Unacceptable, extremely dirty and clearly not cleaned
The only positive things I can mention are the convenient location, the spacious apartment and the fact that the owner replied quickly whenever I contacted him.
Apart from that, it was absolutely unacceptable!
The apartment may be spacious, conveniently located and well presented in the photos, but basic cleanliness and hygiene should never be optional!
The floors were covered with hair, dirt, food crumbs and muddy footprints. They had not been swept or mopped. The walls and doors were covered in stains and dirt and in one bathroom there were hairs stuck to the wall together with sticky residue.
The kitchen appliances were in such a dirty condition that we did not feel safe using them. The kettle and toaster were in terrible condition full of dirt, while the oven was covered inside with layers of burnt grease, crumbs and old food residue. There was dust everywhere and because the apartment has very high ceilings, there were cobwebs hanging from all the corners with spiders still in them. Tables, bedside surfaces, chairs and other areas had not been dusted.
The loft sleeping area was also full of dust, hair, dirt and the carpeted stairs were full of small stones not even been vacuumed.
The sheets, pillows and blankets did not have been changed or washed after previous guests. There were countless hairs on the bedding, some deeply embedded in the fabric and everything smelled strongly of sweat, body oils and prolonged use. We were so disgusted that the first two nights we covered the bed with the bathroom towels and our clothes just so we could sleep.
I contacted the owner and sent many photos/videos through WhatsApp. I deliberately gave him the opportunity to fix the situation before leaving a negative review, because I understood that perhaps the cleaning staff had fail. I was told that someone would come the following day to clean it. When we returned the next evening, absolutely nothing had changed. The owner then offered to send someone again the next day, but at that point I refused.
Thankfully, there was a washing machine, so I ended up spending part of my holiday washing the bedding myself. I was also travelling with my child, which made the hygiene issue even more concerning. I have travelled many times and I have honestly never stayed in accommodation in such an unhygienic condition!
