Located at the foot of the Mount Catria massif, Frontone—once known as “the Switzerland of the Marche” and “the Pearl of Catria”—is considered an ideal destination for vacations, both in summer and winter. In Canto XXI of the *Paradiso* of the *Divine Comedy*, in verse 108, Dante writes: “Between two ridges of Italy rise rocks, not far from your homeland, so much so that the thunder rolls much lower there, forming a ridge called Catria, beneath which lies a consecrated hermitage, usually set aside for solitary worship.” In the summer, you can enjoy a mild and healthy climate while exploring the numerous nature trails both in the valley and along the plateaus and beech forests of Mount Catria; in winter, the renovated aerial cableway will take you from Caprile at 500 meters above sea level to Cupa delle Cotaline at 1,400 meters above sea level, directly to the snow-covered ski slopes and to the restaurant and guest rooms at the Cotaline Mountain Hut. It won’t be hard to encounter or at least catch a glimpse of Mount Catria’s rich fauna, which includes species of great scientific interest: notably the golden eagle, which nests on these peaks, the peregrine falcon, the rock partridge, the Eurasian tree sparrow, the wallcreeper, and the alpine finch; as well as fallow deer, roe deer, and mouflon; in spring, the magical blooming of the mountain’s numerous plant species will amaze and enchant you: particularly striking are the blooms of Eugenia’s violet (Viola eugeniae), cowslip (Primula veris), gentians (Gentiana verna, Gentiana columnae), daffodil (Narcissus poeticus), various orchids, and alpine forget-me-not (Myosotis alpestris).
Points of interest in the area undoubtedly include Frontone Castle, a ducal fortress dating back to the year 1000, and the entire historic village below it, with its residential homes and various dining options.; A short distance from Frontone lies the Monastery of Fonte Avellana, mentioned by Dante—who stayed here—in the Divine Comedy (Canto XXI of Paradise), the Gola del Furlo Nature Reserve, the Frasassi Caves, and the cities of Urbino, Gubbio, and Sassoferrato; The beaches of Marotta and Senigallia (the “Velvet Beach”) are easily accessible.
La Mansarda Viti is 49 km from Misano Adriatico, 48 km from Gabicce Mare, and 36 km from Urbino; and also 53 km from the San Francesco d’Assisi Airport in Perugia and about 70 km from the Marche Airport in Ancona.
Enjoy your stay.
