The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is because the air conditioning did not work well at all. That aside, the staff went above and beyond to be helpful and give the kind of service that one would find in a 5 star hotel. Location is excellent for getting to their recommended restaurant, since the hotel's restaurant is closed. The restaurant they recommended was FABULOUS. If walking, be prepared to traverse some very steep climbs both before and after dinner.
We had a car so drove to Certosa di Padula, the main reason for our stay in Padula. The monastery is very close and walkable though again--be prepared for VERY steep areas coming and going.

This was a beautiful and historic hotel and the front desk staff was extremely helpful.
The room was very nice and so was breakfast!
