questions answered.
The shower bath was great however the shower couldn't produce hot enough water so had to bath. (Reported to reception in the morning as not a problem for one night)
Location in high street is great with overnight street parking free as long as you move car by 8:30 next morning.
Being in the centre of the old town the small alleys echo noise but after 11pm it was quiet.

We have stayed here before and never had a problem. The Angel has lots of corridors and stairs and can be a little complicated to find the room. We have always been shown to our room before but this time we were left to find our room on our own which wasn’t straightforward. We had no heating in our room apart from an electric radiator which had no benefit at all. We spoke to reception who said they would get someone to look at it. The selection of tea and coffee in the room was poor. Don’t think it had been replenished from previous guests. Overall enjoyed our stayed but a little disappointing from previous visits.

A charming and convenient hotel for a one night stay. It was a very cold night and there was a heater which did not have much effect in the large room. As it happens I prefer a cold bedroom and once in bed I slept well but the bathroom in the morning was icy.

Really enjoyed our night at this hotel, the suite was spacious and really warm, comfortable bed

Comfortable stay in characterful hotel. Only down side is lack of any parking or ability to arrange local parking, making it very awkward with even minimal luggage.Think this needs to be addressed and we would not stay again as couldn't prebook or ring book any of parking options local to Hotel.

Great slightly quirky but very charming hotel on the high street in the thick of things and yet a quiet oasis. Has a restaurant and a bar that while not owned by the hotel, are part of the building. If like me you've come by train, easy 10 min walk to the station (& pretty much everything else in central Guildford). Staff are friendly and helpful. I'd definitely stay here again.

Lovely hotel, very friendly and helpful staff. We were in room 202 it was gorgeous except it was above a restaurant and between a lobby and a cabaret bar. I would not recommend this room on a Friday or Saturday night, as it was too noise to sleep until after midnight and my 7am you could hear the restaurant in the yard below the window. Location is excellent, walking distance of everything. No carpark but we used Just park and booked a local driveway.

Lovely staff, great sized room and ensuit.

Nice enough hotel but very worn. Pipework in my room was incredibly noisy and my shower struggled to get hot. Great location if heading into Guildford town centre.

Lovely room, bit of overnight noise from outside but that cant be controlled. Very comfort and having Bills on site was a bonus. Fully recommend if visiting Guildford on a short stay

The central heating was not working and the room was feeezing cold despite that it was the suite room.

Great location in a historic and allegedly haunted hotel! Check in was quick, I stayed solo in the Samuel Pepys room on the second floor. Very large, comfy double room. The central heating was not working but 2 mini portable radiators were in the room which worked fine. The bathroom was large but absolutely freezing as the heating did not work. The shower took a good 5 minutes to heat up which wasn't great standing in cold water for 5 mins. Water bottles and tea and coffee facilities were appreciated. Definitely please sort out the heating and hot water - a must in these colder months. I can also confirm there were no ghostly sightings during my stay.

Our room was in need of a refurbishment. Very uninviting and shabby. The mattress was the worst we’ve ever slept on; it fell to the floor when we sat on it. Neither of us slept and we left after one night. We had booked 2 nights but couldn’t face another night.
The flow of water was very poor so a shower or bath was not attempted.
We were very disappointed as the hotel wasn’t cheap.

Absolutely stunning hotel steeped in history. We stayed in an executive suite and it was beautiful. We had a large bath and a shower. Oh and a four poster bed. The living room was big too.
Incredibly friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. We ate breakfast at the attached restaurant and it was delicious.
The hotel is located within walking distance of Guildford station and G Live.
We can't recommend this hotel high enough, it was wonderful.

The hotel has a AA 4-star sign outside. I suspect this is left over from the last century. The room was pleasant. However, the plumbing (in and out) requires a major overhaul and the heating/ventilation is very suspect. For the location its great, for the value for money it is poor.

The Reception Team were very welcoming and helpful. Nice touch to be able to leave cases in reception so we were able to explore! We were in Dr Johnson room. I would say "faded grandeur", lovely room, however a little tired. The bathroom toilet seat really does need attention!!

Really nice stay. Complimentary prosecco on arrival. Friendly service. We will come back. Stayed a few years ago and much improved.

Lovely, friendly reception greeting. Given a completely prosecco which was a lovely touch. We were in the Pitt Suite which was spacious, very quiet and comfortable. Good range of drink options in room. Will definitely return. Stayed a few years ago and this was a much improved experience. Location is excellent.

Met my expectations in terms of the age and conditions of the accommodation.
There was a power failure around 9.30pm and I am told it took 19 mins to get the lights on. During that time there was no communication from the staff leaving me in the dark guessing. When the lights came on the plugs in my room were dead.
I rang down to reception to report this and was told they would look into it. After the 3rd call I was told that they didn't know what the problem was and that it was only my room. It would be addressed in the morning.
I wear hearing aids that need charging overnight as well as my phone, ipad and apple watch. The reception staff offered to charge these in reception. Without a phone, I was concerned that I would not wake in time for a very important meeting and asked if I could have a wake up call at 6.30.
When I got a knock on the door at 7.00, I mentioned that I needed to dry my hair. 5 mins later was shown into a room which had power.
At check out I spoke about the inconvenience and asked about compensation. I was assured that the hotel would contact me that day.
I had to phone them the following day and eventually ask to speak to the manager. Stephen was wholly unsympathetic, full of excuses and aggressive. He offered a free night some time in the future which I am not able to use.
Expedia tried to request a refund (the equivalent of the offer) with no answer to calls or mail.
Poor management and inexperienced staff. Otherwise okay.

Who wouldnt like a 14th century coaching inn in the middle of beautiful Guildford, with the best bed in a hotel.

My husband, daughter and my mother stayed at the Angel Hotel twice over a week as a stopover before and after travelling to Kent for a family holiday. Our first stay was not great. We booked 2 deluxe double rooms but only got one for my daughter and mother whilst my husband and I apparently got upgraded to a “suite” at the front of the building. The room with four poster bed was dark, smelt of fags and the sofa and carpet looked dirty I didn’t want to touch anything. The bathroom was small, shower rubbish and we hardly slept due to the noise on the street. It was like people were clearing away bottles in our room until the early hours of the morning. Not a good experience! I complained but the hotel said they couldn’t move us as the hotel was fully booked despite the fact that we didn’t even book this suite and it certainly was not an upgrade compared to my mother and daughter’s newly refurbished room at the back of the hotel which was clean, spacious and quiet. I stressed that we did not want this room again when we returned and although they said they couldn’t guarantee it which was annoying when we returned fortunately they did give us better quieter rooms (a nicer suite at the back of the building). The hotel is very convenient for Guildford town centre being in the high street and a short walk to the train station so that is handy but if booking I would ensure that you secure a refurbed room at the back of the hotel.

Actual room itself was lovely however I did hear a lot of noise on the street in particular drunk people until around 4:30am. I was also bitten several times in the room.
