I stayed here on a solo trip for 4 nights. Everything was great. The facilities are clean and the rooms are big, the pool and beach are both great, and the food wasn’t out of this world amazing but I can’t complain about it (I didn’t eat at any of the restaurants though, just at the buffet). There are plenty of activities by the pool - ring toss, pool aerobics, etc. during the day and silent disco, music, dancing at night - if that’s your kind of thing. I was happy enough to hang out nearby the pool activities each night and read my book/enjoyed the atmosphere and drinks. As a solo traveler, this is not the best place if you’re into socializing and making friends, but it’s pleasant enough if you just want a few days of alone time. I got a cab into Puerto Plata on my third day - it was nice to walk about and see the umbrella street, etc. especially on a rainy day. I will say that the hotel reception told me not to call an Uber because apparently there is drama between Ubers and cab drivers (?) but I took an Uber back to the resort at less than a quarter of the cost of the taxi they called for me, and it was fine, so I wonder if the resort has some kind of deal with cab drivers. Other than that, I had a perfect stay!

The Gran Ventana is a beautiful property set back into tropical rainforest mountainscapes. The beach was decent, and the shoreline is sonewhat wavy. Definitely a lot of opportunities for surf if thats your thing. Swimming and snorkeling was decent as theres some coral right off the beach. The ocean is fairly choppy on the north coast so be prepared for that. The food was.....pretty bad pretty much across the board. My wife got TD which never happens to either of us. Never saw one cook use gloves, or wash their hands. The bartenders, however, do. And thats really what matters at an all inclusive anyways lol. The shows and activities were decent, nothing spectacular. But at this price point, id still recommend the Gran Ventana.

Everything is nice except the food is terrible probably worse than school cafeteria food. I have to go to Pizza Hut to get some food. That’s how bad it was.
