Has potential, it is brand-new but...
We stayed at the Modern 1BR Maisonette with Back Yard in Gzira for 4 nights. The apartment is new, spotlessly clean, and thoughtfully equipped with useful amenities like a coffee machine, iron, hairdryer, and even international plug adapters. The central location—close to the bus stop, shops, and cafés—made getting around easy, and it was surprisingly quiet at night. Check-in was straightforward via a smart lock system, which worked well. Do note: the apartment is a bit tricky to locate at night, so it's essential to use the Google Maps link they sent you (not booking.com's) and check the photo instructions so you can see which is the exact door.
Unfortunately, our overall experience was affected by comfort and communication issues. The apartment had a strong damp and mouldy smell upon arrival, which made breathing and sleeping uncomfortable. We had to spend hours airing the space, and the lack of a kitchen window made it even harder to ventilate properly. This dampness triggered our allergies and really impacted our stay. We asked for a dehumidifier and clean towels—requests which were acknowledged but never fulfilled.
While we understand the host's request to send negative feedback privately to avoid harming their rating, it’s difficult to do so when no genuine effort was made to resolve the problem. If basic support had been offered, we’d be happy to respect that request.
A note for the management team: Please consider airing out the apartment thoroughly before each new guest arrives, and having at least one dehumidifier available in the space would significantly improve comfort. Providing the guests with a set of keys for extra security and peace of mind (to lock the door at night manually) would also be appreciated—especially after neighbours confused our door and tried to enter during the night.
Lastly, we felt the pricing was not aligned with the overall value—especially for a ground-floor apartment in the low season, which we later saw listed for less during peak season.
In short, while the apartment has great potential due to its location and modern features, we would only consider recommending it if the ventilation, communication, and safety concerns are addressed.
