It was the worst experience I ever had in my life staying in a furnished apartment, number 2804.
I very well know the Ellipse Executive apartments complex, having lodged there before. It's important to note that it is a 4-block complex with so many apartments of different sizes, well constructed and perfect finishing, that have been sold out to individuals and entities that respectively manage them. What I liked most was the location as the complex is very close to the service for which went, also very close to the Mall of Africa a big shopping centre, the neighbourhood is very clean, quiet and calm.
When I previously lodged in the complex, the apartments that I occupied belonged to an entity that manages them very well, impeccable cleanliness, in fact housekeeping was perfect, with daily cleaning, all-white bedsheets and towels regularly changed. I would like to emphasize that during those previous stays, I booked directly with the management entity and not through booking.com. This time, I booked with booking.com and was assigned this poorly managed apartment 2804 that turned out to be my worst experience in thirty years of traveling. Although the format of the apartment was similar to those of other apartments in the complex, its management was a huge issue for many reasons:
1. Access challenges: whereas in the other apartments I had lodged in previously I was assigned two access codes that worked for the entire duration of my stay, (two months and one month respectively), in apartment 2804, access codes were assigned seemingly by an AI agent remotely, four different codes each time and said to be valid from 00H to 23:59 each day, yet, most of them would not be accepted by the gates. I was even asked by the remote manager to say in advance for each day how many times I would go out and come in so that they provide me with access codes accordingly. Overall, I had to ask for codes before they would be sent, even the first code of the day whereas they could have been sent each day after midnight. I got blocked several times inside the metallic grill passage at the gate as a result of the failed codes.
2. Poor comfort: The apartment was provided with brown body towels and twisted dark-coloured bedsheets that I could not tell if they had been washed or not. Given there was no housekeeping service.
3. Kitchen utensils: Two tiny casseroles all rusty that could not be used.
4. Daily power outages in the apartment as the owner was doing daily top-ups in small amounts. I spent a full day without electricity in the apartment whereas the buildings had electricity supply
