Just got back from a week at this lovely cottage. It is on a very busy main road so that's something to consider if you have a lively dog that might run out of the door or small children and you could hear constant traffic noise. It was just the two of us and our very well behaved dog on this occasion so this didn't particularly bother us but i think it's important to be aware of this. Same with the drive. It is very narrow and my husband didn't want to risk our Range Rover so we parked along by the village green opposite and managed to get a parking space all week. Shipton is a delightful viallage and surrounded by many others although we largely stayed at the cottage as we were there just to chill from our very hectic lives and it was too hot to take the dog far. The garden gets the sun all day which I love but something to bear in mind if you're not such a sun worshiper. Lots of lovely walks nearby which we couldn't make the most of because of how hot it was. We only used the hot tub once because the weather was so warm and the hot tub made you hotter but that would be perfect in cooler weather. The property was clean and well presented but, as with other comments, it is probaly overdue for a really deep clean as certain areas, especially the utility room and freezer in it really needed some attention. Same as the garden area, it could have done with some weedkiller and a really good sweep before we arrived and some areas need some attention which always happens as things weather and are used as they should be. The bed we slept in was comfortable and the property has all the facilities you need if you are self catering which we did a mixture of. Lots of adequate places to eat in walking distance but also a short drive. Particular shout out to The Farmers Dog which was amazing. We had one slight problem in that an alarm went off on our last night so i called the people it said to on the info and they did call back quickly but basically said it could only have happened if we'd touched it and we definitely didn't and you could see on the alarm panel that it said fault. I'd explained we were leaving the dog to go out to dinner and was quite rudely told that the rules were that you can't leave a dog alone at all. I have to admit I hadn't spotted that in the rules and there are a lot of rules! The local restaurants are all dog friendly but the temperature was just so high i wanted her to stay laying on the cool stone floors which is basically what she did all stay. A dog bed is provided and we bought hers anyway but again it was so hot during our stay that she used neither. I think we could have been spoken to better, we weren't asked how we were getting on or whether we were enjoying ourselves etc etc. I would recommend this property but based on the way we were spoken to and the fact that you can't leave a dog alone I wouldn't personally go back. I don't think it was the best value for money either. There were no sun beds in the garden (we took our own) and no sun shade other than the one provided on the dining table and i thought that was surprising as it is a reasonably large garden and in full sun. Overall though it was a very pleasant stay.

Beautiful cottage, well furnished, good layout to cater for 3 generations of a family. Good area for walks. Garden and hot tub lovely. In need of a good clean and de cluttering - hard to find anywhere to actually put a glass down or use the bedside table due to oversize lamps etc. Supposedly decorated for Christmas - 2 cheap plastic collapsible Xmas trees is hardly in keeping with the cottage, the lights didn’t even have working batteries. I’d specifically checked about Xmas decorations otherwise we would have brought our own, luckily Amazon to the rescue. If we’re paying a premium for the Xmas period I expect some effort towards Xmas decorations. The bedroom on its own was always freezing. The constant traffic outside the front bedrooms is noisy. Communication before arrival was very poor ( we are regularly property renters and I would say it’s the worst I’ve experienced), it was either wait until 3 weeks before arrival, don’t know or questions not answered, but very clear on what we couldn’t do. I think we left it cleaner and tidier than we found it having got the hoover working, cleaned and organised the kitchen cupboards and drawers and washed the floors.
