The Location of the apartment is fantastic - right opposite the beach and close to the town centre, bars and restaurants. It is also helpful having the small pool on-site as an alternative.
Please do not rent this property.
The property fronts on to the sea, and the salt air rusts the lock on the door. This caused it to seize up, and when I came home with two small children to put them to bed on our first evening, the key broke in the door. Whilst I was able to gain access to the property with the stub of the key, I could not then lock the door to secure the property. I had to jam a chair under the door handle overnight to prevent the property being accessible from outside.
I contacted the owner, who arranged for a locksmith to attend to replace the lock. The locksmith confirmed (i) the salt water in the air caused the problem, (ii) that this is a common issue so close to the sea, and (iii) that the lock wasn't the original, so this issue had clearly happened before at the property. He showed me the crusting of salt inside the lock.
The owner told me that the locksmith would require payment on site, which I duly did. I understood I would be reimbursed by the owner, given the issue was due to a fault with their property rather than any fault of mine. The owner has since refused both directly to me and via Booking.com to reimburse me. I view this as unfair and disreputable given that they know this cost was incurred due to a fault with their property.
On a separate note, I asked the owner beforehand about parking. They said there was limited parking at the accommodation, but that I could separately rent a parking space they owned 300m away. I agreed to this. The description was untrue, the parking space was on the other side of town - roughly 15-20 minutes walk away. I wouldn't have made a big deal about this on its own, but it shows a pattern with how they approached the door situation.
The property itself is basic, with a weird layout. It is not suitable for anyone elderly or unfit, as there are stairs to it and then three floors of stairs inside. Toilet and bathroom on different floors.
