We followed every rule but were falsely accused of smoking, which ruined the experience.
Location was fine. House was accommodating for our large group.
When we arrived, there was already a lingering odor in the home. It wasn’t overwhelming, but it wasn’t pleasant. We assumed it was residual food smell from a previous stay. We were in town with our children for a youth softball tournament, ordered pizza and garlic bread for dinner, and attributed any smell to normal turnover. Because we’ve stayed in dozens of rental homes traveling for ball, we didn’t feel the need to document a mild food odor at check-in. That was a mistake.
We followed every house rule exactly as written. Shoes were left at the door. Trash was taken out. Checkout procedures were completed precisely, and we left the property in good condition.
After checkout, we received messages stating there were “signs of smoking inside the home despite the non-smoking rule,” references to a marijuana/cigar odor in the basement, concern about unlocked windows, and a photo of a Swisher wrapper as implied evidence. The message also referenced their children’s allergies and disappointment that house rules were not followed.
Let me be clear: no one in our group smokes. Not cigarettes, not cigars, and certainly not marijuana. We were traveling with 9 to 12 year old children. The accusation was completely unfounded.
Only after we firmly denied it did the tone shift to “we are not alleging anyone smoked” and “if it wasn’t your group we apologize.” That does not erase the initial accusation.
There were also dirty washcloths left in a downstairs bathroom and in the washing machine upon arrival, which we chose not to complain about.
The home’s space and location worked for our weekend, but being accused of smoking after following every rule completely overshadowed the stay. If you book here, document everything at check-in. We will not return.
